My Honda Pilot automatically applied the brakes 2 times while traveling on the interstate at 60 mph when there was no one in front of me and no one even near me. Both times it applied the brakes automatically and suddenly for no reason. It could have caused a bad accident. I was fortunate no one was behind me. Honda denies anything is wrong because it didn’t do it for them when they took it for a drive.

The vehicle previously experienced a steering wheel locking issue and was taken to the dealer for repair. The dealer stated the issue was repaired on December 11, 2024. On February 24, 2026, while driving on a public street, the vehicle hesitated or jerked slightly during acceleration and then appeared to operate normally. After a few minutes, multiple warning messages suddenly appeared on the dashboard, and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn and effectively locked while I was driving. I immediately activated my hazard lights. I was unable to safely pull over because the steering wheel would not respond properly, which placed me and other drivers at risk. I had to continue driving slowly until I found a side road where I could safely stop. I turned the vehicle off. When restarting, the warning messages reappeared. After several minutes, the warning lights cleared, and the steering wheel was no longer locked but felt loose and unstable ("wobbly"). I cautiously resumed driving. After several minutes, the steering began to feel normal again. The following warnings were displayed: Hill Start Assist problem, Trailer Stability Assist problem, Hill Descent Control problem, Adaptive Cruise Control problem, Lane Keeping Assist problem, Collision Mitigation Braking System problem, Road Departure Mitigation problem, Low Speed Braking Control problem, Auto High-Beam problem, Electric Power Steering system problem – Steering Assist Not Available, and "Stop. Steering assist reduced. Stop driving when safe." The failed component appears to be the Electric Power Steering system and related driver-assistance systems. The vehicle is available for inspection. The problem was previously addressed by a dealer but has reoccurred. No prior warning lights were present before this incident. The failure occurred suddenly while driving.

Incident Description: While traveling at 45 mph with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) active, the vehicle experienced a "phantom braking" event triggered by high-contrast shadows on the roadway. The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) incorrectly identified a shadow as a physical obstacle and abruptly applied the brakes in a clear path of travel. I was forced to manually override the system by applying the accelerator to prevent a potential rear-end collision. Safety Risk & Technical Context: This defect is repeatable under specific lighting conditions and occurs across multiple speed intervals (35–45 mph). I believe this incident is directly related to the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis (EA24002) regarding inadvertent AEB activations. Furthermore, recent Service Bulletins (such as MC-11024251-0001) regarding Front View Camera and Radar Sensor updates suggest a known failure in the system's ability to process high-contrast environmental data. Conclusion: My local dealership failed to investigate the complaint. The sudden, unexpected deceleration poses a severe safety risk to the vehicle's occupants and following traffic. I request that NHTSA formally notify Honda of America regarding this recurring ADAS failure to ensure that my VIN is prioritized for the necessary sensor alignment and software enhancements.

The vehicle is extremely slow to accelerate at low speeds under 20mph. There have been several near accidents due to the lack of acceleration. The recall for the fuel injector was addressed and ECM per manufacture but hasn’t solved the problem. This is dangerous for any acceleration that can cause you to get hit.

My Honda is having strange, intermittent issues with a plethora of things. I have taken it to a diagnostic specialist who worked with a phone mechanic and noone can tell me what is going on. My car will fully shut off at stop lights randomly, so I have to turn off the auto-idle feature every time I drive. Sometimes my power steering cuts out and my wheel locks and unlocks and my computer screen shuts off when this happens. I have to shut off and start my car for it to work again. Other times, all of my automated safety features stop and I get a huge slew of messages telling me that my lane assist, automatic hill braking, and a ton of other automatic safety features don't work. My car can't lane assist, do adaptive cruise control, use the backup camera, or anything. It goes away if I stop and restart my car a bunch. I also had a seatbelt alarm that was going off repeatedly with no reason. The dealership turned off the alarm. I am having a lot of issues with this car that makes me question if it is a lemon. I see other new Pilot owners mentioning issues with power steering shutting off and it's a huge safety risk. Noone knows whats wrong or how to fix it so what do I do? This happens intermittently, randomly, and recurrently since June.

I was driving down a residential road at about 40 mph. There was no car or other obstacle in front of me, but my car suddenly slammed on the brakes. It brought the car to an abrupt stop for no reason. If a car had been behind me, they would have slammed into me. It was so abrupt, I felt like I had whiplash. It was terrifying. I had taken the car into the dealership to due to the brake pin recall just 3 days ago. They inspected and said the pin was fine. When I called them to report this experience, they said it was unrelated to the recall. I am bringing my car into them tomorrow to inspect what happened with the automatic braking system.

The automatic emergency braking system in my vehicle has repeatedly activated without any visible reason. The brakes engage suddenly even when there are no cars, curves, reflective surfaces, or obstacles nearby. This has occurred on straight, empty roads and in clear conditions. We have previously taken the car to the dealership for issues related to sensors and wiring, and were even told at one point to turn off certain safety features. Most recently, we went through the dealership and escalated the issue to Honda corporate, but they closed our case and claimed there is nothing wrong with the car. I am very concerned that this unresolved issue could lead to the brakes locking up in a dangerous situation, potentially causing an accident.

I believe that there is a safety issue with the design of the adaptive cruise control on the 2024 Honda Pilot. The vehicle applies the brakes at about 1 mph over the selected speed. It is especially aggressive when topping a hill. The gas lets up, but due to the vehicle inertia, the car slightly accelerates, then braking. I believe that this action is unsafe for several reasons. It slows the vehicle several mph below the set speed causing cars behind me to swerve or come close to me. No human driver would apply the brakes in that situation. It also appears to irritate those same drivers. I’m glad that none of them has a weapon so far. It also applies the brakes going downhill on the interstate highway. This occurs at any speed below 55 mph. This also makes it look like the driver is continually tapping the brakes, when no one normally would. I suspect that there may be extra brake wear. My family asks what is going on with the car because of the aggressive braking. I previously owned a 2018 Honda Pilot with adaptive cruise control. It used transmission downshifting to slow the vehicle. I admit that there were some over speeds, but nothing serious. The 2024 Owner’s Manual states that downshifting is also used, but I’ve only seen the brakes used for over speed control. There are no user selectable adjustments to the system. I am getting used to this (feature, not a bug) by clicking off the cruise control whenever the conditions are close for a brake activation. This causes me to pay more attention to monitoring for those conditions, rather than the actual driving and traffic scan. I suggest that the system use downshifting followed by brakes after a 3 or 4 mph excursion from the set speed.

Vehicle has many fault codes that will not clear. Took to dealership and the state they believe its a wheel speed sensor and vehicle is safe to drive. Flashing warnings include AWD system problem, electric parking brake problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, electric power steering problem, antilock brake system problem, vehicle stability assist problem, hill start assist problem, trailer stability assist problem, hill descent control system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keep assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, low speed braking problem, auto high beam problem, parking sensor problem, antilock brake system problem, as well as drive mode change unavailable, rear hatch will not open, drivers seat will not automatically move into position once vehicle is started, vehicle will not shut off without having to hit the off button numerous times, and vehicle is not auto shutting off after the 10-15 min timeframe. Dealer states they have ordered the part and is currently on back order. Was told Honda does not provide loaner vehicles for warranty work. Seems strange that a wheel sensor could cause so many errors and shut off all safety features, brakes and drivetrain of the vehicle.

1) 2024 Honda Pilot is a 7 passenger vehicle w/2WD towing rating of 3500 pounds. With 4 people in the rows 1&2, and 4-20 lb. suitcases in the cargo area behind the 2nd row, the rear suspension has extreme negative camber on the suspension and it looks like it's weighted down with a ton of rocks in the back. This causes excessive tire wear on the inside of the rear tires.I brought this into the dealership to address, and they said that it's normal. They declined to check the alignment specs, and said that they just put a couple guys in the 2nd row and all looked normal.Must be inaccurate specs, or it has inadequate rear suspension and/or rear shocks. Why would a vehicle with 60% of the passenger/weight capacity, and with not even set up with a towing hitch, have this kind of problem? This should be investigated as we've never had this problem with our previous Honda's, or any other vehicle. 2) Since new, we have problems with the acceleration of the vehicle, primarily from a standing start. When we try to gently press on the gas peddle it surges forward like a person in a sports car trying to spin the tires. This has nothing to do with the pavement as it's dry concrete, and it is very hard to get the vehicle to move forward without spinning the front tires.Dealership says that it's normal as it just has to do with the gearing of the new 10 speed transmission and it's sensitive (huge understatement). This rapid acceleration is dangerous and can cause you to loose control, and even worse if we're driving on wet roads.I've never experienced a gas peddle/acceleration problem like this on any vehicle I've owned in 40 years, even sports cars.Drive one of these Pilot's and you'll see yourself! 3) Honda's Vehicle Data Privacy Notice is extremely unethical and should be illegal.Honda is collecting and selling it's clients personal info to third parties. They're trapping clients and compromising personal data and identity for even more money. This leads to identity theft.

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing safety issues with my leased Honda, which I obtained in March 2024. Shortly after leasing the vehicle, I noticed that the sensors would frequently activate and deactivate without any apparent reason. In May 2024, while driving, all the sensors turned on, deactivating all safety features and causing the car to swerve. The sensor lights remained on the next day, prompting me to take the car to the dealership. I was informed that the sensor and a camera required repairs, which were subsequently addressed. Despite my concerns about the safety of driving this car, especially with three children, I was assured that the issue was resolved. I filed a complaint with Honda Corporate, and they indicated that the issue would need to recur 2-3 times before considering a different vehicle. Unfortunately, on [XXX], all the sensors activated again while I was driving, causing the car to stop accelerating in the middle of a busy road with my children in the back seat. This placed us in a life-threatening situation, as other vehicles were traveling at high speeds. The transmission light also turned on, advising to avoid high speeds. The next morning, I reported the issue to Honda and arranged for roadside assistance to tow the car to the dealership. During the towing process, the sensors activated again, and the car struggled to accelerate. Once at the dealership, I provided videos of the car's behavior to Ricardo, the service advisor, who acknowledged the severity of the issue. However, he later informed me that the sensors were not currently active, and the scanner could not detect any issues. Despite keeping the car overnight for further testing, they were unable to identify or repair the problem. I was advised to either pick up the car or leave it with them, but no loaner vehicle was offered. I am extremely concerned about the safety of driving this car. The vehicle was purchased brand new on Feb 1st 2024. While driving on the highway on Feb 5th 2024, with only 105 miles on the odometer, and no prior warning messages/lights, many warning messages were suddenly displayed on the dashboard, repeating one after the other, instructing that various safety features were disabled, displaying: "Parking brake not available", "Brake system problem", "Brake performance may be reduced", "Brake hold system problem", "Anti-lock brake system problem", "Vehicle stability assist system problem", "Reduced traction and handling", "Electric power steering system problem. Steering assist reduced", "Hill start assist problem. Vehicle may roll upon brake release", "Trailer stability assist system problem", "Hill descent control system problem", "Adaptive cruise control system problem", "Lane keeping assist system problem", "Collision mitigation braking system problem", "Road departure mitigation system problem", "Low speed braking system control problem", "Auto high beam problem", "Parking sensor problem". In addition, after coming to a full stop and shifting to Park, (or, turning off the car) the tailgate would not open regardless of how we tried (dash button, remote key, tailgate handle, foot swing). Also, the car would not turn off after pressing the On/Off button. The button would need to be pressed repeatedly to turn off the vehicle. All of these safety systems and functions were disabled at the same time without prior warning while driving at highway speeds. The Honda dealer confirmed the problem, inspected the vehicle, and concluded a faulty ABS control module is to blame. We know of one other 2024 Honda Pilot owner in our neighborhood who experienced the same issue, which makes it likely that this is a common problem. Honda should have designed redundancies to prevent sudden simultaneous failure of so many safety systems. Honda should recall all affected vehicles to replace faulty ABS control modules before people are hurt.

Today, the same problem with my car reemerged immediately after I collected it from the dealership, where it was supposedly repaired for this issue. Upon driving away, making three stops, and using both the Brake Hold and Engine Idle-Stop features, I encountered the same malfunction, leading to the flashing of all warning indicators. Alarmingly, the parking brake engaged on its own at traffic signals, and the car wouldn't turn off even when this issue was occurring. Previously, I had provided the dealership with a detailed description and photos of this issue. They identified the cause as an improperly installed rear wheel speed sensor, which they claimed to have fixed and reset the error codes. However, the problem persisted right after I retrieved the car. I immediately returned the vehicle to the dealership. The car was still not turning off, and while they noted the issue, I am skeptical about their technical ability to diagnose and solve the problem effectively. I urge Honda to promptly address this issue in collaboration with the dealership and to initiate recalls to prevent potential severe accidents. To replicate the issue, toggle both the Brake Hold and Engine Idle-Stop features in various combination, and drive at a speed of 35-40 mph with 4-5 stops of around 30 seconds each toggle combination. When the issue reproduces, All the warning messages will illuminate, and the parking brake will engage automatically. I suspect the drive controller getting reset due to some electrical tripping when brake hold and/or engine-idle stop is toggled which is causing a cascade of failures.

Today, while I was driving, the vehicle information display suddenly started flashing warnings indicating that the following systems were experiencing errors, leading to potentially reduced brake performance. I was advised to take the car to the dealer for diagnosis and immediate remediation: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Hill Start Assist Lane Departure and Correction Assist Brake Hold System However, when we stopped and attempted to turn off the car in the usual manner, it wouldn't shut down. It took two attempts to finally turn off the car. The indicators began flashing again when the car was restarted, but after turning off the car again and waiting for 10 minutes, then restarting it, the warning messages disappeared. I managed to take pictures of at least two warnings as they were displayed on the vehicle information screen: Hill Start Assist and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). This is a brand new car, and it's concerning to encounter such issues with only 1,215 miles on the odometer. I request that the NHTSA investigate this matter with Honda’s manufacturing to ensure these problems are clarified and rectified before they lead to any accidents.
