1997 GMC Safari Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY DAUGHTER WAS ATTEMPTING TO HOOK HER SEATBELT BEFORE WE LEFT A PARKING LOT AND THE BUCKLE LITERALLY FELL APART IN HER HAND. THIS WAS A REAR BELT WITH NO DOORS NEARBY SO IT HAD NOT BEEN DAMAGED IN ANY WAY PRIOR TO ITS FAILURE. OUR CONCERN IS THAT HAD WE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IT WOULD NOT HAVE PROTECTED OUR CHILD. THE DEALER SAYS THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT AS WELL. *AK
