What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2012 Ford F-350, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the contact rolled over a bump and the vehicle started to shudder and sway to the left and right violently. The contact slowed down to 20 MPH and regained control of the vehicle. The contact stated there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred two years prior. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who installed dampers and a track bar on the front end. The contact had not yet taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic following the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
I'm currently experiencing the "Death Wobble" with my vehicle, making it unsafe to drive past 60 mph due to intense shaking. This is a serious safety concern for both me and my family. This issue happens frequently on the freeway, and we all fear that the wheels could fall off or the vehicle might flip over. When I took the vehicle to the service center, the advisor told me I needed to add a stabilizer to my front wheels and suggested that I buy the part online and install it myself, recommending YouTube for guidance. However, I have no idea what part to buy or where to get it. I’m not the designer of the truck, and I shouldn’t have to add extra parts for it to drive properly. I also believe this is a manufacturer issue, especially since multiple people seem to be experiencing the same problem.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while his son was driving 25 MPH, the front track bar unexpectedly fractured into two pieces, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road. Additionally, the vehicle had experienced the death wobble. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the front track bar fracture caused the rear axle to be pushed into the fuel cooler, which caused the fuel cooler to be punctured and to leak. The contact was informed that the front track bar and the fuel cooler needed to be replaced, and a coolant flush needed to be performed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.

I purchased my F350 new in 2012. Since that time I have experienced a severe wobble in the front end while I am driving. It starts vibrating at about 45mph and sometimes escalates to where I have to almost slam on the brakes to stop it. It has done this probably 12-15 times and since 2022 it is definitely getting worse and worse. Ford says its my motor mounts, but it has done this since it was new! I read about the "death wobble" on the internet and I definitely have a defective front end. I am concerned that it may cause me to be in a bad accident after having to hit the brakes so hard to stop it. Can you assist?

WE HAVE BEEN MAINTAINING OUR VEHICLE AND HAD NO WARNING LIGHTS AT THE TIME OUR TRUCK DIED . AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT IT HAD OIL AND WATER. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE AT FULL SPEED WHEN SUDDENLY, THE TRUCK STARTED SHUDDERING, AND THEN IT COMPLETELY LOST POWER. A CLOUD OF BLUE-WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE BACK OF OUR TRUCK. WE WERE LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE TURNPIKE TO A SAFE PLACE. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE MECHANIC HAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP AND CAN'T BE FIXED. OUR TRUCK ONLY HAS 134,000 MILES - IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BLOWN UP LIKE THIS.

Death wobble
I was on the road and I hit a bump on the freeway only going between 55 and 65 mph and the Truck immediately started to whobble out of control I almost hit the car next to me because I could not control it . It was a life and death experience I could never shake off . I spoke to the dealer and they claimed they had never heard of such thing and acted like they didn’t believe me. What ever is wrong with it needs to be recalled because I’m surprised that no one was hurt on rush our in a busy city like Salt Lake City. Ford is being very irresponsible for not fixing the problem.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim

I GOT THE TRUCK BACK AGAIN A LITTLE OVER 2 WEEKS LATER ON 04/23/2020. I FEEL THE TRUCK IS SO UNSAFE THAT IT WILL CAUSE ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT PLACING MY LIFE THAT OF MY FAMILY OR ANOTHER DRIVER IN A SEPARATE VEHICLE AT STAKE. UPON REVIEWING ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS NONE OF THE DOCUMENTS HAVE THE SAME ODOMETER READING AND THE NUMBER IS APPROX. 24000 OFF.

FREQUENTLY ON DAMP AND COLD DAYS, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTS MALFUNCTIONING. THE WIPERS FAIL TO WORK. THE LIGHTS (HEAD, PARKING FOG, BLINKERS) ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE TRUCK DON'T WORK. WHEN I REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE TRUCK THE RADIO AND ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN AFTER I TRY TO LOCK THE DOORS. SOMETIMES THE RADIO RANDOMLY TURNS ON WHILE I'M NOT IN THE TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO FREEZE UP AND THE TRUCK PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. WHENEVER THE TRUCK IS TURNED ON THERE IS A LOUD HUMMING NOISE THAT COMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD.

AT 55 MILES AN HOUR ON ROUGH PAVEMENT, THE TRUCK BEGIN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE BACK AND FORTH. THIS SHAKING AND JERKING CAUSED ME TO ENTER INTO THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC. IN ORDER TO REGAIN I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTROL THEREBY GETTING THE SPEED DOWN TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. FORD SUGGESTED I CHECKING THE BALL JOINTS AND THE STEERING STABILIZERS. AFTER SPENDING OVER $600 IN PARTS (NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY)AND REPLACING THE WHOLE FRONT END LINKAGE, THE VEHICLE THEN DROVE FINE UNTIL I REACHED ANOTHER 45 THOUSAND MILES OR APPROXIMATELY 90 THOUSAND MILES TOTAL ON TRUCK. NOW IT HAS REPEATED THE SAME PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN THROWING ME INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAFFIC. THE REASON FOR PURCHASING A NEW TRUCK IS TO HAVE A SAVE VEHICLE TO USE FOR PERFORMING MY JOB. THIS TRUCK HAS ALL ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND HAS NOT BEEN ALTERED IN ANY WAY PRIOR TO THIS EXPERIENCE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. I HAVE FOUND AN AFTERMARKET STABILIZER BAR THAT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD RECALL AND REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WITH THE PROPER EQUIPMENT BEFORE SOMEONE LOOSES THEIR LIFE OF IT. *TR
