2022 GMC Yukon Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH with her family inside the vehicle, there was an abnormal tapping sound coming from the engine compartment, with the traction control and Forward Collision Avoidance warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the "Service ESC", "Forward Collision Avoidance System Unavailable", and "Service Traction Control" flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the gaskets, bolts, rods, lifters, camshaft valve, valve actuator, and engine seals needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

On 5/22/2025, I filed a complaint with NHTSA, complaint number 11662650. In the complaint, I reported issues regarding safety concerns that began around October 2023 and were shortly after reported to GMC. Some of the reported issues were concerns with oil consumption due to warning lights coming on; parking warning sensors intermittently coming on; and what appears to be suspension issues as there continues to be a knocking, cracking, and snapping noise coming from the front suspension when making a left or right turn, along with a bumping when in motion, among other issues such as Infotertainment that continues to be an issue. Recently, we took our SUV to a GMC authorized dealer since it was still under warranty and these issues continued to persist and it is getting worse. The vehicle was left around 5/28/25 and picked up on 6/17/25. However, less than a couple of weeks after, we started experiencing the same issues with the suspension as the knocking, cracking, snapping, and bumping is getting more obvious and worse, and it appears is affecting the steering and alignment of the SUV. Please update this information as there is a major concern with safety of the vehicle. Attached are some of the service records related to these issues. Should you need any additional information, please advise. Thank you.

My wife and I purchased a new 2022 Yukon around July 4, 2022. The vehicle came with a 36k or 3 years warranty. Around October 2023, we experienced several safety concern issues with the SUV and around 11/01/23, we reported these issues to a GMC dealer. Around 11/01/23, we took our SUV for service at an approved GMC dealer and reported issues with the steering suspension such as a knocking, snapping, and cracking sound when making a turn, and a bumping when making a U-turn or left turn into a parking spot. We also reported issues with the parking and key sensors. We were informed the issue was fixed and that some suspension bolts were loosed and needed to be torqued. On 1/29/24, we took the SUV back for some of these same reasons after other dealers declined to take our SUV under warranty. Once more, the issue was temporarily fixed. We have now scheduled another appointment for these same reasons of knocking, cracking, and bumping when coming from the front suspension and when making a turn or U-turn. In addition, we are now experiencing oil warning lights for a second time as oil comsumption. We believe these are serious safety issues, especially with any potential failure of the suspension under rain, fog conditions, and the lack of resolution and wonder if other similar issues have been reported or experienced by similar drivers of these vehicles. Attached find copies of the work orders. Should you need any additional information, please advise. Thank you.

We were driving down the interstate at around 70mph and without warning - the vehicle shut off. The engine stopped running and the vehicle put itself in Neutral. The headlights and electrical all shut off and the only message on the display was to push start to restart the vehicle. Luckily, we were able to safely maneuverer out of traffic without being hit by other vehicles. Our vehicle was able to be restarted once we came to a complete stop and put the car in park. We are having he vehicle towed to our local GMC dealer to have it evaluated. The issue only happened one time.

[XXX] while driving on [XXX] myself and my family in our 2022 yukon 6 lane highway 65 mph the engine lost power with no warning at all and left us with no power steering ,or brakes. This was in heavy traffic with other vehicles on our right and left side. I was able to put 4 way on and carefully move to the right lane and then barely to the burm. Vehicle would not restart and the sound of it was of rattle and groan. yukon was towed to the nearest dealer and we were told it was a bad engine of either bearings or rods. We were very lucky to not having an accident and harm my family or other persons on the highway. When a new engine was installed it ran for ony 15 minutes and also was defective for the same issue. Vehicle was returned to us on 12/14/24 and we were denied any additional warranty. At this point i have no confidence in the vehicle or General Motors. We took a financial loss when we traded the vehicle because of the major problems thru no fault of ours. The dealer would offer nothing as far as extending the warranty nor would GMC customer service that we filed a formal complaint # [XXX]. On January 21, 2024, my family and I went to lunch. As we proceeded to leave to return home when I pressed the brake the braking system, traction system, and forward collision systems all failed simultaneously, causing me to be unable to stop the vehicle which caused it to go through a stop sign while the brakes were fully depressed. Luckily, we were still in a parking lot, traveling only 5 MPH. There was no oncoming traffic as we rolled through the stop sign. The following Error Messages Displayed on the Dash Info Screen Brake System Failure 43 MPH Top Speed, Forward Collision System Unavailable, Service Traction Control, Service Brake Pad Monitor There was no warning from the display prior to trying to stop the vehicle that indicated there were any issues with the brakes. It wasn’t until I depressed the brake that I realized that the braking system was in total failure. After safely allowing the truck to roll to a stop, I turned the engine off, and then back on to see if that would reengage the brakes, but it did not resolve the issue. At that point I called an Uber to take my family home and a tow truck to transport my vehicle to my local dealer, Barker Motor Company. My fear is that this could have happened while we were on the highway traveling faster than 5MPH in traffic, which could have been potentially fatal. After having my vehicle for a week to identify and repair the brake issue, was unable to identify the specific cause of the brake failure to repair and could not insure me that the brakes would not fail again. Instead, the technician replaced the battery in response to a low voltage code that showed in the DTC report. However, he could not provide an answer as to how that could have been connected to the total brake failure.

The heads up display starting with the 2022 model removed the colored lane departure warning from the sides of the road graphic that is in line with the road and moved it to a very small display to the left side of the driver's field of view. Now to see the lane departure warning requires a shift of the driver's view to the left and a head tilt if wearing progression bifocals. On prior year models the colored warning provided an early alert well before the seat vibrates as the warning. Taking my vision off the road caused me to come up on a very slow moving car that required the automatic braking to slow my vehicle

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
