Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

THIS IS A NECESSITY THAT DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL AND REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THEIR LOSES! I PERSONALLY SENT A LETTER TO THE DODGE CORPORATION TELLING THEM OF THIS DANGEROUS PRODUCT! THEIR ANSWER! SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS! THE DASH BOARDS OF THE LATE MODEL 90'S AND EARLY 2000 TRUCKS MADE BY DODGE WERE BUILT WITH CHEAPLY MADE MATERIAL. YOU COULD ARMORAL OR WHATEVER CLEANER AND PRESERVER YOU WANT AND THE DASH WOULD STILL FALL APART. THE MATERIAL FROM THE DASH AND DUCTS WILL FALL ON THE HEATER ELEMENT AND CATCH THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ON FIRE THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE BURNS VERY QUICKLY POSING A SERIOUS DANGER AND TO THE PASSENGERS, OTHER VEHICLES, PEOPLE AROUND IT ONCE IT CATCHES FIRE AND SPREADS BRAKE LINES BURN INTO AND CAUSES IT TO ROLL, MINE ROLLED WITHIN INCHES OF A BRAND NEW BMW. I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS A URGENT RECALL TO SAVE LIVES. BEING A MECHANIC MYSELF THIS VEHICLE WAS POORLY MADE AND I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2000 THE TRUCK LOOKED BRAND NEW THE DAY IT BURNED AND WAS A TOTAL LOSS! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIMES AND EFFORTS! I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TRUCK BURNING AND THE WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE WHEN DONE! I WAS DISGUSTED! *TR UPDATED 3/3/15 *JS

CUT MY SELF REMOVING PIECES THE GOV SHOULD MAKE DODGE REPLACE THESE DASHES AT NO COST TO US. I HAVE A BAD HEATER CORE AND NO ONE WILL CHANGE IT BECAUSE OF THE DASH NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND ITS SO BROKEN THEY CAN'T REMOVE IT WITHOUT REPLACING IT. AT A COST OF A $1000.00 PLUS THE COST OF THE HEATER CORE R&R . I HAD TO GET A COVER FOR MY DASH SO I COULD REATTACHED THE VIN CODE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I FIGURE I WILL HIT A BUMP ONE DAY AND THE WHOLE THING WILL FALL!!! *TR

DEFECTS IN MANUFACTURER DASHBOARD CREATION PROCESS MAY LEAD DASHBOARD TO FAIL BY WAY OF CRACKING AND EROSION. THIS FAILURE OF THE 97-02 DODGE RAM DOES NOT ALLOW FOR SUFFICIENT IMPACT RESISTANCE IN A FRONTAL ACCIDENT AND MAY CAUSE FAILURES OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM DUE TO PIECES OF THE BROKEN DASH INTERFERING WITH SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS HOUSED WITHIN THE DASHBOARD. THIS MAY ALSO CAUSE THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM TO FAIL TO DEPLOY DUE TO DASHBOARD SUPPORT BEING ERODED AWAY. CRACKING AND BREAKAGE OF DASHBOARD MAY ALSO CAUSE ELECTRICAL FIRES AND FAILURES IF SHARP DASHBOARD PIECES DISLODGE AND FALL INTO THE WIRING HARNESS, CUTTING WIRES AND SHORTING THEM OUT. EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE: NONE - SEEMS TO OCCUR ON THE GREATER MAJORITY OF ALL 97-02 DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCKS, EITHER GARAGED OR NOT AND DASHBOARDS COVERED OR NOT. FAILURE CORRECTION: NONE AS REPLACEMENT DASHBOARDS INCUR THE SAME FAILURE. *TR
