What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Honda Ridgeline, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

TAKATA RECALL - WHEN I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN AMES THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND MY INFORMATION IN THEIR DATA BASE. AFTER I GAVE THEM MY PHONE NUMBER, NAME, AND VIN NUMBER. IT WAS NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE BRAKES ON MY TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE COULD NOT GET THE BRAKES ADJUSTED TO WHERE THERE WAS NOT VERY MUCH PLAY IN THE PEDAL. YOU HAVE TO PUSH DOWN A LONG WAYS FOR THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE. IT IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE.
I HAVE RECIEVED A RECALL NOTICE ...SOMETHING ABOUT DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS.. I REFUSE TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALER...THE LAST RECALL THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD WAS THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER ... IT WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY.. THERE IS STILL AIR IN THE BRAKE LINES.. THIS CAUSES A MUSHY BRAKE PEDAL.. I ALSO HAD A BUELL MOTORCYLE... I RECEIVED 9 RECALLS IN A 2 WEEK PERIOD... OUT OF THE 4 RECALLS THAT I ALLOWED THE DEALER TO PERFORM 1 FAILED ON MY WHY HOME { FUEL TANK VENT} AND ANOTHER FAILED A WEEK LATER { SIDE STAND SAFTEY SWITCH} .. NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT ANY OF THESE ISSUES.

From owner reports, verbatim
When my dealership inspected my rear frame for corrosion related to warranty 22V-430, they noted that the rear frame corrosion was so severe that the rear passenger wheel was no longer secured to the rear frame, resulting in a severe safety risk. However, warranty 22V-430 relates to corrosion of the rear frame resulting in an unsecured fuel tank which may result in a fuel leak and an increased risk of fire. The dealership and the district Honda representative agreed that the frame was severely corroded and presented a severe safety risk, but the district Honda representative said Honda will not warranty the defective frame nor offer any remedy for the related rear frame corrosion problem. The corrosion problem acknowledged in warranty 22V-430 could impair the safety and stability of the vehicle and put the driver and all passenger as well as other vehicles and pedestrians at risk if the wheel becomes unsecured. Until warranty 22V-430 was performed, there was no warning system alerting me to the safety issue and thus could have easily gone undetected. Since Honda is not taking responsibility for defect in the rear frame, I am seeking your help for this related rear frame corrosion problem. Note: The attached 4 pictures show the rear drivers side frame with secured wheel compared with the rear passenger side frame with unsecured wheel.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THERE WAS AN UNUSUALLY LOUD NOISE. THE NOISE WAS ONLY HEARD WHEN IN REVERSE AND NOT IN DRIVE OR ATTEMPTING A TURN. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE OR TO MAKE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,900.
I WAS TRAVELING FROM HOUSTON TO LAS VEGAS VIA INTERSTATE 10. ABOUT 100 MILES FROM EL PASO, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, BOOM, AND WE STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE WHAT WE SAW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK I WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED. THE FIRST THOUGHT CAME TO OUR MIND WAS, WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN KILLED, THE DRIVE SHAFT SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE TRAVELING AT THE HIGHWAY SPEED. BASED ON THE WORDS OF MECHANIC ABEL OF KELLY GRIMSLEY HONDA IN ODESSA TEXAS, WITH 14 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, HE HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN DONE YET SINCE THE COST IS APPROXIMATELY $5600. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT AND WE WERE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. I HAVE PHOTOS IF NEEDED. *TR

(THIS IS THE ABBV. VERSION OF ORIGINAL 4091 CHARACTER COMPLETE DESCRIPTION.) 06/30/2006, FORT SMITH ARKANSAS. VEHICLE: 2006 HONDA RIDGELINE. COMPLAINT RE: OEM TIRES: MICHELIN TIRES (P245 65 R17 105S LTX M/S RADIAL X)WHILE NEGOTIATING A CURVE ON GARRISON AVE. BEFORE 13TH STREET, IN THE INNER LANE (4 LANE ROAD), TRAVELING APPX. 25-30 MPH, WAS CROWDED INTO THE CURB BY A CAR IN LEFT HAND LANE. THERE WAS NOT A HARD IMPACT, AS THE TRUCK WAS ROUGHLY PARALLEL TO THE CURB. I FELT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUCK START TO "CLIMB UP" ON THE CURB. IMMEDIATELY FLATTENED BOTH TIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE. MAINTAINED CONTROL, & PULLED OFF IN PARKING LOT. BOTH TIRES HAD "U-SHAPED FLAPS" RIPPED IN THE SIDEWALL. OMITTED EXACT DESCRIPTION OF THE "RIPS" TO REDUCE CHARACTER COUNT, BUT IT'S AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. IT WAS NIGHT, BUT I LOOKED AT THE CURB & ROAD FOR ANY SHARP OBJECTS THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE DAMAGE TO THE SIDEWALLS & FOUND NOTHING. NEXT DAY, I EXAMINED THE CURB & VICINITY CLOSELY. I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE TIRES, THE CURB, & VICINITY. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE OBVIOUSLY CAUSED THE DAMAGE. I BELIEVE THE TIRES BLEW OUT DUE TO LOW SPEED CONTACT WITH THE CURB. I BELIEVE THE TIRE SIDEWALLS ARE INSUFFICIENT IN DESIGN & CONSTRUCT FOR USE ON THIS TRUCK, & THAT THE TIRE SIDEWALLS COLLAPSED SIGNIFICANTLY WHEN THEY CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE CURB, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY DID NOT SUSTAIN A DIRECT IMPACT. (ALL 4 TIRES FULLY INFLATED: TRUCK WAS ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD & THE TIRES HAD < 5000 MILES ON THEM). I BELIEVE THE COLLAPSE OF THE SIDEWALL CAUSED IT TO BE "PINCHED" BY THE RIM, & DUE TO SUBSTANDARD SIDEWALL CONSTRUCT, IT WAS FOLLOWED BUT A SUDDEN & CATASTROPHIC RIP (BLOW OUT) UP THE SIDEWALL. I STILL HAVE THE TWO TIRES. THESE TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED FOR OEM PLACEMENT ON A 4 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK, BUT FAILED TO WITHSTAND A MINOR BRUSH WITH A CURB ON A CITY STREET. I BELIEVE THESE TIRES ARE INFERIOR IN DESIGN, DEFECTIVE IN CONSTRUCT, & SUB-STANDARD FOR THE APPLICATION. *TR
