2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I am reporting two safety-related issues with my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid. 1. Head Gasket Failure At approximately 93,500 miles, the head gasket failed without any prior warning signs. The vehicle had been regularly maintained at Honda dealerships, with one service done by a third-party mechanic around 87,000 miles. There were no engine warning lights or coolant leak warnings before the incident. The engine temperature warning suddenly appeared while driving, and I immediately stopped the car. A Honda dealership confirmed the head gasket failure and quoted over $4,000 for repairs. This kind of major engine failure is highly unusual for such a new vehicle and raises serious concerns about long-term engine durability or possible design flaws in the cooling system or head gasket components. 2. False Activation of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) The vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system frequently activates or issues a warning while driving, even when there are no obstacles or vehicles nearby. This has happened multiple times and creates a sudden sense of panic, increasing the risk of being rear-ended or losing control of the vehicle. Both issues suggest potential safety defects in this model. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate whether similar complaints have been reported for the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid, as these failures could pose significant safety risks.

Honda is using cheap brake pads/rotors on their cars. I was parked and went in reverse and the brake pads started squealing so loudly, something didn’t seem right. I’ve never heard this sound before and my family hasn’t either who’ve owned many cars before. I took it to the dealership and they were able to reproduce the sound. They said nothing could be done even though the brake pads are too thick. This seems to happen when it’s humid, raining or cold. The dealership didn’t really care but this seems like a hazard. I’ve read on forums and researched online that this is a very common issue and nothing is being done to fix it. A recall should be issue because this can be a road hazard.

Touch screen on console has lots of ghost-touches in warm weather operating conditions. The audio screen keeps switching from FM to USB MP3 player, and goes into settings or prompts for factory reset while driving, and without touching it. Also, Android AutoPlay navigation keeps jumping around on the map, and giving excessive warnings for next turn, without touching it. This is an EXTREME driver distraction, esp. while trying to use navigation. Local dealer was not able to reproduce in their shop on a cool day. They told me they had 12 other complaints of this issue, and no fix available from Honda, as of Oct. 2025.

NHTSA ID 11691443 · filed Oct 5, 2025

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The infotainment touchscreen is malfunctioning. It registers false inputs “ghost touches” without any user interaction. Yes, the vehicle and affected screen are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The ghost touches cause the screen to randomly change menus, activate or deactivate features, and make it difficult to use navigation, audio, and android auto with maps. This creates distraction while driving, as I have to focus on regaining control of the screen instead of the road, putting myself and others at risk. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue has not yet been officially confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, but it is recurring and can be demonstrated on demand. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The infotainment system has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or others. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages were displayed. The issue first appeared recently (8/2025) and has recurred intermittently since then.

On second week of February, 2026, I was driving my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid from Elkridge, Maryland to North Beach, the car lost power with a flickering Check Engine Light on. I managed to drive between 25-30 MPH on 55 MPH Highway to my local Honda dealership. The diagnosed the lost power to HEAD GASKET failure. I did some research and found that NHTSA has issued a part collection on Head Gasket Failure on 2018-2022 Honda Accord Hybrid. The NHTSA ID: MC-11009200. I paid over $5,000 to replace the Head Gasket. I think these model years should be recalled.

Low tire pressure issues keep recurring. I noticed this since the day I bought the car. They told me that they had fixed it and this issue keep recurring. So far I have had to bring my car back for service at least 4 times since I bought it in 2022. This is a new car! I don't expect to keep having the same issue. I am not satisfied with the service at Hersons Honda service. Bad business. Please help me investigate the problem. Thank you very much. The first time (approximate date) you noticed this issue. The first time I noticed this problem was in December last year when I felt that the steering wheel slowly turned to the left with a little bit of Sticky, Stiff, Jerky, and then the steering wheel was adsorbed on the highway, and the resistance was great, so I needed to adjust the steering wheel back and forth, which greatly affected driving safety. This seems to be related to my personal safety. Until now, in February 2023, the problem has always existed and has not been solved. The first time (approximate date) you visited the dealer for this concern. I visited the dealer on February 8, 2023, but the answer they gave was normal and no problem. The last time (approximate date) you visited the dealer for this concern. The last time I visited the dealer was on the morning of February 11, 2023. I used to pick up my car. My car was parked at the dealer on February 8, but the problem was not solved. I still need to use the vehicle. I can't work without the car. I delayed my work, so I went to pick up my car on the morning of February 11. How often does this issue happen within a time frame (e.g.once a month)? This problem happens every day, and there will always be problems with the steering wheel as long as I start driving. I am now afraid of driving this problematic car. It does not give me safety. The car I bought last June has such a serious problem in the past seven months. Where is the reliability of Honda vehicles? Can I still trust the safe and reliable driving quality that Honda brings me? The name & title of the person (s) assisting you at the dealer. The reason/explanation provided by the dealer, as to what caused this issue. The dealer told me that there was no problem and could not be copied, indicating that the steering system was normal and no problem was found. But I asked the service manager Post my video about the problem of turning the steering wheel Sticky, Stiff, Jerky https://www.youtube.

My vehicle has fuel injector issues and Honda refuses to repair under manufacturers warranty although it's a safety issue and defects in their products . When my vehicle starts it misfires and causes the vehicle to go in limp mode disabling all safety features. No airbags or brakes etc . If these thousands of vehicles remain on the road it's not safe to drive. The vehicle stalls in the middle of roadways making it dangerous for everyone due to Honda bad quality control. Thank you for your consideration

Today on May 13th 2023 I was driving on LIE 495 freeway with my wife. All of sudden we heard the explosion and could hear the air noise from the sunroof. We pulled vehicle on the side and found out glass was broken and there wasn’t any rock or any other object which could cause the damage. We think it’s quality of the glass which could not resonate the heat and pressure could have caused.

Purchased 2022 Honda Hybrid Touring new rear tires with only 32000 miles completely destroyed by cupping to the interior started noticing significant wobble to rear on highway. Many forums discussing this issue with other Honda Accords this could result in a blow out at speed, many forums people have replaced tires some up to three sets a year somethings wrong and this could result in a fatal collision if left unsolved. I am diligent with tire inflation pressure and inspecting tires this is concerning have not seen tires wear out this fast. Has to be a rear suspension defect for many people to be experiencing this all you have to do is google the issue.
