2012 E-One Typhoon

Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

86 units potentially affected
The defect: E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2012-2015 E-One Cyclone II, Cyclone III and Typhoon emergency vehicles. High current load in the HVAC system can cause one of the relays to melt.
The risk: A melting relay can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: E-One will notify owners, and dealers will install a new relay assembly, free of charge. The recall began January 10, 2019. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612.

The defect: E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2008-2015 E-One Typhoon, Cyclone II, and Quest II vehicles, equipped with Timoney Independent Front Suspensions. Inconsistent machining may result in fatigue cracks developing over time in the front axle spindles, causing failure of the spindle and the possible separation of a front wheel from the vehicle.
The risk: A wheel separation from the vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: E-One will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front axle spindle, free of charge. The recall began on April 24, 2018. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

During a routine truck delivery inspection a malfunction of the air flow restriction indicator light was detected. Our investigation determined that the malfunction was introduced in 2007 with the launch of the new ISSPRO gauge cluster. The new dash gauge cluster changed the requirement for air flow sensor signal from active high to active low. This malfunction went unnoticed until now due to our published air filter routine maintenance requirements and the air filter?s longevity. Revised units affected by year.

EQUIPMENT

E-ONE VEHICLES ARE DESIGNED WITH ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT PROTECTION (E.G. FUSES), TO PROVIDE OVERCURRENT PROTECTION DURING SHORT-CIRCUIT CONDITIONS OR MALFUNCTION OF COMPONENTS. FUSES ARE SOMETIMES SHARED AMONGST DIFFERENT CIRCUITS. FOR EXAMPLE, THE CIRCUITS FOR THE PUMP PRIMER MOTOR AND CHASSIS POWER SHARE A COMMON 300AMP FUSE. IF EITHER OF THESE CIRCUITS EXPERIENCES AN ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD, THE FUSE WILL ACT AS DESIGNED TO PROTECT THE USERS AND THE VEHICLE FROM FURTHER DAMAGE. AS SUCH, AN OVERCURRENT CONDITION IN THE PUMP PRIMER CIRCUIT WILL ALSO DISCONNECT MAIN POWER FROM THE CAB AND CHASSIS AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
