A trim piece under my hood and above my grille on my 2023 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 flew off and over my windshield this morning during a heavy wind and rain storm. There was no previous damage to the front of my vehicle.
Upper bezel of front grille blew off driving down the hwy landing in oncoming lane of traffic. This is a known problem to GMC on late produced 2022 model year and issued a safety recall #XXX to replace the bezel and reinforce mounting points. I bought my 2023 GMC XXX and it was made in [XXX] so good chance it was made in 2022 and I could of had one of the faulty grilles. If not GMC still has a problem with upper grilles detaching while driving. I have talked to my dealer and GMC customer satisfaction with no help offered. I have bought a new grille and installed it. Code P1098 came up today 80k on the truck. Coolant Control Valve failure. Second time this has failed, first at 45k. Speed reduction activated.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The "Service Power Steering" message was displayed and ESP warning light was illuminated. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed the vehicle with a short circuit in the module used to control the rack-and-pinion system, which had blown the fuse. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the engine seized, causing the vehicle to stall and lose motive power in the middle of the interstate. The vehicle was unable to restart and was towed by OnStar service. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the dealer.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the front grille shutter detached. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the shutter had detached due to defective retention clips. The contact was informed that the entire front grille assembly needed to be replaced. The dealer associated the failure with a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 123,500.
The front upper grill broke and flew off the truck at highway speeds nearly causing a wreck. Zero previous damage. Simply broke at the connecting points without cause. . Pretty unreasonable for a 75000 dollar truck to have the upper grill just dislocate itself and nearly cause a major wreck at highway speeds
On September 11, 2026, while driving my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate at approximately 70 mph on the Buckman Bridge (US 295 S), the painted upper grille/hood molding located between the hood and the top of the grille suddenly detached from the vehicle. Before I purchased the vehicle, it had sustained damage to the front fascia during transportation/shipping. As part of the repair prior to my purchase, the upper trim piece in this area was replaced by General Motors. To my knowledge, the replacement was performed by GM as part of the pre-delivery repair. The vehicle had not been involved in a collision or impact prior to the failure while I owned it. The component detached while the vehicle was traveling at approximately 70 mph on a bridge and entered active traffic. I was unable to determine what happened to the component after it entered traffic or whether it struck another vehicle. At the time of the incident, I did not initially realize exactly which component had detached. I subsequently determined that the missing part was the painted upper grille/hood molding/front upper grille deflector. I am reporting this because I have since learned that GM issued safety recall N242490120 / NHTSA recall 25V060 for certain 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles involving the front upper grille deflector. That recall describes fracture of the attachment points and the possibility of the deflector completely detaching while the vehicle is being driven. My vehicle is a 2023 model, but the component and reported failure appear substantially similar. The failure occurred at approximately 70 mph and caused a large exterior body component to enter active traffic, creating a potential hazard to other motorists. I am requesting that NHTSA document this incident and investigate whether the defect addressed by recall 25V060 also affects 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, including vehicles in which the upper trim piece had previously been replaced by GM.
Addendum to previous submission # 11760415. At 15,033 mileage again multiple codes present along with a rough running engine. Dealership service dept confirmed on 9/17/2026 verification of 10 active codes , 2 pending codes triggering check engine light. Onstar notification as well of engine issue. Prominently codes P0016 & P0340 lead the list. PICO testing was stated to have failed two out of 3 parameters. Officially stated now as an engine defect which is being directed to be replaced with a remanufactured , not new , motor. Very fortunate to not have experienced dramatic failure ( loss of propulsion ) at highway speeds far from home. Even though this vehicle warning's persisted prior to this ultimate conclusion it was insisted that ultimate failure was necessary before any resolution would be instituted. A safety conundrum if you will. A high probability safety risk of continued use ( based on historical data on this known engine failure risk ) to ‘ prove ‘ it would fail like many others already have. A fair assessment of my personal experience.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH with her children in the rear seats, the top of the chrome front grille detached and damaged the windshield. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE); however, the VIN and the model year was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 51,350.
On several occasions this Saris Superclamp bike rack has dropped from an upright position to a tilted position when there is a bump/dip in the road. A driver following has later reported to me that the rack/bikes falling quickly startled him and led to him braking. The bikes have not fallen from the rack when it drops down but I am concerned about the possibility. I have contacted the manufacturer and they will send me parts to repair if I can provide the original sales slip which I can not find. The part is available for purchase for $200 which is nearly half the cost of the rack. I have communicated to the manufacturer that this defect is a safety hazard and they should rectify the issue at no cost. They have refused.
The truck shut off and would just crank. It threw the code P129F. And wouldn’t start up until after 15 minutes.
On 9-10-26 Engine spun rod bearings per the dealership repair order Miles 52,796 I was towing a car on a car trailer traveling down the interstate when the motor failed. I had my wife in the truck with me. No prior warnings just a check engine light right before engine failed. GMC dealer replaced engine and returned on 9-14-26. The truck had already had the recall to check the engine and replace the oil to a thicker oil.
The upper chrome grille molding fractured at the clips and completely detached at highway speeds, creating a dangerous flying projectile. This is an identical material failure to NHTSA Campaign 25V-060. The defective part or assembly process clearly extends into the 2023 model year.
The front grille trim moulding failed and flew off on the highway. Also, the forward collision light on vehicle from the front camera not working and needing to be replaced.
I was driving down the George W. Bush Highway in Dallas, Texas, and the front top bezel above my grill flew off and went over the top of my truck. I have no idea if it landed safely or damaged other vehicles behind me because I was in very thick traffic. This is extremely dangerous as I could injured people driving behind me potentially impaling someone as I was going 70 mph per the speed limit. Just both are being recalls on the 2022 GMC model of my truck. The dealership refused to fix this for me and quoted me over $500 to get this repaired.
Truck rear wheels locked up while going between 45 - 50 mph nearly causing accident. Driver behind me had to lock-up their breaks to avoid collision. This is happening every time I drive the truck for more than 30 minutes. It is happening multiple times a day now. I cannot drive truck - too unsafe to drive. Tried getting serviced, but local GMC dealer said they are backed up with truck transmission issues and can't get mine in until Sep 15 - 3 weeks after first reporting. No warning signs. The locking of rear wheels takes me by surprise.
Purchased above listed vehicle new in XXX. Immediately noticed a 'coolant' smell in cab. brought vehicle in for coolant smell issue on XXX and XXX. We were told that there was no issue until finally on XXX we were told the radiator needed to be replaced at OUR expense. XXX we received a letter from GMC advising the "engine coolant control valve" may fail. In XXX while driving on mountain roads (we live in [XXX]) the check engine light came on and while at 50 mph, the vehicle went into "limp mode" we lost power and speed was immediately reduced. We now know that a symptom of that valve failure is coolant smell in the cab of the car, a problem we had attempted to address with GMC from the beginning. This vehicle has water intrusion for the power steering harness. The system went out one day. Vehicle has 40K miles on it. i bought it less than a year ago as a used vehicle with 30K miles on it. Less than a year later i end up with a $6,500 bill for it.
A GM warranty engine replacement was performed at Heyward Allen GMC in [XXX] on XXX at 70,415 miles. We purchase the vehicle on XXX with 73,904 miles and after driving for a month started having multiple malfunction indicator lights displaying, and experienced a no start condition. We took the vehicle to the Don Ledford GMC dealer in [XXX], and they performed a high level inspection. They found missing mounting brackets, loose wiring harness wires, broken and missing bolts. Issues all related to an engine replacement procedure. Deeming the vehicle unsafe to operate. The origin dealer that was paid through GMC to replace the engine is now refusing any responsibility for resolving these issues. Technicians have video evidence of the workmanship issues, documenting the sub- par repair work performed during the engine change. The vehicle now sits at the Don Ledford GMC dealer awaiting an estimated $4400 repair, before the vehicle is safe to operate on the road. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the engine made a clunking, knocking, and tapping sound. The engine was driving on seven of the eight cylinders. The contact slowed down and pulled over. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed with a detached valve. The vehicle was repaired under an extended warranty. The dealer informed the contact that the failure might recur. The failure mileage was approximately 12,998.
The 6.2 engine in my truck failed while driving and it has been determine that I need a new motor. This motor was on the recall list. I brought it in for the PICO recall test in October we 2025 and it passed. They then changed the oil for a much more expensive 0w40. The engine failed in August leaving me stranded on side of the highway. It has been at the dealership since August 7th. There is no eta on when the new motor and parts will be available because I’m being told that some parts are on back order. I have looked into trading it in and the value of this truck due to the 6.2 engine recall is significantly lower that it should be. It’s half of what I paid for it 3 years ago. I incurred towing fees and Uber fees. I am no without a truck to tow with.
Hood Molding- While driving down highway 45 doing about 75 miles per hour the hood molding detached on the driver side and started beating against the hood. I was unable to reach and exit before the entire mood flew off and over car. Fortunately, there were no cars right behind me to cause and accident, except an 18-wheeler about 2 cars back and he ran over the molding. I contacted the dealership and GMC, but they said no recall on this issue. There were a recall 25V-060 for the 2022 (production dates NOV 09, 2021 - SEP 29, 2022). My vehicle production date is 08/19/2022 and they could have been using the same material. I feel this the same safety issue: If a front grille deflector detaches unexpectedly while driving, there is increased risk of a crash. The photo was taken when I got to the first exit to see what happen. You can see the clasps just broke off.

The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH and looking in the driver’s side mirror, the contact became aware that an unknown object had detached from the vehicle. The contact was unaware that the chrome front grille deflector had detached until arriving at the residence. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the chrome front grille deflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 48,210.
I am reporting a serious safety concern involving a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, 6.2L L87 V8, VIN [XXX]. This vehicle has now experienced two catastrophic powertrain failures at very low mileage. The first catastrophic engine failure occurred at approximately 23,696 miles. The vehicle was taken to a GMC dealer, where the repair documentation states that the engine had suffered significant internal damage, including damage to the #3 connecting rod, a missing connecting-rod bearing, bearing material throughout the engine, and a scored crankshaft. The dealer determined that the engine was seized and required replacement. GM replaced the engine under warranty with GM engine assembly part number 12740076. The vehicle has now experienced a second catastrophic failure. On [XXX], while traveling approximately 40 mph, experienced grinding, lurching, and knocking, followed by a complete loss of propulsion. The truck would no longer move and had to be towed to a GMC dealer. At the time of the incident, no warning lights or warning messages were observed. The transmission is also suspected to have failed, although the exact cause and extent of the transmission failure have not yet been determined by the dealer. I understand that NHTSA is currently investigating failures involving GM 6.2L L87 engines, including failures occurring after previous recall remedies and engine replacements. I am therefore requesting that this incident be included in NHTSA’s investigation and considered when evaluating the effectiveness of the existing recall remedy and the safety of replacement L87 engines.
