2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Body & structure Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the body or structure system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Body & structure reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The body has rust coming through on the lower body panels by the rear doors of a crew cab. Have to replace the AC condenser on a 2015 gmc Denali. Looks like GMC already knows there is an issues with this, but no recall on the 6.2L sierra denalis.

PAINT IS LITERALLY FALLING OFF IN CHUNKS. I BABY MY TRUCK. ITS MINT CONDITION, BUT I NOTICED THE PAINT IS NOT ADHERING TO THE PRIMER IN ATLEAST 2 SPOTS. AFTER SOME RAIN, THE PAINT JUST FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. GM REFUSES TO ASSIST IN REPAIRING. FOR THE COST OF THE VEHICLE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A MAJOR ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NO CLAIMS OR PREVIOUS BODY DAMAGE.

THE VEHICLE ALWAYS HAS A SMELL OF DAMPNESS AFTER A RAIN. SOMEHOW WATER IS GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE SEAL AROUND THE THIRD-BRAKE LIGHT WHICH WAS THOUGHT TO BE THE CULPRIT, BUT NO FIX. THE REAR SEAT METAL HAS RUST ON THEM FROM THE DAMP. THE DRIVER'S SEAT CREAKS WHEN MAKING TURNS. IT IS LIKE IT ABOUT TO COME APART. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. PEOPLE COULD GET HURT IF IT HAPPENS. LE UNDER THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT A BODY-MOUNT IS MISSING UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS COULD BE THE REASONS FOR THE CREAKING. I AM NOT SURE!

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ALL SOUNDS FROM DOOR CHIME, RADIO, ONSTAR, ETC. HAVE FAILED. FURTHER THE PAINT IS BEGINNING TO BLISTER FROM UNDERNEATH. GM IS DENYING BOTH PROBLEMS EXIST. GM SAYS THE PAINT ISSUE IS DUE TO APPLICATION OF AN EXTREME HEAT SOURCE. ARIZONA IS HOT, BUT NOT THAT HOT. THE SOUND ISSUE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE PAINT ISSUE IS TYPICAL CORPORATE DENIAL OF LEGITIMATE CLAIMS.

THE PAINT ON MY 2015 GMC SIERRA IS BUBBLING AND PEELING. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS A CONSISTENT DEFECT ON MY YEAR VEHICLE. I CONTACTED GMC AND MY DEALER THORSON GMC IN PASADENA CALIFORNIA. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THORSON GMC DON SCHWARTZ HAD HIS BODY SHOP LOOK AT THE PAINT ON MY TRUCK AND HIS RESPONSE TO ME WAS THAT THE PAINT ON THE CHIPPING AREAS ON MY TRUCK, BOTH REAR DOORS AND THE ROOF, WAS EXTREMELY THIN AND THAT HE WOULD TRY TO GET GMC TO REPAINT MY DOORS AND ROOF AT THEIR EXPENSE. TWO WEEKS LATER MR. SCHWARTZ CALLS ME BACK AND TELLS ME THAT GMC IS ONLY WILLING TO PAY 40% OF A $5000 PAINT REPAIR AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3140 IF I WANTED MY CHIPS REPAIRED. I FEEL THAT THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE TO PAY FOR AN OBVIOUS FACTORY DEFECT. ADDITIONALLY I REALLY FEEL FOR THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FACING THE SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE GM DIDN'T PAINT THEIR VEHICLES CORRECTLY

THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING EXCESSIVE SURFACE RUST ON NOT ONLY THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK, BUT ON CRITICAL ENGINE COMPONENT CLAMPS IN THE ENGINE BAY. ANY SCREW STYLE HOSE CLAMP IN MY ENGINE BAY ARE RUSTED WORSE THAN MY OTHER 9 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 102,000 MILES ON IT. I WASH MY TRUCK, INCLUDING UNDERCARRIAGE, PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE WINTER TO TRY AND KEEP THE SALT OFF. MY TRUCK IS A 2015 WITH 40,000 MILES, AND JUST RECENTLY, THE RUST HAD COMPLETELY EATEN THROUGH THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE CLAMP CAUSING ALL THE ENGINE COOLANT TO LEAK OUT. I NOTICED THE REST OF THE CLAMPS WITHIN THE ENGINE BAY TO BE IN THE SAME CONDITION, ALONG WITH THE FRAME, AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. IT IS CLEARLY ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY FAIL WHILE I AM DRIVING, WHICH COULD CAUSE A FAILURE OF ANY SYSTEM USING ONE OF THESE RUSTED CLAMPS, SUCH AS THE BRAKE LINES, POWER STEERING LINES, OIL LINES, OR TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES.

HEADLIGHTS ARE INADEQUATE ON HIGH OR LOW BEAMS. IT SEEMS THAT THE LIGHT IS FOCUSED INTO TWO NARROW BEAMS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOW LUMEN LEVEL OF THE LED BULBS. THESE NARROW BEAMS DON'T LIGHT UP ENOUGH OF WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU FOR NIGHT DRIVING. I HAVE TO USE MY FOG LAMPS TO TURN ONTO STREETS WITHOUT STREET LIGHTS ON THE CORNER. THE RECIRCULATING SWITCH FOR THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WILL NOT EVEN REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF OUTSIDE AIR COMING INTO THE CABIN, MUCH LESS OCCLUDE IT. NOT GOOD IN 5 O:CLOCK TRAFFIC OR WHEN YOUR BEHIND A DIESEL BURNER. THE DEALERSHIP ACTS LIKE THEY ARE CLUELESS AND SAY EVERYTHING IS WORKING AS IT SHOULD. AFTER READING THIS FORM WITH SO MANY HEADLIGHT COMPLAINTS, I ASKED IF THEY HAD EVER GOTTEN ANY COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE AND THEY DENIED THAT THEY EVER HAVE; AND THEY DID IT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE!

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
