2023 Ford Mustang Mach E Fuel system Problems

I’ve had this situation happen at least 2 to 3 times but specifically I’ll talk about the most recent. I was reversing out of my parking spot approximately 20 feet or so to where I can turn around and circle around the parking lot and exit. When I switched over to drive the vehicle accelerated rapidly unprompted. I was able to stop it by using the break, but I can also see how this could be a significant safety issue.

On 2 occassions in the past 2 week, our Mustang Mach E has accelerated on its own. In the first incident, it was a minor acceleration. It caught me by surprise as I was pulling up to a curb to drop off a passenger. It was easily stopped with brake pressure. In the 2nd incident, the acceleration was greater and more pronounced while pulling into a parking spot, requiring the pressure of both feet to quickly stop it before it went up onto a sidewalk and into a store front. It's never done this before, but certainly could cause an accident and was unsettling. We have not taken it to the dealer because it is random and not replicate-able. There were no warning lamps or error messages at the time. The vehicle was functioning and acting normal otherwise.

At [XXX] on Tuesday [XXX] while driving our 2023 Ford Mustang Mach E GT eastbound in the left lane on [XXX] near the [XXX] intersection the car suddenly stopped. There was a second or two of multiple warning notices then the car instrument panel went blank. The car “bricked” as is known in Electric Vehicle jargon. There was no power to anything, and the stop was sudden and steering was extremely difficult. Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Transportation responded to provide safety assistance while eastbound traffic on [XXX] backed up for several miles. The car is now at Frontier Ford in Anacortes Washington and they have confirmed its status as completely dead. In fact it took almost an hour to get the car off the tow truck. The dealership tried several battery jumper options to the 12v battery but when they worked it seemed to only work for a few seconds before the car “bricked” again. There is probably a WSP police and WSDOT report about responding to this incident. In the seconds before the complete electrical shutdown there was a cascade of warning notices then everything went blank and the car abruptly stopped in traffic. It took over an hour to get a tow truck and then the cars “bricked” status made the towing job very difficult and eventually the car was literally dragged onto the flatbed with a winch. This incident happened during rush hour in heavy traffic and both occupants safely was put at high risk of a high speed collision from traffic approaching from the rear of the car. We have made two reports to Ford Customer Service. Case # [XXX] And case # [XXX] The suddenness and inability to maneuver and get out of traffic is a real safety problem that can lead to a severe accident. The charging system would not work after purchase. Without careful planning I could have been stuck hours from home, stranded. I tried about 8 different chargers and called support with no luck. We ended up having to tow it to the dealership. We've now waited 3 weeks to be told 2 electrical wiring harnesses are corroded ( brand new car ) and they are not able to order the parts they need.

After a few days in garage attempted to drive out where first upon engaging drive selection, releasing brake pedal, and slight throttle, a clunk and jerk launch occurred. With each subsequent wheel rotation there was a scraping sound synchronized with a torque dip in the propulsion. drove 1-2 blocks up street up to ~5 MPH and this symptom followed exact with speed. Stopped car, tried reverse a block, same thing, surging like propulsion with apparent torque dips in sync with speed. Repeated in drive, then reverse a few times, then parked back in garage to be towed into dealer. I put masking tape on steering wheel AND on Windshield saying not to drive over 2MPH to witness the symptoms. Upon receipt at dealer, was told symptom was then repeated, therefore car would be held for a while as it would need to be torn down and analyzed to find the cause. After 3 weeks, told not yet finding the cause, we discussed possibility of brakes where they agreed and was to pull them apart to inspect. Never did. Now 4 weeks later, still at dealer, telling me they cannot repeat the effect but that drove it around. I told speed may have wiped it away, this 2nd time it was towed in for this. I consider this a safety / drivability issue and want it noted, (And fixed of course).

While charging at a DC Fast Charging station, my vehicle reported "High Voltage" Battery problem. So I disconnected from the charger and started driving home. While driving I got “Stop Safely Now” message on the dashboard. I could hardly pull over to the shoulder. The car immediately went dead as soon as I stopped. I was lucky to be on a road with no traffic else this could have been a disaster.

Driving approaching a corner and suddenly the vehicle showed on screen "Stop Safely Now" coasting to a stop. Only 180 miles on car. 78 percent charge. 230 miles to empty. Once in Park couldn't move out of park. Ford towing service indicated 3 hours out. Stuck on corner in traffic at intersection in my mind a dangerous situation.

The HVBJB subassembly in ALL Ford Mach-e vehicles has known defects with 'under-designed' main contactors that are known to fail under normal charging and driving conditions as outlined in current open Ford recall notice for my vehicle 22s41. Unfortunately, the internal damage to contactors is not visible externally, and warning notices on display only after damage has occurred, and can result in sudden loss of propulsion power at highway speed, loss of power steering, and power brakes... and failure of other 12v systems due to failure to charge the 12v battery properly after contactors are damaged. Less catastrophic results can include failure to start; which can 'strand' driver's and passengers in remote areas, bad weather conditions, as well as cause loss of use for weeks due to delays in replacement parts and local Dealerships needing equipment and training to effect removal/replacement of faulty unit with a new HVBJB having re-designed 'beefier' components.​ ​ My complaint is that Ford's recall notice 22s41 is a software-only attempt to prevent future damage, and does not require removal of the part(s) which are KNOWN TO FAIL to be replaced with the re-designed components which are available, and have been used to repair failures under warranty. I have no way of inspecting the original equipment to evaluate current condition; and failure can result in sudden and unexpected loss of power, steering, and braking as well as potentially 'stranding me' in unsafe conditions unable to re-start my vehicle.​ Even though I have a MY 2023 Mach-E, it is known that the HVBJB is failing in '23s, and additional failures in earlier MYs that have had the HVBJB replaced with the newer part. ​ I would like to see NHTSA strengthen the Ford recall to include both improved software AND removal/replacement of the HVBJB sub-assembly with the new 'beefier' parts, even the latest revision of the part is still failing at an unacceptable rate.

Vehicle suddenly lost power with a warning on the dashboard (service vehicle soon). The component ended up being a high voltage battery junction box (HVBJB) which was replaced by the dealer under warranty. This is a known issue reported on widely on forums such as macheforum.com
