2008 GMC W3500 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WE RENTED A 16 FOOT BOX TRUCK IN ILLINOIS TO TRAVEL TO MA FROM BUDGET RENTAL TRUCKS AKA AVIS. WE CALCULATED THE TIME OF THE TRIP TO BE APPROXIMATELY 18 HOURS. WE HAD LEFT CHICAGO AT 3:00PM AND DECIDED TO DRIVE TILL AROUND MIDNIGHT. WE HAD DRIVEN 9 HOURS. WE SPENT THE NIGHT AT A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS IN OHIO. WE HAD 9 MORE HOURS THE FOLLOWING DAY TO DRIVE. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 7 HOURS WHEN OUR TRUCK WENT INTO A TERRIBLE CONDITION, AND THE BRAKES FAILED VIOLENTLY AND WE WERE LOSING CONTROL GOING DOWN A 4% GRADE OF 5 MILES OF A MOUNTAIN TO GET SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. THEY SENT OUT A SERVICE COMPANY 30 HOURS LATER TO TELL US IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER AND HE COULD NOT FIX IT. WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF DRIVING ANOTHER BUDGET TRUCK. WE THEN RECEIVED ANOTHER TRUCK AFTER THEY UNLOADED THE FIRST TRUCK AND THEN LOADED THE NEW TRUCK. MY BROTHER NOTICED WHEN WE PULLED OVER TO A TA STATION THAT THE CAR WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE TRAILER THAT WE WERE PULLING. THEREFORE THE MOVERS THEY SENT OUT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY ATTACH A CAR TO A TRAILER THAT COULD OF LED TO US LOOSING THE VEHICLE ONTO AN INTERSTATE WITH TRAFFIC AND CAUSING SERIOUS ISSUES FOR OTHER COMPUTERS ON THE ROAD. *TR

Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
