2022 Ford Mustang Mach E Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Ongoing issues with forward facing radar preventing collision assistance and adaptive cruise control along with lane keep assist from working. Ford knows about this. There is even a TSB. A car manufactured in an era that requires collision prevention should not be allowed to have significant camera faults that prevent safety systems from functioning properly. Unfortunately, the plan for many is to continue operating without these important safety features and crashes will occur as a result. Ford should be required to properly fix their radar system functionality in the Mach-E.

The vehicle’s rear/360 camera system, SYNC/APIM display system, and Reverse Brake Assist/back-over prevention system appear to have malfunctioned. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. After a software update was performed by the Ford dealer, the vehicle began displaying the warning message: “Reverse Brake Assist not available — See manual.” At the same time, the rear/360 camera image became distorted and unreliable. The camera display has shown abnormal behavior, including distortion, flickering, black/green screen behavior, and an inaccurate or unclear 360-degree view. This issue was not present before the dealer-performed software update. The safety risk is that the rear camera and Reverse Brake Assist are used when backing up to help detect objects, people, vehicles, or obstacles behind the vehicle. Because the camera image is distorted and Reverse Brake Assist is unavailable, the driver may not receive accurate visual information or automatic braking assistance while reversing. This creates a risk of backing into a pedestrian, another vehicle, property, or an unseen object. The problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center after the failure. UNKNOWN whether Ford has reproduced the issue. The vehicle/component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others after the issue appeared. UNKNOWN whether the issue is caused by the dealer-performed software update, APIM/SYNC software, rear/360 camera module, camera calibration, camera wiring/connection, or another related system. There were warning messages and symptoms after the failure began. The warning message “Reverse Brake Assist not available — See manual” appeared after the dealer-performed software update. The camera distortion and rear/360 camera display malfunction also appeared after the dea

was driving my 2022 Mustang Mach-E in "One-Pedal" Whisper mode on. I always drive in that mode because it has a great feature where as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator the car slows down significantly. I feel safer in this mode especially in high traffic or on the freeway. I was very slowly turning into a parking spot in a private parking lot, stepped on brake to put car into Park when the car lurched forward without me touching anything, I had no control of my car no matter how hard I pressed on the brake. My car was driving itself!! when it lurched forward it hit a car parked directly in front of it on its right front side then pushing that vehicle about 2 feet! it did not stop even then, it veered to the right and forward and hit another parked car in the next parking space to the first car that was hit. My car pushed the 2nd car about 2-3 feet before it stopped almost hitting the car parked next to it!! There was an eye witness. This event scared me to death. It was as if someone else was driving my car. I had absolutely NO CONTROL of it. It would NOT STOP. I am soo grateful this happened in a parking lot and not in fast traffic or God forbid the freeway. I would not get back inside my car and never will. We had it towed to a certified repair shop. My car sustained front end & right side front damage. The first car hit sustained right front damage. The 2nd car hit was parked next to the first car hit and sustained right front & right side passenger door damage. No injury. The repair shop has a certified EV Specialist who is going to read the recorder to see how it malfunctioned. There was a police report but haven't received it as of yet. We contacted Ford where we purchased our car. They told us it would be better once repaired to sell the car ourselves as it could take a very long time for Ford to agree to buy it back my car back! only has $9,000 miles on it!! I hope Ford takes this issue seriously!!!

I was backing up the car and the car raced on it own at least couple of times. Luckily no-one was injured. I am worried about the safety of my family including a newborn. There was a Recall 22S29 for the mach-e but it seems to have not fixed the issue for my car.

The front camera has failed. The automatic emergency breaking, the adaptive cruise control, and normal cruise control do not work, at all. The camera began to fail within the first year of ownership but it would start to work shortly after. After about 1.5 years of ownership, there was a permanent sign of malfunction on the screen, making the above features inoperable.

The Adaptive Cruise Control indicated speed lags when user changes speed. The lag will fluctuate from non-existent to 4-5sec at times. It occurs at different speeds and for different changes (e.g., speeding up to 45mph or speeding down to 25mph.) It also occurs when changing speeds in different increments (e.g., one click up for 1mph increase or hold down for 5mph decrease.) The lag is only in the display and not the actual drivetrain, meaning that the selected speed in the Adaptive Control indicator is not relaying the selected speed even though the car itself is changing speed. This is a safety issue as you don't know whether the car has registered a speed increase or decrease for several seconds (which at higher speeds is certainly not safe.) There was an OTA related to the Instrument Control Panel sent earlier this summer that was successfully installed, IPC-25.7.46, however this may be a coincidence. After calling multiple times to Ford, including their OTA update team, their EV Technology Team, and a generic Customer Experience team, I was told to bring it into a dealership AND submit a complaint to NHTSA. The dealership identified modules that required updating but that did not fix the issue. Ford has NOT been helpful and their Customer Experience reps have been dismissive of the seriousness of this issue.

Shortly after purchasing my vehicle on [XXX], specifically on [XXX] a significant malfunction was encountered, indicated by the 'Front Camera Fault Service Required' and 'Pre-Collision Assist Not Available' warnings. Returning to the dealership on May 5th, the manager misinformed, stating the issue was a recall and required service at a Ford dealership. However, upon contacting Ford Lincoln with the VIN, it was discovered these codes are not associated with any recall. I returned to the dealership, provided them the printout from Ford Lincoln explaining the codes and how it's not a recall. They then told me that they will not honor the repairs due to me exceeding my 30-day extension. I proceeded to leave and said I'll deal with it when it poses a problem. After a resent software update, a new code popped up saying "Door Fault Service Required". July 2025 Koons Ford picked my car up and they confirmed that the issues documented in the attached photos are not covered by any recalls. However, this experience is further corroborated by attached photos and testimony from others reporting identical recurring problems since 2022. You can reference to the [XXX] " for the other vehicle owner's testimony. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At highway speeds, the power brakes failed. In order to slow the car down, the brakes pedal had to be modulated with extreme force, upwards of 100 pounds of pressure on the brake pedal. As this happened, the car raised 4 Active Alerts - Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power - Antilock Brake Fault - Hill Start Assist Warning - Pre-Collision Assist Not Available. It took a lot of force and distance to bring the car safely to a stop. After 20 minutes we restarted the car and it began to operate normally. The car was brought to a nearby dealer immediately, however, the dealership is unable to diagnose nor replicate the problem. ***We were extremely lucky there were no cars immediately in front of us, and that we have an extreme amount of room to stop. Had we been driving in traffic, there would have been an extremely high likelihood of an accident with injury.

Multiple safety features rendered INOPERABLE AND USELESS including front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system because FORD uses an inferior product to connect the vehicle's cameras and sensors. Each of the systems listed "front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system" are now DISABLED and they are integral to preventing collisions. The vehicle is marketed with those features and is presumably justification of the MSRP charged to customers. FORD is apparently aware of the issue based on FORD forums, that replacement of windshield can comprise the coax cable. The company is using an outdated and less reliable coax cable to run sensors and cameras for an Electric Vehicle when a much more viable, pliable and reliable Fiber media has been available for over 20 years is shortsighted and cheap. Coax to run safety features also brings into question how that feature was safety tested. The vehicle was diagnosed by a Ford Dealership in PA, "U2107" code indicating an issue with the coax cable used to connect the sensors and camera. No component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. Even though there were warning messages it is UNKOWN when the issue actually started or know exactly when the systems failed. I am sure FORD can check the messages store in the software.

Car was stopped at the top of a hill. Driver put the car in park and exited to talk to a security guard to raise a security barrier. Car began to roll down a hill and didn't stop until it hit a metal security gate 250 yards away. Car was totaled as result of collision with gate. No one was hurt. It would appear that the transmission/engine did not stay in park and began to roll and that none of the other safety features stopped the car. There were no passengers in the car at the time of the accident and no airbags went off.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that while having the Blue Cruise system activated at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle suddenly drifted to the right. The contact was able to straighten out the vehicle however, the vehicle drifted to the left and then to the right again. After a while, the contact was able to regain control of the vehicle by manually operating the steering wheel instead of using the Blue Cruise system to control the vehicle. The contact stated that shortly after regaining control of the vehicle, the failure recurred in the opposite direction going from left to right, and then to the left. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to maintain control. The dealer was contacted and was able to remotely pull the codes from the vehicle for diagnostic testing. The dealer diagnosed that the camera system and control modules had failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer for servicing. The failure mileage was 30,000.

I have had 14 incidents over two years where this vehicle suddenly, rapidly accelerates from slow speed, usually less than 15 mph, and six of those incidents had a near collision. Most of the incidents happen in a parking lot or drive-thru and require immediate fast braking to avoid collision. This sudden, unexpected acceleration has been widely discussed on the Mach-E Forum and there is general agreement the cause is inadvertent engaging cruise control by accidentally hitting an overly sensitive button on the steering wheel when the hands are in the 9 to 3 position. I have reviewed all related threads on the forum and counted 36 different owners who have experienced this same problem, most reporting near collisions and serious concerns for safety. Some posters have described possible remedies.

There is an issue with the vehicle displaying the speed when operating. I have experienced this issue randomly over the past year. The speed is typically displayed on the information cluster screen above the steering wheel. I have photo and video of the issue but the Upload File button is not working on your website. The only resolution so far has been to restart the vehicle. It does not appear that this can be resolved while the vehicle is ON.

Ford is aware of these issues and I can't believe they are ignoring them and making me pray through them. My vehicle, since I purchased it, has had issues with the adaptive cruise, the accident avoidance gets disabled, lane assist stops working, and the final thing is that it registers that the camera is not working and must be serviced. the last thing that happened is that the car shut down its self driving in the middle of taking a turn on the highway and proceeded to drive me off the road. There was no braking or anything, when I reacted to stop it, I barely missed the guard rail and the car fought me to even turn the wheel. This has been documented with multiple dealerships. All of them have dealt with Ford's technicians remotely and have all failed at fixing my issues. Before it everything stopped working again, it went on and off for months as it did before... the failed completely. Because of this, my wife and I only transport our children in her vehicle out of concerns for our family's safety. Ford will try to say they won't replace my vehicle due to its current milage, but this was well documented and never fixed long before this. its been happening since 2,000 miles.

While driving on I-40 East between Raleigh, NC and Benson, NC I was trying to use the Blue Cruise self driving feature on my Mache. The system is frightening to me because it tends to default towards the marker between lanes and requires more attention than so called hands free driving is supposed to need. However, in this situation, there was a stretch of the highway where the lane markers were half white and then half black stripes. When I hit that stretch the car veered over the lane markers into the passing lane and if I hadn't resumed control, would have taken me completely into the other lane. The dash indicated that the system was in control of the car for the entire time. It had not disengaged at any point.

While driving on the freeway at about 65 mph through a gradual left bend in the road, with fully active SuperCruise (lane keeping, active cruise control) and fully hands off, the vehicle suddenly veered into the adjacent right lane. The vehicle moved into the adjacent lane at a high rate, and could have resulted in a heavy side impact to a vehicle driving in that lane (and potentially rippling into the lane to the right of that as well). Throughout the deviation, SuperCruise remained active without warning lamps or any inducement of driver takeover. I caught the malfunction and manually overpowered the steering to bring the vehicle back into the original driving lane. The vehicle has no active open recalls, and is operating with the latest firmware updates installed. The vehicle has not been inspected by dealer, manufacturer, or any other group for any relating issues.

On 3 occasions in the past month I have been driving down the road and, without any action from me, cruise control has turned itself on, with a speed set above the speed limit. I noticed it because the car accelerated to reach the target speed (which was an unsafe speed). I immediately braked and turned off the cruise control. The first two times it happened, I was pretty sure I had not accidentally activated cruise control by touching the button on the steering wheel. The third time, I was on a straight stretch of highway and was 100% sure I had done nothing to activate cruise control I had not used cruise control at any point from the time I turned on the car until the time this happened. I was between 10 and 15 minutes into my trip when this occurred.
