2002 Ford Ranger Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I WAS BACKING MY 2002 FORD RANGER XLT INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I STOPPED THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BACK GAVE WAY WITHOUT WARNING AND I SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF THE CAB. WHEN I LOOKED AROUND THE SEAT I SAW TWO BOLT HEADS ...THEY APPEARED TO BE SHEARED OFF. MY SEAT BACK WILL NOT STAY OR LATCH ANY MORE. *TR

THE TAILGATE LATCH ON THE 2002 FORD RANGER PICKUP BROKE. THE PLASTIC MATERIAL APPEARED TO BE HEAVILY OXIDIZED AND BRITTLE , BASED ON MY MECHANICAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE. THE DEALER THAT REPAIRED THE LATCH SAID THEY SOLD 3 OR 4 OF THESE EACH MONTH AT A COST OF $179.81 EACH, INCLUDING LABOR. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DID NOT ACCEPT THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE IN THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS.*AK

THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR (SUICIDE DOOR) LATCHES AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM. THE BOTTOM LATCH WILL NOT LATCH. AS A RESULT, WHENEVER YOU CLOSE THE REGULAR PASSENGER DOOR IT DOES NOT ALLOW FOR A SECURE LATCH. THE INSIDE LIGHT AND THE IP LIGHT (DOOR AJAR) REMAINS ON UNLESS YOU GO OUTSIDE AND PUSH ON THE DOOR. IF YOU HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE LIGHT CONDITION WILL REAPPEAR. THIS DOOR HAS PROBABLY NOT BEEN USED MORE THAN 25 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW. THE VEHICLE IS A 2002 FORD RANGER SUPERCAB. *NM

I AM HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH MY 6 MONTH OLD TRUCK. A STRANGE OIL LOSS THAT WAS LOOSING 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL A WEEK, NOW FIXED FOR THE MOMENT. THE CLUTCH DISENGAGES IF ANY PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND WILL NOT ENGAGE UNTIL THE PEDAL IS FULLY RELEASED, DEALER CLAIMS ITS NORMAL. VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS HEAP, INCLUDING FAILING SENSORS, INTERIOR LIGHT COMING ON WHEN IT WANTS TO, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON OCCASIONALLY. THIS TRUCK HAS STARTING PROBLEMS SOMETIMES, YOU HAVE TO CRANK THE ENGINE FOR A LONG TIME(UP TO 30 SECONDS SOMETIMES) BEFORE IT WILL START. HAD TO HAVE A TIRE REPLACED WITH 1066 MILES ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE SOME OF THE TREAD WAS BEGINNING TO COME OFF, VEHICLE WAS REALIGNED AT THE SAME TIME TO CURE A PULL TO THE RIGHT WHICH DID NOTHING STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE TRIED TO GET IN CONTACT OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO GET THIS VEHICLE REPLACED UNDER A LEMON LAW TO NO AVAIL. I GET TOLD A STORY AND PUT OFF, THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THIS THING FROM DOES THE SAME THING TRIES TO FIX IT TO NO AVAIL AND PUTS ME OFF. I PAID 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THIS TRUCK AND NOW MAY LOSE MY JOB BECAUSE IT IS NOT DEPENDABLE! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE THIS IS NOT HOW TO TREAT A REPEAT CUSTOMER, THIS BEING MY 4TH FORD PRODUCT AND MY LAST. *NLM
