2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Brake service lights comes on. Noticed softer feel when pressing on brakes and longer distance needed to come to complete stop. There were no noticeable changes in driving habits before the maintenance light came on. Diagnostics were done 02/2023 at Sacramento Downtown Ford and was told to replace a brake hose.

While traveling down the road, suddenly the steering gets hard to turn and the antilock brake system goes out. Usually, you can correct the problem by stomping on the brake or turning the car off and back on. Several warnings come up including Advancetrac failure. It’s a very dangerous situation when your power steering goes out while traveling down the road. This same issue has occurred more than 5 times.

SOME MONTHS AGO THE CHECK BRAKES LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT TO THE BRAKE SHOP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A LITTLE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKE PADS SO THEY REPLACED THEM AND CLEANED ALL THE BRAKES AND FILLED THE FLUID. I WAS FINE FOR A A WHILE THEN A FEW MONTHS AGO THE CHECK BRAKES LIGHT REAPPEARED. AT THAT TIME I SAW FORD WAS RECALLING MY CAR MODEL FOR FAULTY BRAKE LINES. I CALLED FORD AND THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR IS NOT RECALLED YET. I ALSO EMAILED FORD WITH THE SAME REPLY. NOW I NOTICE IS I PARK MY CAR WHERE THE FRONT IS ELEVATED THE BRAKES ARE VERY LOOSE AND I HAVE TO PUMP THEM TO STOP WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE.

WHEN I HAD TO BRAKE, THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKE EVEN THOUGH I HAD PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE. THE RESULT WAS THAT I HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. SINCE IT WAS NOT HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC, MY INJURY WAS TRAUMA TO MY FOOT. THE CONCERN WAS THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP, NOT AN 'EMERGENCY' STOP. I WAS ON A SURFACE STREET WHERE SPEED WAS 35-40 MILES PER HOUR. ALL AIR BAGS WERE DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. AS A RESULT, UNABLE TO DO ANY OTHER INVESTIGATION. I DO NOT HAVE
