2000 Ford F Super Duty Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

LOSS OF STEERING WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER BRAKES ARE APPLIED, IT FORCED VEHICLE TO WANDER ACROSS THE ROAD; VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF DEALER SHOP ON SEVERAL OCCASION, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THEY CANNOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE HYDROBOOST SYSTEM PROHIBITS STEERING WHILE BRAKING IN MOST HARD BRAKING/EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, WHEN FULL BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE STEERING SYSTEM IS RENDERED INOPERABLE. *SLC

STEERING SYSTEM: WHEN VEHICLE IS FIRST STARTED OR DRIVE ON COLD DAY THERE STEERING SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. ALSO WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED STEERING WHEEL WILL STOP AT A HALF OF A TURN. EXCESSIVE EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO TURN. 2. BRAKE ROTORS WILL SOMETIMES VIBRATE WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED. ALSO ANTI-LOCK WILL TURN ON AND DRASTICALY INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE. 3. TRANSMISSION WILL SOMETIMES NOT LET ME SELECT FIRST OR SECOND GEAR. VEHICLE MUST BE IN LOW OR THIRD, THEN SHIFTED BACK INTO FIRST TO GET GOING. *AK
