Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data
Data refreshed
Our database contains 5 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2007 Harley-Davidson Vrscaw, most frequently naming the fuel system category. 4 manufacturer communications are on file.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
When owners filed reports about this model year
Not enough dated records to plot a meaningful trend — 3 months of data.
Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
No recalls in our database for this model year
That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT. FUEL GAUGE POINTER WON'T MOVE,STUCK ON 1/4 TANK. *TR
GAS GAUGE IS WORTHLESS. ALWAYS READS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. *TR
THIS IS PERTAINING TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT/FUEL GAUGE ON A 2007 VRSCAW. GAUGE STARTED ACTING ERRATIC AT ABOUT 2000 MILES. AFTER FILL WOULD READ FINE AND THEN ABOUT 3/4 TO 1/2 TANK I WOULD SLOWLY SEE THE NEEDLE DROP TO EMPTY AND THEN RAISE BACK UP TO WHATEVER IT CHOSE. HAD SENDING UNIT REPLACED WITH WHAT THE CURRENT REVISION WAS AT THE TIME. WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2000 TO 3000 MILES AND DID THE SAME THING. AS OF NOW, THERE IS NO NEW REVISION. THIS IS A FUEL GAUGE, SOMETHING THAT VEHICLES HAVE HAD FOR DECADES, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
FUEL GAUGE FAULTY ,CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF FUEL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION,THIS HAPPENS EVERY PERIODICALLY WHEN I RIDE THE BIKE ,AND HARLEY DAVIDSON DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF MY HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE, THE FAULTY FUEL GAUGE CHRONICALLY DISPLAYS HIGHER LEVEL OF FUEL THAN WHAT IS REALLY THERE. FAILURE OCCURS MORE TIMES THAN NOT. I HAD THE FUEL SENDING UNIT (SONAR) REPLACED USING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH COST ME $50 OUT OF POCKET. THE NEW DEVICE WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. HD HAS UPDATED THE PART NUMBER (3X), BUT NO ACTUAL REPAIR OR CORRECTION TO THE FAULTY UNIT DEVELOPED. LATEST "FIX" INSTALLS AN ALGORITHM THAT PREVENTS THE FUEL LEVEL FROM REGISTERING UNLESS THE BIKE IS RUNNING AND IN MOTION. STILL DOES NOT WORK. CURRENT "UPDATED" PART IS IN MY MOTORCYCLE AND IS FAULTY & AVAILABLE. I AM ONE OF OVER 1000 PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE. (1130CC.COM) RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AT 80MPH ON A BUSY PUBLIC HIGHWAY EVEN THOUGH YOUR FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYS YOU HAVE 1/4 TANK LEFT IS NOT FUN. EVEN WORSE WHEN YOU ARE IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES SINCE OWNING THE BIKE. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS MARCH 2010. *TR
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

ENGINE
Noise from the cam chest area possibly accompanied by milky engine oil. Moisture can cause slight swelling in the tensioner causing it to stick in the housing. A vehicle that makes repeated short trips can have this condition because the engine does not reach normal operating temperatures, allowing condensation and moisture to build up in the engine oil.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
