2006 Honda Ridgeline Other / unspecified Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the other system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Other / unspecified reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

When my dealership inspected my rear frame for corrosion related to warranty 22V-430, they noted that the rear frame corrosion was so severe that the rear passenger wheel was no longer secured to the rear frame, resulting in a severe safety risk. However, warranty 22V-430 relates to corrosion of the rear frame resulting in an unsecured fuel tank which may result in a fuel leak and an increased risk of fire. The dealership and the district Honda representative agreed that the frame was severely corroded and presented a severe safety risk, but the district Honda representative said Honda will not warranty the defective frame nor offer any remedy for the related rear frame corrosion problem. The corrosion problem acknowledged in warranty 22V-430 could impair the safety and stability of the vehicle and put the driver and all passenger as well as other vehicles and pedestrians at risk if the wheel becomes unsecured. Until warranty 22V-430 was performed, there was no warning system alerting me to the safety issue and thus could have easily gone undetected. Since Honda is not taking responsibility for defect in the rear frame, I am seeking your help for this related rear frame corrosion problem. Note: The attached 4 pictures show the rear drivers side frame with secured wheel compared with the rear passenger side frame with unsecured wheel.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN USING THE JACK, THE JACK WOULD NOT LIFT THE VEHICLE HIGH ENOUGH TO SAFELY REMOVE AND REPLACE THE TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE JACK APPEARED TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH THE WEIGHT OF A SMALLER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THEY NEVER RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE JACK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000. UPDATED 5/2/11 *CN UPDATED 06/06/11

ON AUGUST 15, I PURCHASED A HONDA RIDGELINE 2006 FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE PERFORMS WELL, THE HONDA MUSIC LINK IPOD ADAPTER WAS A WASTE OF $475.00. THE HONDA MUSIC LINK IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO USE AND IS ACTUALLY A HAZARD TO SAFE DRIVING. THE SOFTWARE REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT USER INTERVENTION AND DISTRACTS THE DRIVER'S ATTENTION FROM SAFELY OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THESE SENTIMENTS ARE WELL DOCUMENTED AT: HTTP://WWW.NUXX.NET/HONDAMUSICLINK.HTML HTTP://DIGG.COM/APPLE/HONDA_MUSIC_LINK_IPOD_ADAPTER_REVIEW I AM NEITHER AN AUTHOR OF THESE REVIEWS NOR A PAID CONSULTANT. I AM SIMPLY A USER WHO IS CONCERNED THAT A DISTRACTIVE TEENAGER OR YOUNG ADULT WHO HAS THIS SYSTEM INSTALLED MAY BE INJURED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. WHEREAS AUTOMOBILE RADIOS HAVE TYPICALLY USED A SIMPLE INTERFACE (BUTTONS AND A DIAL) CONSUMER ELECTRONICS HAVE BECOME PROGRESSIVELY MORE COMPLEX. ALTHOUGH A COMMUTER RIDING A BUS OR A TRAIN MAY BE ABLE TO SPEND THE HOURS FIDDLING WITH THE DEVICE INTERFACE, THE OPERATOR OF A VEHICLE DOES NOT. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS AS TO HOW TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION BEFORE ANY INNOCENT LIVES ARE LOST BECAUSE THE DRIVER WAS BUSY 'PLAYING WITH THE IPOD'. THOSE OF US WHO HAVE CHILDREN SHOULD WANT TO LEAVE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR THEM. THOSE OF US WHO DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN HAVE THE LUXURY OF THINKING ONLY OF OURSELVES, BUT IN THINKING OF OTHERS, SET AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL TO FOLLOW. *JB

TIRE JACK ON THE HONDA RIDGELINE DOES NOT RAISE UP HIGH ENOUGH TO CHANGE A TIRE. YOU NEED TO HAVE A BOARD AT LEAST AN INCH TALL TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE. *NM

RIDGELINES BUILT PRIOR TO 8/24/2005 DOES NOT SUPPORT TRAILERS WITH SURGE BRAKES. TOW ELECTRICAL HARNESS NEEDS A 12V LINE INTO THE TRAILER TO DISENGAGE BRAKES WHEN TRAILER IS BACKING UP. DURING REVERSE, SINCE THERE IS NO 12V INTO THE TRAILER, THE TRAILER CANNOT BE BACK UP. THE DISK BRAKES ARE LOCKED IN THE TRAILER. HONDA HAS RECTIFIED THE ISSUE ON NEWER RIDGELINES. *NM
