2019 Honda Pilot Fuel system Problems

Left home driving 5 min down the road the car suddenly started hiccuping as to power I almost wrecked it recovered but started again …was a prime example of that fuel pump issue …i turned around drove home barely made it going slow …smelling a low grade sweetish burning smell…made it home checked and found this recall online of the fuel pump issue…called dealership asked to get this fixed they told me I had to get it there they would not provide a tow and the recall issue has made it unsafe to drive…the problem is their fault and now I am expected to to pay 200 to get there…they should tow and fix… they also would not cover a loaner I’m out transportation for days and this has caused all sorts of issues as I have to get to work etc…

I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2019 Honda Pilot after experiencing a failure of the fuel rail assembly that resulted in the check engine light illuminating and required repair at my own expense. My vehicle exhibited the same symptoms and was diagnosed with the same fuel rail issue that is described in Honda’s existing recall for certain 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles. However, when I contacted Honda, I was informed that my VIN was not included within the recall population, despite my vehicle experiencing the identical failure. The fuel rail failure caused the check engine light to illuminate and required replacement of the defective fuel rail. Because my vehicle was excluded from the recall, Honda declined to cover the repair, and I was forced to pay the full cost out of pocket. I believe this demonstrates that the defect is not limited to the VIN range identified in the recall. My vehicle experienced the exact condition addressed by Honda’s recall, yet I received no assistance solely because my VIN was not included. Owners of vehicles with the same defect should not be responsible for repair costs simply because their vehicle falls outside the current recall range. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the recall population should be expanded to include additional 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles affected by this same fuel rail defect and that Honda reimburse owners who have paid for repairs related to this safety issue.

Fuel started to pour from under the vehicle above the gas tank. The seal on the fuel pump was causing this when the vehicle was turned on. The fuel pump was on recall for this failure and the vehicle was towed to the Honda AutoNation Dealership in Mobile, AL. While there the franchise dealership executed Safety Recall 21-034 on my 2019 Honda Pilot; the fuel pump. The technician then sent us a video saying the fuel pump did not fix the problem as a rodent had chewed through the fuel line near the fuel pump above the gas tank. He did not show an image of this damage nor produce evidence of rodents. During the repair, the technician mechanically damaged the high-pressure fuel line. The line subsequently continues to leak gas under pressure, creating an immediate engine fire hazard. The dealer then falsified paperwork blaming rodents to escape liability. This is evident by the crescent shaped slice through the fuel line. I have video proof showing the difference in fuel leaks from the pump and then from the sliced fuel line.

The fuel injectors have been diagnosed by my local dealership with all the appropriate codes referencing the following extended warranty bulletin issued by Honda for the repair of all 6 fuel injectors and related parts to be installed free of charge. Honda issued a warranty extension for the 2019 Honda Pilot fuel injectors under Service Bulletin 20-100. ​Warranty Coverage Details ​Expiration Point: The warranty is extended to 10 years from the original date of purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. ​Condition: The vehicle must display a Malfunction Indicator Light (Check Engine Light) with specific stored fuel-system error codes (such as P0300 through P0306, P0420, P0430, P219A, or P219B). ​How to Get Coverage or File a Claim ​1. If Your Vehicle Needs Repair Now ​Take your vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership. They will scan the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). The parts kit for repair is $479.00 dollars and labor quoted was $895.00. I simply cant afford this vital repair as its also causing safety issues and business loss as a delivery and rishare driver. I am submitting this complaint regarding a fuel injector failure and emissions system malfunction in my 2019 Honda Pilot. At the time of the failure, the vehicle had approximately 94,693 miles and had been routinely maintained. On [XXX], while traveling from Ohio to Pennsylvania with my family, the vehicle displayed an "Emission System Problem" warning and illuminated the check engine light. The vehicle was diagnosed by Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The dealership found DTC P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) and performed an air/fuel ratio test. According to the dealership, four of the six cylinders were running rich due to excessive fuel delivery. The dealership recommended replacement of the fuel injectors, and all six fuel injectors were replaced. The injector repair cost approximately $1,100. The dealership advised that possible causes included internal fuel injector failure or carbon buildup but could not provide a definitive explanation for the failure. Neither the dealership nor Honda could explain why my vehicle was excluded from Honda's fuel injector warranty extension despite exhibiting the same symptoms and requiring the same repair associated with that program. I was advised that the warranty extension applies only to certain VINs produced during specific manufacturing periods and facilities. However, my vehicle experienced the same failure pattern, including a rich-running condition, emissions-system warning, catalyst-efficiency diagnostic code, and replacement of the fuel injectors. While researching the issue, I reviewed NHTSA complaints involving 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles. Numerous complaints describe similar fuel injector failures, emissions-system warnings, catalyst-efficiency codes, and injector replacements. Based on the number of similar complaints, the affected vehicle population may extend beyond the VIN range currently covered by Honda's warranty extension. Vehicle: 2019 Honda Pilot VIN: [XXX] My 2019 Honda Pilot is experiencing an "Emissions System Problem" accompanied by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P219A (Air-Fuel Ratio Imbalance). This defect causes engine hesitation, rough idling, and a severe risk of sudden loss of motive power or engine stalling while driving at highway speeds, presenting a significant safety hazard to myself and other motorists. American Honda is fully aware of this manufacturing defect. They issued Service Bulletins 20-100 and 21-010 extending the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for this exact code and symptom on 2017–2019 Honda Pilots due to defective fuel injectors and faulty PCM software. However, Honda has arbitrarily excluded my specific VIN from this extension (case number Case # XXX). Honda Corporate has officially denied assistance, forcing me to drive a vehicle with a known fuel system defect that threatens sudden vehicle failure in traffic. The malfunction indictator light came on due to diagnostic trouble code P0430 (front bank catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2]) while driving. The vehicle has 64,240 miles and has had zero symptoms prior to the DTC appearing. This problem is noted in Service Bulletin 21-010 for Honda Pilots year 2017-2019, but my Vin was not included in the "Vin range". I am taking the vehicle in to the dealer for an inspection and diagnostic, but I believe the "Vin range" should be updated to include my vehicle.

An “Emissions System Problem” warning message appeared intermittently on the dashboard while driving. Fuel gage read incorrectly staing we had gas and estimated fuel for 70 miles. We stalled while driving. Several error lights came on, car would not start. After researching we saw alot of complaints about fuel Guage issues so we were able to get 2 gal of gas and then make it to a gas station. Took car in for diagnostic, no known problem. ????

The"MIL" reported "Emmisions System Problem" The Dealer stated "DIAG Code P219A" was the underying cause, and the reccomended solution was to "replace fuel injectors and check for PGM updates". I paid for the repairs, and took the vehichle home. After some research I discovered that these symptoms, codes, replacement parts etc.. are all consistant with a Honda Service Bulletin (MC-10183514-0001) as refrenced by NHTSA ID 10183514. where Honda was extending the warentee for the fuel injectors. After reviewing the document I found that my VIN is not included in the scope of the "warentee extension" I opened case number 16127621 with AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. to inquire further and get a reasonable answer as to why my VIN was excluded from scope, they were responsive, but provided no explanation other than my VIN " is not included in this campaign for fuel injector concerns. Unfortunately, your vehicle is not eligible for reimbursement at this time." I would like to have it "on record" that I have voiced concerns suspecting this is not a coinsidence, and the scope of the recall should be expanded.

Dashboard warning "Emissions System Problem". Trouble code - P0430 / Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2. Brought it in to the dealer, and required the fuel injection to be replaced. There is recall for model year 2016-2019 Honda Pilot V6, but was told by the dealer this car was not part of the recall based on the VIN#. Fuel Pump was having problem, and replaced under recall on 09/28/2023 (54K miles).

My car is very hesitant while driving, it pulsates as well. I can be driving at 65mph and next thing I’m doing 45-50 and the engine is sputtering and the dashboard lights up with check engine lights.I know there’s a recall on the fuel injectors for the model year I own but mine is not included in the recall which I think it should be. Scanned the codes and got P0430 and P219B which is the fuel injectors as well as raw fuel making its way back to the catalytic converter. I’ve read of thousands of Honda owners with the same issues of being left high and dry by Honda just because they refuse to include vin numbers that should have been in the original recall. I really hope this recall can be expanded as my car has been babied with only 49K miles on it. Thank you

Fuel Injector issue - diagnosed at Mike's Automotive, a NAPA AutoCare Center by ASE certified technician. Codes were P0430 and P219B which indicates fuel injector issue. The Emmissions System Problem check engine light goes on and off at random times, reduced fuel economy by almost 5 mpg, hard shifting, stalling. All symptoms are in line with the recall for 2019 Honda Pilots however my VIN is not included in the recall, but I believe it should be. Honda wants me to bring my vehicle to a Honda Dealership to get diagnosed, diagnostic is my cost, though I've already paid for a diagnostic at a different repair shop.

My vehicle keeps pulling up a code intermittently to do with fuel injector issues. The mechanic tells me that it is a fuel injector issue needing replacement. There is a recall for my model of 2019 Pilots, but Honda is saying my VIN is not included in this recall. I find it highly unlikely that this is related due to my fuel injectors are messed up and the machine checking for my engine light issue is pulling the same codes and issues that are covered by the recall on other Pilots. It is very evident that my vehicle and other owners' pilots are having the same fuel injector issues but are also being told their VIN is not covered under this recall. This seems to be a much bigger issue than they are admitting or including in the recall, and this should definitely be reconsidered due to the costly repairs this is for owners experiencing this same manufacture problem.
