What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Dodge 1500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
During unrelated work, a mechanic discovered the retaining ring for recall N08 (rear axle pinion nut) was not installed and the pinion nut was loose enough to turn by hand. He stated the recall had either been performed incorrectly or not at all, and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The recall shows “completed” in 2013, but the defect is still present. I contacted Stellantis Customer Care, submitted photos, and they confirmed in writing that if the defect still exists, the recall must be performed free of charge regardless of age, mileage, or ownership. I sent the photos of the missing ring, screenshots showing the recall marked completed, and Stellantis’ confirmation to the dealership before having the vehicle towed to verify coverage. The truck was towed to Time Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Portland. My initial contact was [XXX] at that location. However, all recall decisions and communication later came from [XXX] , who works at a different dealership. Over the next month, the dealership repeatedly stalled the recall, saying they were waiting on approval from the district manager and then from the recall department, but no action was ever taken. Despite having Stellantis’ written confirmation and clear photographic evidence of the unresolved defect, the dealership refused to perform the recall. They insisted on treating it as a “warranty” issue and cited reasons such as mileage, age, and not being the original owner—none of which apply to safety recalls. They then stated that teardown and diagnosis “would run $1000,” even though the defect has already been documented by both the mechanic and Stellantis. All communication, including photos, the mechanic’s findings, Stellantis’ confirmation of coverage, and the dealership’s refusal, is available upon request. The truck has now been sitting at the dealership for over a month with an unresolved safety defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2010 Dodge Ram 1500 truck purchased used late May 2025 with 57000 miles. Late August 2025 with 60000 miles rear axle fell off when driving on Freeway at 60 miles per hour. Very serious accident was narrowly avoided as could not steer vehicle.Truck was serviced at dealership for recall of a pinion nut coming loose at 36107 miles in September 2013. Per this recall, the loose pinion nut can cause the axle to fail. The recall maintenance done in September 2013 at 36107 miles only lasted 24000 miles and serious safety issues reoccurred. In my opinion, on my vehicle the recall did not fix the problem. Now I am stuck with a $5000 repair on a vehicle with known recalls and safety issues that was supposedly fixed.Perhaps a second recall should be considered regarding this issue.

From owner reports, verbatim
[XXX] My truck sway at 65mph, like a drunk person driving. Scary. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 shuts off without warning. The incident frequently happens when I am driving at city speeds. If I am turning, the vehicle shuts off, and the power steering also cuts off, causing problems turning the steering wheel. When I am driving straight, there are no warning lights on the dashboard, and the vehicle shuts down. This is very dangerous while going.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
took the vehicle to the dealer on 2/27/25 on invoice # chcs169951 and they have refused to fix the issue. i was given a proof of correction paper without doing any or the work and told that they are no responsible to fix the issue because it is an older vehicle. I have been trying to register the vehicle but am unable to because it will not pass the brake and light inspection. I was told that it would take 2-3 weeks to update the system and has now been close to 2 months and still no update.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 13V038000 (Power Train), 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), and 17V821000 (Power Train). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear axle pinion holding the rear drive shaft loosened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer declined to honor the recall repairs due to the age of the vehicle and possible liability issues. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
Me and my husband were driving down the road to go see a friend and all of a sudden the wheel hub assembly broke in half causing us to have to slam on our brakes and keep from crashing. The wheel almost ended up under our truck making the truck look like it was kachowing like Lightening McQueen from the movie Cars
i recieved a recall for the rear axle pinion nut, took truck in and was told my truck was not involved. then i recieved another recall for the same thing and took truck in and they installed a retainer on the nut and this was supposed to fix the problem. now at 85,000 miles the pinion came loose so the retainer was not the answer. took to dealer and they want me to pay then try to get my money back from chrysler. i think chrysler should fix it at there cost because they knew they had a bad product to start with. truck is well taken care of not beaten normal driving. there is no way a rear end should go out at 85,000 miles. sent a notice to chrysler complaint dept but no responce, gues they just dont care.hope you do
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
My husband was driving about 20mls per hrs when our truck cought fire the whole front of our truct cought fire. The front mirror and everything if distroit due to the fire .
The frame has rusted thru, the fuel tank strap has failed and the fuel tank has dropped. If this had happened while driving, it could have killed him and many others. Upon researching for information, we found recall U04/nhsta 18v-160 which stated this document replaced service bulletin TSB# 1400218 - all for this exact problem. This was a regional recall/extended warranty and was not issued for vehicles in our region. But this document does state that should any vehicle meet the criteria described (make date range, model year, and problem) that that vehicle should be covered. My fathers truck meets all 3 criteria. Upon calling FCA (Fiat, Chrysler Automobiles), who issued the document, we were told that we aren't able to be included in this issue, since we don't have a recall listed and also because the recall turned from a recall to an extended warranty that expired in 2022. If this is a known issue why is there an expiration date on the repair of it? My father's truck only has about 67,000 miles on it, which is probably why the problem is only presenting now. And if we had known there was a possible chance that this could happen, why weren't we informed to check it? He is the original owner of the vehicle and we are appalled at the FCA repsonse. The document in reference is attached.

THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2004 AND 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB CHILD RESTRAINT UPPER TETHER STRAPS. THE 2004 MODEL YEAR DOES HAVE THE INNER ANCHOR STRAP RING(S) INSTALLED FOR ATTACHING THE CHILD SEAT TETHER STRAP HOOK. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE 2004 UPPER TETHER STRAP IS 55350981-AB. THE 2010 MODEL UPPER TETHER STRAP IS 52029441-AA. IF YOU PUT THESE TWO PARTS SIDE BY SIDE THE MOUNTING OF THE BRACKETS APPEAR TO BE THE SAME AS FAR AS MOUNTING IS CONCERNED IN THE VEHICLE. THE BRACKET FOR THE 2004 MODEL APPEARS TO BE SHORTER IN LENGTH THAN THE 2010 MODEL BUT THE OVERALL LENGTH OF THE PARTS ARE ABOUT THE SAME. THE WEBBING MATERIAL ON THE 2010 MODEL IS MADE OF A HEAVIER QUALITY (COARSE THREAD) WEBBING MATERIAL AND THE 2004 MODEL HAS A WEBBING MATERIAL (FINE THREAD) SIMILAR TO STANDARD SEAT BELT MATERIAL. CHRYSLER / DODGE HAS NOT FOLLOWED THIS FEDERAL REGULATION FOR THE UPPER TETHER ANCHORAGE ON IT?S 2010 DODGE RAM QUAD CAB 1500 TRUCK. THE CURRENT TETHER STRAP IN THE 2010 MODEL VEHICLE COULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS A TETHER ANCHORAGE POINT. ALL CHILD SEATS WITH UPPER TETHER STRAPS HAVE A METAL HOOK FOR WHICH TO CLIP INTO A TETHER ANCHOR. THE METAL HOOK ON CHILD SEAT TETHERS BY DESIGN IS NOT MEANT TO BE CLIPPED ONTO A LOOP OF WEBBING ONLY. SOME TECHNICAL ADVISORS FROM CHRYSLER / DODGE HAVE INFORMED ME AND MY DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THAT THE CHILD SEAT TETHER HOOK IS TO BE CLIPPED ONTO THE UPPER TETHER LOOP OF WEBBING. HOWEVER, IF YOU UTILIZE THE 2010 MODEL UPPER TETHER LOOP AS CHILD SEAT TETHER ANCHOR THE WAY IN WHICH THIS ASSEMBLY IS MANUFACTURED WEAKENING OF THE WEBBING MATERIAL COULD OCCUR OVER TIME OR DURING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE WEBBING MATERIAL WOULD BEGIN TO BE CUT BY THE SHARP EDGES OF THE BRACKET SLOT THROUGH WHICH THE WEBBING MATERIAL GOES THROUGH. *TR
CHILD SEAT TETHER STRAP ANCHOR RINGS INSTALLED ON 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB. THE OWNER'S MANUAL CLEARLY STATES IN THE CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLATION SEQUENCE ON PAGE 75 PARAGRAPH 3 "PASS EACH TETHER STRAP HOOK UNDER THE HEAD RESTRAINT AND THROUGH THE LOOP OF WEBBING BEHIND THE CHILD SEAT" PARAGRAPH 4 STATES "ROUTE EACH TETHER STRAP TO THE ANCHOR BEHIND THE CENTER SEAT, AND ATTACH TO THE HOOK(S) TO THE METAL RING" ON PAGE 76 AS PICTURED ITEM 1 THE INNER ANCHOR STRAP RING(S) CLEARLY SHOWS THE REQUIRED ANCHOR RING FOR THE ATTACHMENT OF THE CHILD SEAT TETHER HOOK. THE REQUIRED 3 TETHER LOOP STRAPS ARE INSTALLED AS REQUIRED BUT DO NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED METAL ANCHOR RINGS ON EITHER STRAP IN ORDER TO ATTACH THE CHILD CAR SEAT TETHER HOOK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE WISHING TO PROPERLY INSTALL A CHILD CAR/BOOSTER SEAT WHICH HAS A TETHER STRAP FOR USE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PERKINS MOTORS (1205 MOTOR CITY DR., COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905, 855-832-3989) FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRE ROTATION COULD NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE TWO OF THE TIRES WERE OF DIFFERENT BRANDS; THEREFORE, THE TREAD DEPTHS WERE UNEVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THE TIRES HAD TO HAVE THE SAME TREAD DEPTH IN ORDER TO BE ROTATED. THE CONTACT ASKED FOR THE INFORMATION IN WRITING SINCE IT WAS NOT LISTED IN THE OWNER'S SERVICE MANUAL. THE TECHNICIAN REPLIED THAT IT WAS PROPRIETARY INFORMATION AND COULD NOT BE MADE PUBLIC. THE TIRES WERE NOT ROTATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,609.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS BENT AND THE PINION NUT AND BEARINGS WERE SHAVED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO COURTESY CHRYSLER/DODGE IN CONYERS GEORGIA WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE FRACTURED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC NOTIFIED THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V038000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle was jerking as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was informed that the oxygen sensors and transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, however, the contact attempted to replace the oxygen sensors himself. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the proper oxygen sensors were replaced; however, the contact stated that when he drove over 45 MPH, all warning lights would illuminate on the instrument panel and that an abnormal noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Additionally, during the repair the contact was informed that the rear differential had loose bolts and would also need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however the VIN was not available at the time of the call therefore a case could not be opened. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000.
DROVE VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WET, SLUSHY SNOW (ON PAVED ROADWAYS) FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. SNOW PACKED IN AROUND TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE CAUSING SHIFTER LINKAGE TO BE PHYSICALLY IMPEDED. COULD NOT PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. ENDED UP STUCK IN REVERSE WITH LEVER IN PARK, CAUSING A SITUATION WHERE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED OR MOVED. HAD TO GET UNDER VEHICLE TO PHYSICALLY REMOVE ALL SNOW FROM AROUND TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE BEFORE SHIFTER LINKAGE BECAME UNSTUCK. *TR

MECHANISIMS THAT HOLD ALL FOUR DOORS OPEN IN THE HALF AND FULL POSITION ON MY 2010 DODGE RAM CREW CAB TRUCK DO NOT HOLD DOOR SECURE ENOUGH TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL UNWANTED CLOSING OF DOOR WHICH IN TURN STRIKES PERSON WHILE ENTERING/EXITING VEHICLE. WHILE SERIOUS INJURY HAS NOT OCCURRED YET, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT DOES. I AM ESPECIALLY CONCERNED FOR HAND, FINGER, OR HEAD TYPE INJURIES WITH CHILDREN AND EVEN ADULTS NOT AWARE OF THIS CONDITION WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING MY VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH I AM VERY AWARE OF THIS SITUATION I COULD ALSO GET HIT BY A DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY. MY DEALER FEELS, AND I AGREE, PROBLEM DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE RESULT OF DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING OR IMPROPER INSTALLATION BUT RATHER IMPROPERLY DESIGNED PARTS. REPLACEMENT OF AFFECTED PARTS IN LIKE KIND WOULD ONLY RESULT IN SAME PROBLEM. RE-DESIGNED PARTS SUCH AS STRONGER COMPRESSION SPRING AND/OR INCREASED DEPTH OF SCALLOPS IN HOLDING BARS ARE NECESSARY TO MORE FIRMLY HOLD DOORS ON THEIR DETENT UNTIL OCCUPANT DESIRES TO CLOSE DOOR WITH HIS OR HER HAND. *TR
