2014 Freightliner XC-R Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 10/28/2013 THE ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN OFF. IT WAS FIRST NOTICED AS DOG TRACKING THEN TIRE WEAR ON THE BACK AND THEN TIRE WEAR ON THE FRONT. NOW AFTER HAVING IT ALIGNED 3-4 TIMES I HAVE BADLY WORN OUT TIRES THAT ARE A DANGER AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE LAST ALIGNMENT WAS AT THE FREIGHTLINER FACTORY SERVICE CENTER IN GAFFNEY, SOUTH CAROLINA AND CURRENTLY THE ALIGNMENT SHOP IS CLAIMING THEY DID THE CASTER BACKWARDS AND TOE IN WAS WAY OFF. ALSO THE BELL CRANK WAS READY TO FALL OFF. TIRES ARE 200,000 MILE TIRES AND ARE WORN OUT AFTER 40,000 MILES.

FOR THREE YEARS SINCE THE FIRST DAY I GOT IT THE ENGINE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. NO POWER STEERING NO GAUGES NO THROTTLE CONTROL ALL WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 - 65 MPH. BY THE TIME I DEAD STICK IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY STARTS AND ALL APPEARS OK. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND MY FAMILY IF I AM ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD AND IN A TURN WHEN THIS MIGHT HAPPEN. IT MAY GO WEEKS BEFORE IT DOES IT AGAIN OR A DAY BUT IT USUALLY IS 1 TO XX HOURS ON THE ROAD TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY OR FREEWAYS. I HAVE HAD FREIGHTLINER SERVICE CENTER AT THE FACTORY LOOK AT IT SEVERAL TIMES AND ALSO CUMINS PLACES. LATELY I HAVE HAD SEVERAL RV REPAIR PLACES TOO BUT PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN SITTING IN THE SHOP IDLING OR A SHORT DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK. ALSO CUMMINS HAS LOOKED FOR ERRORS CODES IN THE COMPUTER AS FREIGHTLINER HAS ALSO AND NOTHING SHOWS UP OR THE COMPUTER RESETS ITSELF.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
