What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2011 Ford Fiesta, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The vehicle has a really serious issue relating to the fuse box that is mounted under the hood. This issue has a recall and I scheduled it for service at the Ford dealer in bryan, ohio. (Bryan Ford) I have issues with this vehicle that make it extremely unsafe for me and my family to drive. The headlights randomly go out while driving, both passenger and drivers side are affected by this. The doors will not lock and I have no horn now either, making us a target for car jacking. About a month before I found out there was a recall for this I hit a racoon and it knocked off the plastic wheel cover. After I took it in to have the recall fixed Bryan Ford refused to repair this recall due to the missing plastic. I believe my family and I are going to be seriously injured in this vehicle because of the electrical problems related to the recalled fusebox. I blow a headlight approximately once a week and the fuses blow constantly. I believe they do not want to fix this because it is a very time consuming repair that they feel isn't worth thier time. The anxiety I have while driving this car after dark is excruciating and i feel that my families lives are worth the time for this repair. Is this legal for them to decline a known and well documented safety issue related to the fuse box in this vehicle? Perhaps a buy back should be recalled since this does make the vehicle a serious Hazzard to anyone on the road including my family.
1)14MO2 - The transmission control module (TCM) failed. Yes it is available for inspection upon request, however the issue has been repaired since the malfunction. The vehicle could no longer be controlled. It could not shift gear. The check engine light came on, but the vehicle was not operational. A 65 year old disabled operator was transporting her 6 year old granddaughter home from school when the malfunction took place. Two lives inside the vehicle were placed at risk as well as the lives of other drivers and passengers in the vicinity. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer. Ford issued a 14MO2 warranty extension on this part. We brought the vehicle to Covert Ford of Hutto, TX who confirmed the warranty extension. However, they would not cover the repair, because the extension expired 3 months prior. Due to the COVID pandemic, the high risk elderly category of the driver, she did not seek repair earlier. Also, she is not the first owner of the pre-owned vehicle and did not receive any information regarding this warranty extension to seek repair. The vehicle and component has been inspected by Covert Ford of Hutto. The check engine light came on at the time of failure. At that point a tow truck was called (the vehicle was not operational) and it was towed to the dealer, Covert Ford of Hutto. 2)2OS30 - Door Latch Recall. This has been repaired. Yes, vehicle is avail. for inspect. on req. 65 year old disabled driver and passengers put at risk for door opening while in motion. Other drivers in vicinity put at risk. Problem confirmed by dealer with recall issued. Component inspected and replaced by dealership Covert Ford of Hutto. The door did not shut properly. No warning lamps/lights to indicate an issue.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure was not duplicated. Additionally, the contact received notification of Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02; however, the dealer informed the contact that there was no indication of transmission failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the repair could not be covered under an unknown special program or recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the safety failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
I am reporting a serious mechanical and safety issue involving my 2011 Ford Fiesta. After receiving a partially state-funded engine replacement in June 2025, my vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems shortly after. Within a month, it went into limp mode multiple times, and warning lights appeared: the wrench light, incline warning, and “Transmission Malfunction – Service Now” messages. A diagnostic scan revealed multiple DTCs related to the Transmission Control Module (TCM), Input/Output Shaft Speed Sensors, and Clutch A disengagement (P286F) — which I understand are linked to known issues with this model’s transmission. These failures make the car dangerous to drive. The vehicle has lost power unexpectedly, putting me at risk of an accident. I’ve also been told by the repair shop that I may now need a new transmission and/or TCM, despite just receiving a major engine repair. I am unable to afford another large repair and this situation has severely impacted my ability to travel safely. I am requesting an investigation into the Ford Fiesta’s transmission problems and to confirm whether this should have been covered by a recall or warranty extension. I want to also add that my transmission clutch was repaired by Ford only 2 years ago. Please advise if this falls under known manufacturer defects or safety bulletins, and whether Ford Motor Company can be held responsible for the faulty transmission and associated safety risks.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
I am having issues with the fuse box under the hood. I keep shorting out on my headlights ans AC clutch relay. I've purchased new head lights (bulbs), replaced them and they still didn't work. I checked the fuses after investigation online and they have blown. I had my AC completely fixed and it ran fine for a while, then stopped working. I had it checked and was told the AC relay clutch fuse was loose. I replaced it. Three weeks later it shorted out, again.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Upon acceleration from a stop the transmission seriously shutters and stalls the vehicles engine seriously putting the occupants life and safety at risk as well as others. I also noticed that the vehicle shutters badly at speeds 3mph through 25mph bucking and stalling the engine all the way through making driving the vehicle a real danger and threat to the safety of others on the road. This is a serious and dangerous situation I’ve been placed in and by this vehicle being my only source of transportation endangers my life and safety and the safety of others on the road due to the stalling and hesitation upon entering traffic it’s deadly. Weather conditions also contribute to the life threatening dangers while traveling. Vehicle has not been inspected by a certified technician due to to my extended hours of required employment with no other source of transportation yet I am more than willing to get a free inspection by a Ford Facility. Yes there is a yellow check engine light on the dashboard that was never present up until the shuttering and stalling started 3 to 4 months ago. Please update me with any solutions you may have ASAP to address this urgent and faulty issue, this is of great importance and safety concern. It has been brought to my attention that a article dated July 18, 2019 in the Detroit Free Press states “Ford is aware of this problem yet still put the vehicle into production and sent a memo to its dealers advising them to address the issue and customers concerns and repair the Known Problem free of charge. Please reach out and instruct me with this Known Ford Problem so that we can resolve this ASAP.
My 2011 Ford Fiesta shudders, has sudden or Delayed Acceleration, delays in downshift, difficulty stopping/braking,it hesitates when changing gears.also has harsh engagement.I purchased from a private owner in 2021. I have contacted Ford Motor Company Headquarters. I have taken it to my local Ford Dealership, told them what it does, they would not drive it so they could see what it does and how dangerous it can be at times. All they said was "oh it's the TCM and we got them back ordered for 6 mths" But if I want to pay for and order the part and just leave my car setting at the Ford Dealership until the part comes in I can do that. Then pay God only knows how much for them to put the part on. This is the only vehicle I have right now. I told them that. They said "oh we can't give ya no loaner car for that long. And the longer you drive it like that the more it's gonna tear up other parts of your car. And The Ford Motor Company said Oh you missed the deadline for the buy back program or any compensation for your carI Ford has failed to meet the standards required by The Federal Motor Safety Commission and yhey refuse to acknowledge me or help me in any way. All the other 2011 Ford Fiesta cars with the Dual Shift Clutch Transmission were fixed or bought back or the owners were compensated. I am in the same unsafe predicament as those consumers were. I'm not asking for a brand new vehicle Or thousands of dollars. I just want my car fixed and something to drive to work and to the grocery store while they fix it. Or another car of equal value to what my car is supposed to be. Thank you in advance for anything you can help me with.

Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
THE CAR SHUDDERS AND FEELS LIKE IT OS GOING TO STALL OUT. THE CAR REVS HIGH WHEN YOU PRESS THE GASS BUT HAS NO POWER. I'VE TAKEN IT TWICE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE TO FIX THE THROTTLE BODY FIRST BEFORE THEY CAN TELL ME IF IT'S MY TRANSMISSION. ALSO WHEN I'M FILLING UP MY TANK IT STOPS EVERY FEW SECONDS AND WILL NOT ALLOW GAS TO GO IN THE TANK. THEY ALSO SAID IT'S MY FILLER NECK.
THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SORRY BOTTLE POSITION SENSOR KEEPS ON SAYING IT'S SPELT FAULTY, BUT WHEN I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL IT WAS STILL HAVING ISSUES, AND NOW I'M BARELY GETTING TO AND FROM WORK ANYMORE OR ANYWHERE ELSE, EVEN DOWN THE STREET BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO PUT ITSELF IN SAFE MODE. SO I AM OUT FOR A THOUGHT OF BODY AND A GAS PEDAL, AND IT'S STILL NOT FIXED THE ISSUE
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving my car with my two little nieces in the backseat, I heard a sound that made me think a wheel was coming off. As long as I was driving straight, the vehicle seemed to be okay. But when I made a turn onto the next road, something broke underneath the car and we began to spin around. It felt like the wheels were rubbing under the floor of the car and we were in the middle of the street. When I got out, I saw the rear wheels were cocked at an angle to the rest of the car. I thank God we weren't on a busy highway where we could have all been killed.
I WAS HEADING OUT IN REVERSE THE CAR FELT SLOW WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS IT TOOK A WHILE TO ACCELERATE. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE WHEEL FELT STIFF AND SHAKY. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO TURN, BUT IT WOULDN'T GO. IT FELT LIKE THE GAS WAS SUFFOCATING IT WASN'T MOVING AND THE WHEEL FELT STIFF AND HARD TO TURN IT TOOK A AWHILE TO MOVE. I GOT SCARED AND DROVE BACK HOME. I TOOK IT TO FORD LEFT IT THERE TO GET CHECKED. I ASKED ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE LIGHT HAD TURNED ON. I WAS TOLD THEY RESET THE MODULE AND THAT THEY SENT ME AN ESTIMATE TO MY EMAIL IF I WANTED TO DO THE REPAIRS THAT THEY RECOMMENDED. I ASKED IF IT WAS OK TO DRIVE THE CAR THEY SAID YES, THAT I WOULD FEEL IT SHUDDER, BUT THAT IT WAS OK TO GO. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT TO WORK, BUT IT STILL TAKES A WHILE WHEN I PRESS THE GAS.

Brake peddle started to feel soft. Performed front brake job. Peddle still felt soft. Took to local mechanic said back breaks needed replacing along with some other items. Took vehicle to second mechanic for second opinion. At that time they replaced brake master cylinder all rear brake components, brake fluid flush and after completing that work mechanic came to us and said this vehicle will be needing a whole new ABS system and that cannot be done because Ford and other companies stopped making the parts to complete the job. He then said the Venice is unsafe to drive and can not be fixed due to lack of parts.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE BRAKES SQUEAKED, THE STEERING LOST POWER, AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. The low beam headlights do not turn on, all the other lights work as normal including the high beams. The fuses have not blown and there are no warning lamps or messages. This is a known problem with this make and model, there is a recall in Canada for this issue. The safety of others is put at extreme risk in any kind of low light condition (fog, rain, etc.) As well as my own safety by not being able to see in front of me. It is illegal to drive with high beams on in residential areas so I am just unable to drive at night. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. I suspect this is related to the design of the fuse box which allows debris and moisture to get into the relays, again, see the Canadian recall.

TAKARA RECALL I'VE OWNED THIS DEATH TRAP SINCE 2012 AND HAS HAD THE DUAL TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT LEAST TWICE.. IT HAS ALWAYS JERKED AND STALLED OUT ON ME WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS, PULLING OFF FROM STOP SIGNS/RED LIGHTS, AND WHILE DRIVING UP HILLS. IT'S EMBARRASSING, BUT MOST OF ALL UNSAFE FOR ME, MY CHILDREN, AND OTHER DRIVERS.
AT 232 MILES WE STARTED TAKING THIS CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, AND WERE TOLD THEY HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS GOING ON, BEFORE 60,000 MILES THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION OR DID SOFTWARE UPDATES NUMEROUS TIMES, ALSO AFTER 60,000 IT CONTINUED. IN ADDITION THE FRAME AND AXELS HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WHEN THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD MECHANIC THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED THAT DUE TO THE SEVERE SHAKING CAUSED BY THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. IN ADDITION THE AIR CONDITIONING HAD ISSUES OVER AND OVER AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALSO HAD ISSUES AFTER RECALLS FOR SOMETHING TO DUE WITH THE BATTERY HARNESS, MY LIGHTS WENT OUT, MY RADIO STOPPED WORKING, MY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AND MANY OTHER ODD ELECTRICAL THINGS HAPPENED AT THIS POINT THIS CAR SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUES, WHILE I WAIT AND HOPE THAT FORD IS FORCED TO DO A BUY BACK. I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE WENT OFF TO COLLEGE IN THE HOPES SHE WOULD HAVE A SAFE RELIABLE CAR, IT HAS BEEN ANYTHING BUT THAT, SO MANY PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS BUT UNABLE TO FINANCIALLY TO PURCHASE ANOTHER AND FORCED TO SPEND MONEY ON REPAIRS TO KEEP THIS ONE RUNNING. I AM SO UPSET THAT THEY KNEW BEFORE THEY EVER PUT THIS CAR ON THE ROAD THAT IT WAS UNSAFE JUST SO THEY COULD MAKE MONEY AT THE RISK THEY WERE PUTTING PEOPLE IN, THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES MY DAUGHTERS CAR WOULD SHAKE STUTTER AND SLOW DOWN THAT SHE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.. I HAVE ALL OF THE WORK BILLS DO YOU WANT THOSE?
