TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FXDI MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. THE FUEL LEVEL LOWERED AND FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE SPARK PLUG WIRES, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE CHECK VALVE/ PIT COCK. THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,200.

TL*- THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL FOR 2004 HARLEY DAVIDSON SUPER GLIDE FXDI CONCERNING THE THROTTLE CABLE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE MOTORCYCLE TO DEALER ON 12/27/06, AND WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE GAS TANK OR GAS CABLE. PRESENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP HAS THE MOTORCYCLE, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED AUTHORIZATION FROM HARLEY TO GET THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAS CALLED THE MANUFACTURE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP DID CALL HIM 01/09/06, AND TOLD HIM TO COME PICK UP THE MOTORCYCLE, BECAUSE ITS WILL TAKE 8 WEEKS BEFORE THE PART CAME IN. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE COULD RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE, BUT WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT HE SHOULD NOT RIDE HIS BIKE UNTIL THE RECALLED PARTS WERE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WILL NOT BE PICKING HIS BIKE UP BECAUSE HE KNOWS THIS BIKE IN NOT SAFE TO RIDE. UPDATED 02/22/07. *JB

SERVICE BULLETIN M1684: MARKET SPECIFIC BATTERY INTRODUCTION. PURPOSE: Initial Release. This bulletin informs dealers of the availability of new batteries for new Original Equipment (OE) vehicle production and in the Parts and Accessories (P&A) catalog. Availability of the new Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries will vary by market and will be transitioning over the next few months. NOTE: The ring terminal screws are not compatible between Leoch and East Penn batteries. The new batteries will include new ring terminal screws, which must be used. The ring terminal screws from the old battery need to be discarded.
