2014 Ford Transit Connect Visibility Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the visibility system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Visibility reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

This here is the continuation of complain # 11736595 and Ford case # 01747943. The aim is to inform NHTSA and Ford that this issue at hand is already a recall from other years on the same car model, materialized by NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V192 and Ford Recall Number: 22S20. There is no need to identify if this issue can be recalled, it was already identified as necessary in the past. Yet, this one VIN here was left out from the list. The images attached here will show: water dripping from center mirror on dashboard, windshield fog on just about every morning and drive without AC and a video (available) showing windshield glass completely off from its adhesive. Solution offered is having Ford to also include this and other related VINs to its recall 22S20 or create a new near identical recall.

The contact's employer owns a 2014 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the panoramic roof panel detached on the passenger’s side but remained attached to the driver's side. The detached panoramic roof panel struck the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, who determined that the panoramic roof panel was not adequately bonded to the vehicle. The contact was informed that the panoramic roof panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V695000 (Visibility); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 147,219.

WE HAVE FOUR VERY YOUNG CHILDREN WHO RIDE IN THE REAR OF OUR SEVEN PASSENGER TRANSIT CONNECT IN AN AREA OF TENNESSEE WHERE WINTER TEMPS FREQUENTLY DIP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS AND OFTEN BELOW ZERO. OUR HEATER FOR THE REAR PASSENGERS HAS NEVER WORKED. WE HAVE HAD THE VAN BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE. STILL NO REAR HEAT. *TR

PERHAPS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD, BUT THE REAR AREA OF THE 7 PASSENGER IS NOT HEATED, CAUSING DISCOMFORT TO PASSENGERS AND PETS. ACTUALLY, THE REAR "HEATER" BLOWS COLD AIR. TWO DEALERSHIPS HAVE INSPECTED MY VEHICLE (5800 MILES) AND BOTH REPORTED THAT THE DESIGN IS, "INADEQUATE", "POOR", "NOT THOUGHT OUT", "CRAPPY" AND SO ON. THAT WAS THE ONLY EXPLANATION THEY COULD TENDER. I HAVE POSTED THIS SITUATION OF THE TRANSIT CONNECT FORUM AND HAVE NOTED THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I JUST PAID $32,000 FOR A NEW VEHICLE THAT HAS A TOTALLY INADEQUATE REAR HEATING SYSTEM. OF COURSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF JULY SO I NEVER GAVE THE REAR HEATER A THOUGHT. COME TO THINK OF IT, I HAVE NEVER GIVEN A REAR HEATER A THOUGHT AS THEY ALWAYS WORKED. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHECKED THE OPERATION OF THE REAR HEATING SYSTEM BEFORE PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE? *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
