What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Ford Transit Connect, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
After placing vehicle in Park, vehicle rolled away and destroyed my mailbox. Luckily I was able to stop it inches away from neighbors car. There is a recall for other years, but none for this year. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer yet, however, after talking to the dealership service department, it is a common problem and would cost a lot to repair
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT ON JULY 16,2018 AND A CONTRIBUTING WAS A WORN BRAKE SYSTEM BY MY EMPLOYER'S VEHICLE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED REPAIRS AND IT WAS BROUGHT SUPERVISIONS ATTENTION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I WAS TERMINATED BECAUSE OF THEIR VEHICLE BEING UNSAFE. THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THIS VEHICLE IS IOCAFANO'S CATERING SERVICE AT 1739 SAM RITTENBERG BLVD.THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING TOWARD I-95 HEADED TO SAVANNAH GEORGIA FOR A FOOD DELIVERY WHEN IT WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISON.

Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim

The car can roll/move after the automatic transmission has been put in PARK. There are no warnings or indication of a problem and the ignition key can be removed after the transmission is in PARK. But the car can roll away and injure people or damage property if the emergency brake is not engaged. The transmission shift linkage has been examined and it appears to be fine, with no slop or mis-adjustment, and the linkage bushing (that is the subject of a recall of several other Fords of other model years) seems to be fine and not deteriorated. So, it's not the same problematic part but the vehicle roll away risk and danger to people and property is the same. This problem happens every time the vehicle is put in PARK and been independently verified by the vehicle service maintenance department of Somerset County of the State of New Jersey. This problem has been reported to Ford Motor Company and is documented as Case # CAS42939534.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD TRANSIT CONNECT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND EXIT THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR. THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, STATED THAT THE GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE THAT CONTROLLED ALL OF THE LOCKING MECHANISMS IN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHILE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, BOTH OF THE REAR SLIDING DOORS EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT FAILURES. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
THE POWER DOOR ACTUATOR STOPS WORKING OR WORKS BUT HAS A STRANGE GRINDING SOUND. THE POWER DOOR LOCK WILL REMAIN LOCKED, CANNOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY, AND REQUIRES THE KEY FOB UNLOCK TO EXIT THE VEHICLE.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle drover over the pump in the road and both the front driver's side and front passenger side wheel exterior fender flares along with the front grill had dislodged from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the plastic clips attaching the parts to the body of the vehicle had failed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
2010 Ford Transit Connect 120,000 miles Pulled driver door (electric lock) latch handle to exit vehicle. Upon pulling the door latch handle a very loud buzz lasting for approximately 1 to 2 seconds came from the driver door. I remained in the vehicle and closed the driver door and pressed the door lock mechanism and all doors locked. I then pulled on the driver door latch handle to unlock the doors which resulted in the same loud buzz from the driver's door. I exited the vehicle and locked it using the key fob. Upon returning to the vehicle I unlocked it using the key fob and again a very loud buzz came from the driver door. It was apparent this loud buzz only emanated when the automatic door locks were commanded unlocked, no noise while moving to the locked position. I entered the vehicle to drive home, all doors locked automatically as designed. After parking I pulled on the driver door latch to open the door. No loud buzz, however the latch did not release and the door would not open. The interior door latch lever now offered resistance, which is abnormal. I lowered the driver door window and tried, unsuccessfully, to open the door from the outside. I also tried unlocking the driver door using the key fob to unlock/lock repeatedly, also unsuccessful. I exited the vehicle by climbing to the front passenger side. I then used the key in the driver door lock. Door still wouldn't unlock. Disconnected the battery cable to rule out the possibility the door locking mechanism was still energized. Still could not unlatch and open the driver door. There is likely a mechanical malfunction in the driver door automatic locking mechanism. Thankfully the inability to exit the vehicle was merely an aggravation. Obviously the same cannot be said if circumstances were such that a hasty vehicle exit was required. Dealer has not been notified about this trouble - vehicle is no longer under warranty and I have zero confidence in this dealerships' service department.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD TRANSIT CONNECT. WHILE DRIVING, THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR AND SLIDING DOOR ERRONEOUSLY LOCKED. WHILE THE DOORS WERE LOCKED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED THAT THE DOORS WERE UNLOCKED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (ADVANTAGE FORD, 1031 CENTRAL AVE, DUARTE, CA) WERE NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
LANE CHANGE TURN SIGNAL. FORD HAS VEHICLES WITH THE LANCE CHANGE SIGNAL, WHERE WHEN TAPPING THE TURN SIGNAL HANDLE, THE SIGNAL FLASHES 3 TIMES. IN WISCONSIN AND I ASSUME ALL STATES, THE LAW STATES THAT ONE MUST INDICATE IN ADVANCE THE INTENT OF LANE CHANGE OR TURN AND CONTINUE SIGNAL UNTIL COMPLETED. THREE FLASHES DOES NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE WARNING. SHOULD BE 6-8 FLASHES. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DEALER. NO WAY TO ADJUST THE NUMBER OF FLASHES, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS AS LONG AS WORKING ACCORDING TO SPECS, THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. *TR
LED USE IS MISSING THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF RIGGER FOR CORRECT HUMAN FACTORS! THE OPERATING FREQUENCIES OF PWM (PULSE WIDTH MODULATION) LED'S (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) IS TO LOW FOR SOME VIEWERS! THIS IS A VERY REAL CONDITION KNOWN AS FLICKER FUSION OR CRITICAL FUSION FREQUENCY AND DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME EFFECT ON ALL VIEWERS. THE LAMPS LOOK AS IF THEY ARE ALL OVER THE ROADWAY AND COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL! IT IS JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO THIS!!!! ALL MANUFACTURES USING LED'S OR OTHER FAST RESPONSE LAMPS NEED TO CONSIDER HUMAN FACTORS, THE OPERATING FREQUENCY IS CRITICAL AND NEEDS TO BE OVER 3000 HERTZ (CYCLES PER SECOND). THIS LACK OF CONTROL HAS PUT PROBABLE 10% OF THE DRIVERS AND PILOTS ARE AT RISK! A RECALL IS NEEDED TO FIX THIS TRAVESTY THAT IS OUT OF CONTROL. IT STARTED WITH CADILLAC'S SRX AROUND 2000, NOW IN 2010+ FORD, 2010+ MERCEDES AND VOLKSWAGEN HAVE GONE OVERBOARD AND JUST ABOUT ALL THE VEHICLES THEY BUILD ARE OPERATING AT THIS DANGEROUS AND VERY DEADLY OPERATING FREQUENCY. THE OPERATING FREQUENCY NEEDS TO BE >2500 HERTZ! THE USE OF PWM IS NOT THE PROBLEM IT'S THE OPERATING FREQUENCY! ALL MANUFACTURES THAT USE PWM NEED TO CONSIDER HUMAN FACTORS! *TR

OVER THE YEARS, THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME LOSE TO THE POINT THAT THERE IS ALMOST 3/4" OF PLAY AT THE OUTER EDGE. THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT STAY ON A FLAT PLANE. THIS CONDITION OCCURS AT ALL TIMES. IT MATTERS NOT IF THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, OR IF I AM IN MOTION, TURNING, OR BREAKING.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
MY INITIAL PROBLEM WAS TRACTION CONTROL. IF YOU SLIP COMING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND YOU HIT GRAVEL, MUD, SNOW, RAIN YOUR TRACTION CONTROL WILL STOP YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND YOU CANNOT DRIVE. KIND OF A PROBLEM WITH CARS COMING RIGHT AT YOU. PROBLEM 2 IS THAT THIS SEEMS TO ALSO AFFECT THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE. I AM GOING ON MY SECOND REPLACEMENT AT 72,000 MILES. PROBLEM 3 IS THAT WHEN THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAIL THEY WEAR ON YOUR ROTORS AND I AM NOW ALSO NEEDING TO REPLACE THOSE ALSO. I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT THIS GETS ADDRESSED SOON. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY HAZARD IT IS ALSO A MONEY PIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD TRANSIT CONNECT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN THE SNOW, THE VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO THE TRACTION CONTROL INDEPENDENTLY ASSUMING THE VEHICLE WAS SLIPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
