1993 Dodge Intrepid Tires & wheels Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the tire or wheel system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Tires & wheels reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 DODGE INTREPID. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH DORAL FDL60 TIRES, TIRE SIZE 225/60/16. THE DOT NUMBER WAS 7TA6 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND AN AUTO SHOP, WHO BOTH STATED THAT THE FOUR TIRES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE TREAD BELT SEPARATION AND UNEVEN WEAR. IN ADDITION, THE TIRES WERE OUT OF ROUND. PREVIOUSLY, FRONT SUSPENSION REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE; UNCERTAIN OF THE SPECIFIC REPAIRS WHICH ALSO INCLUDED A TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCING ON THE FOUR TIRES. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE FRONT TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES AND THE VEHICLE'S ROAD PERFORMANCE IMPROVED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO REPLACE THE TWO REAR TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,370.

WHILE WASHING MY VEHICLE, WAS SCRUBBING TIRES WHEN I NOTICED A BULGE/BLISTER ON MY LEFT REAR TIRE, ON THE SIDEWALL. IT WAS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF TPC, AND THEN THE TIRE SIZE. I NOTIFIED GOODYEAR OF THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO LOCATE THE NEAREST GOODYEAR RETAILER THAT DOES ADJUSTMENTS. THIS TIRE HAD APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES ON IT, AND WAS 2 YRS. OLD. THIS TIRE REPLACED ANOTHER ONE OF THE SAME MAKE, THAT ALSO DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM, SAME AREA. HAD I HAVE KNOWN.....! THIS TIRE CAME AS OEM WHEN THE CAR WAS BOUGHT IN '93, AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIRE I'VE RUN ON THE CAR....BUT NOW? GOODYEAR PRORATED THE TIRE, OUT THE DOOR AT $94.00. I WAS SHOWN WHERE THE BELTS ON THE SIDEWALL HAD SEPARATED, WITH THE TIRE BEING SENT TO NPSC. TIRE SIZE IS P225/60/R16. *JB

TIRE IS ABOUT 1 YEAR OLD, ON THE WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING THE TIRE BLEW OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAD NOT HIT A BUMP NOR WAS I AWARE OF RUNNING OVER ANY SHARP OBJECTS. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND THE TIRE HAS 5 DIFFERENT HOLES IN IT-ALL ALONG THE SIDE WALL, THREE HOLES IN THE FRONT AND TWO HOLES IN THE BACK. THE TIRE STILL HAS PLENTY OF THREAD ON IT AND HAD NO PLUGS. WITH REGARD TO THE REAR WINDOW, THE TRIM IS PUSHED BACK AND THE CORNER END OF THE WINDOW IS EXPOSED. AS IF YOU ARE TRYING TO OPEN THE WINDOW-YOU CAN SEE THE TOP EDGE OF THE WINDOW. I AM NOT SURE OF HOW TO RESOLVE-I AM AFRAID TO SIMPLY PUT SEALANT IN CRACK-AFRAID WINDOW MAY FALL INTO CAR OR OUT OF FRAME INTO PEOPLE BEHIND. WINDOW WAS NEVER HIT, APPEARS THAT SEAL IS WORN OR WINDOW IS FALLING.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 9225/60R16 )
