I was on my way home from work approaching a red light coasting to a stop, I tried to slow down then I realized the car was accelerating and I pushed the brakes and pulled into a parking lot by the time I got in the parking lot the car was surging, really trying to takeoff. It went all the way to 5,000 rpm’s while I was in park.

Subject: Request for Investigation – Instrument Cluster Failure in Ford EcoSport (Similar to Recall 24V140) Vehicle Information: 2020 Ford EcoSport Statement: I am writing to report a safety-related defect regarding the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) in my Ford EcoSport. I am currently receiving persistent warnings that the "Instrument Cluster Lamps are malfunctioning" and require service. This issue renders critical safety information, such as gauges and warning telltales, potentially unreadable or unreliable. Upon taking my vehicle to a certified mechanic, I was advised that the symptoms match Recall 24V140 (Ford Reference 24C01), which addresses an IPC software corruption issue. However, when I contacted Downtown Ford to schedule the repair, I was informed that while they would cover my other open recall (23S64 - Oil Pump Tensioner), they refused to cover the IPC issue because the current recall is only assigned to the Ford Maverick. I am being asked to pay for both the diagnosis and the repair for a defect that Ford has already acknowledged as a safety risk in other models using similar cluster software. I believe this defect extends to the EcoSport line and poses a significant safety risk by failing to display critical vehicle information. I request that the NHTSA investigate whether the scope of Recall 24V140 should be expanded to include the Ford EcoSport.

My leased 2020 Ford EcoSport is at Merchant Ford of Selma, AL for three safety recalls: airbag system, engine oil pump failure, and rearview camera failure. The dealership told me they do not know how to fix the recalls, installed wrong parts, and the vehicle has been sitting for weeks without repair and without a loaner vehicle. They have stopped returning my calls. Ford has had years to remedy these recalls and cannot make the vehicle safe to drive.

My husband and I were driving down the interstate out of town and the oil pressure light came on as we were exiting. We were close to our destination and decided to check the oil when we stopped. Within seconds I could not accelerate beyond 40 MPH with RPMs climbing up to to 5-6. We checked the oil stick which was fine. Tried to drive to the ford dealership which was less than 3 miles away. After getting less than a third of a mile from where we were the dash lit up and went completely dark and wouldn’t start up.

The GPS, Radio, backup camera malfunctions. When the backup camera turns on while I’m driving it’s very distracting. I have videos of the malfunction while it is happening. A few different things happen. I’ve heard of this happening in other eco sports. I do not have the money to have the dealership repair something that isn’t a recall unfortunately. I don’t think there were prior warnings. Recently while driving it popped up on the screen phone volume but there are no phones connected. Sometimes the screen works fine other times it’s black. There are times when it’s blue. Times the backup camera turns on when my foot is on the brakes. The radio stations won’t change when it acts up. No GPS. The phones don’t sync to it anymore. It isn’t synced with the app anymore so I can’t remote control start it and can’t find it on my app if someone else is using it. Since the time changed it is an hr behind. If I change it to the right time it goes back everytime the car is shut off.

A couple year ago I got a random pop up saying low oil pressure I pulled over immediately and started hearing a noise. I called around and got told I should tow the car to a mechanic. Then, I was told I had to get a new engine, and that was not cheap. I have also had the problem where every time I get into the car the screen turns off and says “turning off to save battery” sometimes the screen turns back on and sometimes it stays off not allowing me to see navigation. Plus when this happens it sometimes turns my whole dash and air conditioning off, and I am unable to use the reverse camera. Now there was a recent recall on my vehicle for the low oil pressure warning. But I have also had multiple problems with the auto start stop function where I have to manually turn it off every time I get into the car, the reasoning is because multiple times on the road the car would not start and I would have to put the car in park and restart the car but on hills it really has a problem starting.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated that upon cleaning the vehicle, he noticed water on the floorboard under the front passenger's seat. The contact cleaned up the water; however, the failure recurred on another occasion. The contact stated that there was a significant amount of water under the front passenger's seat. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was inspected. The local dealer determined that the failure occurred because the sunroof drain was clogged. Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
