What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2013 Chrysler 200, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger’s side air bag unexpectedly deployed without the vehicle being in a crash. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the passenger’s seat became inoperable and could not be adjusted or properly positioned. The dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle would not be repaired due to a previous repair completed under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V282000 (Electrical System, Air Bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The airbag is malfunctioning with the warning sensor going on and off
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken for the annual inspection, and DTC: P0420 associated with the catalytic converter was retrieved. The contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who confirmed a failure with the catalytic converter. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine shuts off then restarts after you put it in park been doing it for over a year been to many mechanics but it never reads a code , head rest deployed on passenger side and will not stay when pushed back in
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
driver's seat headrest deployed while I was driving. I cannot put it back in place because some internal plastic parts have broken off. The passenger seatbelt sensor keeps going off as if the passenger has not buckled the seat belt. The sensor on that same seat keeps going off even if there's no one sitting on that seat.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle and closing the front driver's side door, the driver's side front seat headrest deployed inadvertently with the vehicle turned off. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there would be a charge for the headrest replacement. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The horn will honk sporadically and will not start at times then wipers will malfunction. Had tipm looked at was told it is normal for this to go out, bad design.

Car keeps stalling stops suddenly can crash or accident in freeway specially took it dealer several times cant find issue not safe to drive almost got hit in freeway when stall suddenly date when it happens almost every time i drive it or every other day have bought different oarts also n continues stalling
I was parked in a parking lot backing out of a space. I was too close to the right curb so I put the car in drive to go forward to straighten out the tires. The gas accelerated abruptly and would not stop when I pressed the brake. The car jumped the curb/sidewalk and plowed into the parked car in front of me. The gas continued to accelerate pushing the vehicle in front of me about 5 feet back. The car did not stop until I jammed it into park. My bumper was ripped off when backing up was caught in the grill of the vehicle it collided with. I had both feet on the brake pad trying to stop the car and it would not stop. A very frightening experience. I have read several posts on this acceleration problem and believe there should be a recall. Not a good experience to remember Chrysler by.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
without any warning the car stopped on a busy highway transmission fluid all over the place
Coming to a stop at a red light or stop sign card jerks starters then shuts down. Almost got in an accident two or three times because of this safety situation I am having with the drivetrain and the engine stall. This happens all the time from the time I purchased the vehicle.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
The horn will honk sporadically and will not start at times then wipers will malfunction. Had tipm looked at was told it is normal for this to go out, bad design.
Headrest popped out Radio goes blank or completely then comes back on Throttle body light comes on and stalks car after being replaced 2 times Gas cap light comes on after being replaced 4 times
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was difficult to turn, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the air bag warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the horn failed to function as intended. The contact later noticed that the driver's and passenger's headrest air bags had deployed unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,879.
As I was driving down a slight slope while braking to try to come to a stop, the car died / shut off. Within the few seconds that I was trying to slow to a stop, the brakes stopped working, various lights turned on the Dash (I can't remember which), and then the car shut off entirely. If there was a car or something in front of me, I would not have been able to stop because the brakes weren't working. This problem has been reported numerous times through various online forums/sites. There was no warning, message, or other symptom to indicate this would happen. This car also has stalling issues that has been complained of by other Chrysler 200 owners as well. Both stalling and shutting off poses a serious concern to all drivers.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.

Several times now while a heavy down pour is going on my wipers have either been choppy or completely stopped. This is an absolute problem and the motor has been tested as well as fuse. The next component would be the computer and I can not nor will I spend more money on this car. This is a safety issue I have seen in multiple chrysler 200 forums online.

Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHRYSLER 200 EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR GLS2 TIRES, SIZE: P225/501R18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT RECOGNIZED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE FLAT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEFF D'AMBROSIO CHRYSLER (1221 E. LANCASTER AVE, DOWNINGTOWN, PA 19335, 888-372-3597) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES WERE FLAT, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DISCLOSED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES. WHILE SERVICING THE VEHICLE, THE MECHANIC DAMAGED THE RADIATOR AND WOULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,066.
NOT LONG AFTER PURCHASING MY 2013 CHRYSLER 200 I NOTICED THAT EVERY FEW DAYS I HAD TO GET AIR IN MY TIRE. WHEN I HAD MY VERY FIRST SERVICE I MENTIONED TO THE SERVICE DEPT. THEY LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND PUT AIR IN THEM. THEN IT WAS THE SAME EVERY FEW DAYS PUT AIR IN TIRE. WELL ON NEXT SERVICE IT WAS THE SAME OLD THING NOTHING WRONG PUT AIR IN TIRES THIS JUST KEEPS GOING ON. WELL WHEN IT WAS TIME TO ROTATE TIRES THEN THE PROBLEM GOT A LITTLE WORSE. HAD TO GO FROM EVERY FEW DAYS TO EVERY OTHER DAYS AT NEXT SERVICE GOT THE SAME STATEMENT NOTHING WRONG. NOW ITS GOT TO THE POINT I HAVE TO PUT AIR EVERYDAY AND NOT JUST ONE TIRE BUT ALL OF THEM. I JUST NOW GOT TO 30,000 MILES ON MY CAR. ALSO THEY SAID AND TRIED TO TALK ME INTO GETTING NITROGEN PUT IN WHICH COST MONEY AND IF YOUR ON THE ROAD AND YOUR TIRE GOES LOW YOU CAN'T PUT AIR IN A NITROGEN TIRE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE TIRES KEEP LOOSING AIR BUT THIS IS DARN RIDICULOUS. ALSO LIKE ANOTHER PERSON REPORTED QUITE SOME TIME AGO MY BRAKES MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE WHEN BACKING UP. *TR
