Wiring harness passing thru trailer frame to supply 110v and 12v power to slide components (driver side) was not properly protected from vibration and subsequent vibrations damaged the wiring insulation and grounded the wires to the frame of the trailer. Multiple 12v fuses were "blown" and in a span of less than 60 seconds, the trailer filled with enough smoke to prevent safe exit through the door. The wires in the harness affected melted from the outside of the slide up to the breaker panel, melting through the insulting pad on the bottom of the trailer. The wires passed over the propane supply line to the stove and melted through the propane supply line. The method the manufacturer used to "protect" the wiring does not appear to meet standards established by NFPA 70 Article 551 covering "vibration proof" installation.

The contact owns a 2024 Forest River East to West Alta Trailer. The contact stated that while inspecting the trailer, it was discovered that the two rear tires on the driver’s and passenger’s side of the trailer were worn from the inner section of the tire. The trailer was taken to the local dealer, and it was determined that the rear axle was crooked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 5,000.
