Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ON AUGUST 20, 2008 I TOOK MY BRAND NEW MOTOR SCOOTER Q LINK SIENNA 150 - 2008 (3 MILES MILEAGE) FOR A SHORT RIDE. WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I HAD WHAT I FOUND OUT TO BE A "TANK SLAPPER" - WOBBLE WHEEL ACCIDENT. NEVER HAD I OR MY INSURANCE COMPANY BEEN AWARE THIS LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR. I FOUND OUT FROM THE SERVICE MANAGE OF MONTGOMERY CYCLE WHERE I PURCHASED THE SCOOTER, AFTER GIVING HIM ALL THE DETAILS HE SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE I HAD A "TANK SLAPPER", AND INDEED I DID. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS THE LACK OF FULL AND FAIR DISCLOSURE AND LACK OF EDUCATION TO THE PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY UPON PURCHASE, HAD NOT BEEN MADE TO ME. HAD I BEEN AWARE THIS WAS A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF A MOTORCYCLE AND/OR MOTOR SCOOTER, I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WITH GAS PRICES CAUSING THE SALE OF MOTOR SCOOTERS TO RAPIDLY RISE, THERE MOST BE MORE REGULATIONS AND INFORMED LANGUAGE BEFORE THE PURCHASE OF THESE VEHICLES. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE HAD ONLY THE INJURIES THAT I DID, TRUST ME, IT WAS LIKE I HIT BLACK ICE, THERE WAS NO CONTROLLING THAT SCOOTER, IT WAS LIKE IT HAD A LIFE OF IT'S OWN, THEN, GAS POURED OUT. I FELT COMPELLED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I AM PLANNING ON CONTACTING MY CONGRESSMAN AS WELL. I THANK-YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THE REGARDS OF THIS SERIOUS ROAD THREAT. SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS, I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR INFORMING THEM OF MY INFORMATION HERE AND THEY HAVE MY PERMISSION TO CONTACT ME, ANY ARTICLES WOULD ALSO BE WELCOME. HOWEVER, MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE FULL AND FAIR DISCLOSURE TO THE CONSUMER, INSURANCE COMPANY'S INPUT ON THIS, AND/OR WHAT IS BEING DONE TO GET THIS DANGEROUS WARNING OUT TO THE PUBLIC? I LIVE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY IN PENNSYLVANIA AND I AM AN EXPERIENCED RECREATIONAL VEHICLE DRIVER, TO THE POINT I WAS DRIVING TRACTORS, SCOOTERS, MOPEDS, AND MOTORCYCLES ON THE FARM AT 12 YEARS OF AGE, I AM NOW 61, SO, INEXPERIENCE WAS NOT THE PROBLEM HERE. *TR

Until that time, the existing acknowledgement procedure must be used for all potentially affected vehicles.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
