2014 GMC Sierra Denali Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 GMC Sierra Denali, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

DASH CRACKED AT LESS THAN 26000 MILES 4 YEARS OLD

NHTSA ID 11078597 · filed Mar 11, 2018

WHILE DETAILING MY TRUCK ON OCTOBER 30, 2017 I DISCOVERED A CRACK ON THE DASH ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF LONG RUNNING FROM THE TOP LEFT OF THE AIRBAG COVER TOWARDS THE DEFROSTER VENT . TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING ON OCTOBER 31, 2017 AND THEY STATED TO CONTACT GMC CARES THAT THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. I CALLED GMC THEY STATED THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ON MY MAKE AND MODEL TRUCK. THEY STATED THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT THE DEALER AND HAVE THE DEALER CONTACT GMC. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CONTACT GMC. AFTER DOING A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT GMC HAS BEEN AWARE OF AND IS NOT FIXING AND APPARENTLY THIS WILL ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE AS TIME GOES BY. THE SAFETY CONCERN I HAVE IS IT SO CLOSE TO THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THAT IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS IN A CRASH WILL CAUSE SHARDS OF BROKEN DASH TO FLY AROUND IN THE CAB INJURING THE PASSENGERS..

CHROME WHEEL CORROSION. CRITICAL LOCATION AROUND VALVE STEM CREATING AIR LEAK IN VALVE STEM. COULD CREATE LOW ENOUGH PRESSURE TO EFFECT HANDLING IN EMERGENCY SITUATION. LUCKILY MINE WAS A SLOW LEAK, BUT THE ONLY FIX IS WHEEL REPLACEMENT AT EXTREME COST AND A LENGTHY REPLACEMENT PROCESS LEAVING THE OWNER WITH CHOICE OF UNSAFE USE, OR LOSING USE OF THE VEHICLE DURING THE PROCESS. INITIAL FIRST AID WAS TO CLEAN THE STEM HOLE OF CORROSION, USE A SEALANT AROUND THE NEW VALVE STEM, WITH NO GUARANTEE OF A SAFE FIX AND AN UPCOMING 2 WEEK TRIP TO UPPER ONTARIO CANADA IN FULLY LOADED VEHICLE.
