2016 E-One Typhoon

Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY

Oct 14, 2019
1,603 units potentially affected
The defect: E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Typhoon and Cyclone 2, 2013-2014 Cyclone 3, 2014-2019 Quest 2 and 2017 CHSH emergency vehicles equipped with a Cummins ISL, L9, ISX12, X12, ISX15, or X15 engine. The engines do not have a diode in the starter solenoid circuit to improve the longevity of the lock-out relay, resulting in accumulated damage over time.
The risk: The damaged starter lock-out relay may prevent the vehicle from starting, hindering personnel from responding to emergencies, increasing the risk of an injury.
The remedy: E-One will notify owners, and dealers will install a diode in the starter solenoid circuit and install a new starter lock-out relay, free of charge. The recall began November 15, 2019. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612. Note: Vehicles previously repaired under recall 18V-019 also need this recall remedy.

The defect: E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Cyclone II, 2013-2014 and 2016-2019 Typhoon, 2015-2017 Quest fire trucks. The front shocks may separate from their upper mount on the front suspension. The loose shock may contact and damage the steering gear housing, possibly causing a steering fluid leak and a loss of power steering assist.
The risk: A loss of hydraulic steering assist can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: E-One has notified owners, and dealers will install a new shock mount bolt and nut, hardened washer, and shims to keep the shocks secured, free of charge. The recall began August 28, 2019. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

SUSPENSION

E-ONE has been contacted by Reyco Granning concerning the Independent Front Suspension (IFS) on your vehicle. Some IFS-FT units may have shock absorbers that experience excessive loading during road events that cause full extension of the shock absorber. This can result in damage to and possible failure of the shock absorber.

E-ONE has identified that a large number of DEF tank senders that have been returned for evaluation have been diagnosed as no fault found from the manufacturer. In an effort to minimize this in the future, we are sending this bulletin along with troubleshooting steps for your technicians to use when you receive customer complaints related to DEF tank gauge level issues.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

During a routine truck delivery inspection a malfunction of the air flow restriction indicator light was detected. Our investigation determined that the malfunction was introduced in 2007 with the launch of the new ISSPRO gauge cluster. The new dash gauge cluster changed the requirement for air flow sensor signal from active high to active low. This malfunction went unnoticed until now due to our published air filter routine maintenance requirements and the air filter?s longevity. Revised units affected by year.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
