2025 Honda CR-V Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his wife was pulling into a parking space, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and crashed into the condo building. The contact confirmed that the brakes were applied during the failure, but the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The safety features failed to engage, and the seat belt detached. A bystander testified that the driver was not speeding. The message "Take The vehicle to Dealer for service" was displayed. The driver sustained bruises, but medical assistance was not received. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire or airbag deployment. The vehicle remained at the scene. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 20,790.

As I was pulling into a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated, ran through bushes, down a slope across a sidewalk hitting a city utility box. and jumped the curb finally stopping on the street. no other vehicles were involved and no injuries. I did not report at the time of the incident, because I thought I must have done something wrong. However a similar event occurred on May 29, 2026 (See Complaint #11743489) which leads me to believe there may be a defect in the car.

As I was pulling into a parking space inside a parking structure, ground floor, my car suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb, going through landscape hedge and landing on front hood of a parked vehicle outside of the parking structure. I heard the engine accelerate, but had no way of stopping or controlling the car. A very similar accident took place in this car on [XXX]. Same situation: pulling into a parking space, car suddenly accelerates; no way to stop vehicle in time to avoid accident. When starting the car up and backing out of my garage It sounds like my rotors or brakes are grinding I took it to the dealer, and they told me that that was standard on the 2025 CRV. It is grinding so loud and hard like it is cutting into the rotors. I need someone to take responsibility. My car is only less than one year old.It will be one year on 2/20/2026. This is my seventh c r v and i've never had this problem before.

On December 29, 2025, while pulling into a parking space, my Honda CRV Hybrid unexpectedly accelerated in spite of my foot being firmly on the brake. The unintended acceleration resulted in a collision with the vehicle that was parked in front of my vehicle. The security video footage shows clearly that my brake lights were consistently on during the collision. My braking system clearly did not work. My vehicle collided with the vehicle parked in front of it, moved that vehicle to the side and continued moving forward over a parking lot curb and came to a stop. If someone had been in front of my vehicle, they would have been seriously injured if not dead. There were no warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to the unintended acceleration. My vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and the manufacturer and they could not reproduce the problem. This is the most concerning aspect of the situation. They want me to take the vehicle back and to continue driving it when there is clearly a problem.

Approximate Mileage on Car: 26500 Make/Model/Trim: Honda CRV Hybrid Sport-L Location: Manheim and Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania Date of Incident: 1/17/26 Weather: Light snow, under 3", mostly plowed/salted surfaces While driving in light snowy road conditions, the vehicle failed to decelerate appropriately when the brake pedal was firmly applied. The driver was operating the vehicle cautiously and at reduced speeds under 20mph, appropriate for winter conditions. Snow accumulation was less than approximately 3 inches, and the roads were mostly plowed and treated with salt. Despite firm brake application, there was no noticeable ABS pulsing or vibration, and the vehicle continued to slide forward with minimal reduction in speed, right through a stop sign and then again at a 4-way traffic light intersection. Both times, the braking response felt delayed or ineffective, resulting in a significantly extended stopping distance. Steering control while braking was limited, leading to fishtailing and spinning across the road. This did not feel like normal loss of traction or typical ABS engagement. The behavior was unexpected given the relatively moderate road conditions and the cautious driving behavior. No warning lights were immediately displayed during the incident. The experience felt like a loss of effective braking capability in winter conditions, creating a serious safety concern. This condition increases the risk of collision due to the inability to stop the vehicle as expected, even when driven cautiously in moderately snowy, plowed, and salted road conditions. A driver has no reliable way to compensate when braking response is inconsistent or delayed. The vehicle is marketed as AWD and suitable for adverse weather conditions. The braking behavior was inconsistent with expectations and with prior vehicles driven by the driver under similar winter conditions for over 40 years.

The vehicle experienced an unintended acceleration in which it unexpectedly increased speed without any input from the driver. At no point was the gas pedal depressed, yet the vehicle accelerated on its own. This sudden and uncommanded movement occurred without warning and was inconsistent with normal vehicle operation, leaving the driver with no intentional control over the acceleration. Following this incident, the manufacturer was contacted; however, despite ongoing attempts to communicate over the past six months, there has been no meaningful correspondence or demonstrated urgency from the manufacturer to investigate or resolve the issue.

While pulling into a parking spot and coming to a stop, the brakes failed and the car abruptly accelerated forward despite attempts to continue braking. The car proceeded over the curb and raised hilly grassy median and only came to a stop when it collided with a parked vehicle on the other side of the median. I, as the driver, had no control of the vehicle and could have potentially hit a pedestrian in this parking lot. There was a person seated in the car that my car impacted and she could have been hurt as well as myself and my passenger. All of this was reported to the community service officer who came to the scene, as well as to the Coggin collision center, Coggin Honda dealership and my insurance company. My insurance company has sent an appraiser to the collision center but he did not investigate the causative factors, only the body damage so far. There were no warning lamps or messages and the airbags did not deploy despite frontal impact. The car is currently at the Honda Collision center and would be available for inspection.

At approximately 6:00 PM on December 29, 2025, I was parking my vehicle in the Montague Foods parking lot at 8761 Ferry St in Montague, MI 49437. As I was pulling into the parking space, I had firm pressure on the brake pedal and was not pressing the accelerator. Despite braking, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward unexpectedly. The vehicle struck the parked car in front of me with such force that it moved the large SUV, bounced off, and continued to lurch forward repeatedly. While I was actively trying to stop the vehicle with the brake pedal, it continued moving forward, ran over a curb, and behaved in an uncontrolled, bucking manner. I would describe the experience as similar to a bucking bronco. During the incident, I was yelling, “What is happening?!?” due to the unexpected and frightening behavior of the vehicle. At no point during this incident was the accelerator pedal pressed. No warning lights, alerts, or messages appeared on the dashboard before or during the event that I can recall. Both my vehicle and the parked vehicle sustained damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries. This incident raises serious concerns about the braking, acceleration, or vehicle control systems in this model. I believe this represents a significant and serious safety risk not only to the driver of the vehicle but also pedestrians and other vehicles. I am afraid to drive the car again. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue to determine whether it represents a vehicle defect affecting safety, and require Honda to issue any necessary recall or remedy needed

The braking system failed. As I was attempting to park my car, with my foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward unexpectedly, hitting the parked car in front of me. Both my vehicle and the parked vehicle were damaged. If anyone had been in the car's path, they would have been injured. My vehicle bounced off the parked car and continued lurching forward while I actively tried to stop the car by applying the brake. At no point during this incident was the accelerator pressed. No warning lights, alerts, or messages appeared on the dashboard before or during the event. Have not yet taken my vehicle to the Honda dealer.

After stopping the car I shut off the engine while the gear/selector was still in D (Drive). The car began rolling forward since the driveway has a slope. My car hit the car parked before my car. The front bumper has been damaged. Later. I've checked several times this situation: If engine shuts off while selector is in D, the vehicle rolls instead of holding on a slope. This is a serious safety issue! Many driveways have slopes.

The brake system on my 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid produces a pronounced creaking and groaning noise when releasing the brake pedal from a stop, especially on steep slopes. The issue becomes significantly louder when the vehicle is carrying more passengers/full luggage. This noise is distracting to the driver, particularly in stop-and-go traffic and on inclines and reduces confidence in safe braking performance. The condition creates a risk of delayed reaction or loss of focus while driving. The dealership was able to reproduce the noise during testing [only flat road/parking] but dismissed it as “characteristic.” However, the noise in my vehicle is noticeably louder than other CR-V Hybrids. The issue was not tested under the full conditions I described (steep slope and full load). I have driven another 2025 CR-V Hybrid (owned by a friend), and it does not exhibit any such issue. The problem has been present since shortly after purchase and continues to worsen. There are no warning lamps or diagnostic messages associated with the condition. I have all documented noise in video format - available to share on request. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Unintended acceleration. On August 8, 2025, Honda C-RV Hybrid 2025 (sport touring) accelerated into a wall without the driver touching the gas pedal. The vehicle is deemed a constructive total loss by the insurance carrier. Since it can’t be driven, we are unable to reproduce the problem. A case is open with Honda since the date of the accident; however, there is no urgency to move the case forward.

This braking issue happened on 4 occasions. While in stop and go traffic I would be braking, nursing the brakes the car would take over and slam me to a complete stop. It would not go again until I hit the gas. On two of those occasions the car behind me had to move into the nxt lane or over to the shoulder. The last time the seatbelt caught me so hard I had shoulder and neck pain for about 3 weeks (I work in rehab so my co workers worked on my neck and shoulders)I did take it to Honda after the first two incidences and they said there was nothing wrong, that’s just how the sensors are. I asked if the sensors could be turned off and they replied No. After the last incident where my shoulder and neck got hurt and the poor guy behind me almost hit the wall on the shoulder, I went the next day and traded it in. I lost my 5K that I put down and the car depreciated by several thousand in 4mos but it was not worth driving it and ending up in a major accident with major injuries to myself or another driver.

Stiff brake pedal when trying to start the vehicle, happens intermittently. Purchased 6-4-25, repeatedly complained to DARCARS of Bowie soon after the purchase of the vehicle. The issue is still happening to this present day. Each time the issue was raised, the situation was completely ignored. No inspection was performed before the purchase of this vehicle. On 6-25-25 after repeated attempts to have the vehicle looked at, the vehicle was taken in for service and nothing was done, brake pedal still stiffens on and off. On 6-30-25, made one more attempt to have the vehicle looked at. Vehicle is currently in the shop.

My wife was driving our 2025 Honda CRV on [XXX] when suddenly the car turned off, there were no brakes, and was unable to steer. This happened while driving - moving - She was able to stop, turned the car off, then started the car again. She parked the car in a parking garage, and called the Honda dealership in Manassas, VA. The technician told her to NOT drive the car and have it towed to their dealership - which we did the same day. The car only has 6,000 miles on it. There was a previous recall on this vehicle for steering issues - we brought it to he dealership then and was presumably was repaired. This was a very dangerous, life threatening incident. Honda is supposedly going to fix this - hopefully - but what is my recourse, and should we drive this car? Will Honda provide us with a new car that has no issues or recalls? Please advise. Vehicle has under 5000 miles. On 4 separate drives, the warning light came on for the COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM. The warning message told me to go to the dealer. The second time it came on the car made a false brake (there was no car in front of me) I have taken it to the dealer twice and left it with them. The first time they could not find anything wrong and told me to come back if it happened again. The second time they said my sensors may have been dirty and that's why they came on. The third and fourth time my sensors are clean and the message still appeared. I am worried that The automatic braking system can cause an accident by breaking when it shouldn't.
