My 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 experienced a complete and sudden loss of drive power at high speed, generating open fault code DTC P1A9096 (Internal ICCU Failure) [24V-204]. This failure completely matches the component and safety hazard profile under active Federal Safety Recalls 24V-204 and 24V-868 [24V-204].The vehicle was repaired at an authorized retail facility, Hyundai of El Cajon. The facility's un-finalized pre-invoice explicitly verified the ICCU failure code but deliberately omitted the federal safety recall context, routing the mechanical intervention under an internal manufacturer 'TSB 24-EV-004H' to hide the defect from consumer safety databases [24V-204].This represents a deceptive administrative effort to under-report active federal safety recall failures on newer model inventories across the E-GMP platform architecture [24V-204]. I am requesting a formal safety defect enforcement review into the manufacturer's regional reporting data.

SAFETY DEFECT REPORT: 2025 HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY FAILURE On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 24,000 miles, the vehicle suddenly displayed a critical dashboard safety alert notifying me of an electrical propulsion failure and explicitly instructing me not to drive the vehicle. The sudden failure entirely disabled the vehicle's driving power and compromised its operational safety. The vehicle was removed from my possession via a flatbed tow on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and delivered to Southern States Hyundai. On July 11, 2026, the dealership service technicians diagnosed a total high-voltage traction battery pack failure. The dealer opened Repair Order 9651579, and Hyundai Corporate approved a full warranty replacement of the $28,000 battery system. The vehicle remained out of service due to this safety defect for 21 cumulative days until the component replacement was completed on July 29, 2026.

Systemic failure of the electrical architecture and Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) resulting in a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power. Over 14 months of ownership, this vehicle has suffered four distinct, electrical and charging failures. On June 6, 2026, the vehicle experienced a total ICCU failure. All lights in the car went dark and lost all power without warning, creating an immediate and life-threatening hazard to myself . The vehicle had to be towed. Three prior repair attempts for charging and 12V battery failures were made by the dealer/. They replaced the ICCU, the car currently runs.. The replaced ICCU has not been redesigned and as a result the car is unsafe to take out on the highway or on a long drive.

The car entered a failed ICCU state (not confirmed until the car was looked at by Hyundai at the dealership) while I was driving down to Ano Nuevo regional park. Received a warning on the dash that said that electrical system has failed and to pull over. It restricted me from going over 10 mph on Highway 1 and I eventually pulled over the side of the road and got towed to the dealership. The car is home with me now but I do not feel safe driving this vehicle after all of the reports of ICCU failures. I am very concerned this will happen again and in a more dangerous situation. I was also stranded by this car in March 2026 with a dead battery.

When I started the car at 10pm , a loud pop was heard and warning lights on the dashboard indicated an electrical problem. I turned off the radio and anything extra that could use up power; during the next 45 minutes I took surface streets instead of the freeway to drive 22 miles back home and speed was limited to 40 mph. The next day the same warning lights were on the dashboard and speed was limited to 20mph; car lost power after 1 block. Car was towed to the dealer, where an ICCU failure and blown fuse in the engine was diagnosed by dealership and replaced.

Car has only 3307 miles and incurred a DTC P1A9096. This meant the vehicle only had power from the 12 volt battery, not traction battery. Luckily, the event happened 3 miles from home and we were able to just make it. Next day upon calling for flatbed tow service, the car generated an additional DTC P05616. 12 volt battery was exhausted and nothing functioned on the car. Had to then call for a different tow truck with dollies. The failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) was a cause for recall on earlier year's models. This is a major safety issue as failure of the ICCU leaves you stranded with an inoperable vehicle where you cannot even lock the doors. Currently, the vehicle is at the dealer (Lithia Hyundai of Anchorage) for repair.

Vehicle was parked in closed garage overnight. In the morning I tried to start the car and it was unresponsive. key fobs, digital keys, NFC cards none of them were able to open the car. Used a physical key to open the door, and then tried to turn the car on, nothing worked all screens remained black and car was unresponsive. AAA confirmed that the 12V battery was fully dead. When they jumped the vehicle we heard a pop in the car, which is a known ICCU failure indication. The car still turned on and was drivable. I got it to the dealership safely and they confirmed that the 12V battery was fully dead and car only turns in if jumped. They also confirmed that the ICCU had a failure as well and they are going to need to replace the entire battery pack/ICCU assembly.

The ICCU failed on my 2025 Ioniq 5 within 3 months of ownership and only 811 miles on it. The weather that morning was slightly chilly but not cold. I turned on the car and put it into reverse and after backing up only a couple feet, I heard a pop and the "Check Vehicle Electrical System" message and warning light came on. I had not DC fast charged the car since owning it and had only charged it on level 2 chargers at about 9.6kw to 12kw. The car was not charging the night before the issue occurred and had not been on the charger for several days previously as the battery level was around 70%. There were no issues or symptoms before prior to the failure. The car was towed to the dealership and the ICCU and high voltage were replaced under warranty. This is a major issue with the car and it keeps on happening to eGMP platform cars. The same issue happened with my 2023 Ioniq 5. Hyundai is not providing any information to consumers if they have actually identified the cause of the frequent failures or have manufactured a new part that corrects the manufacturing defect. Please direct Hyundai to issue a statement if they have found a fix or there needs to be a major recall until they identify and correct the underlying problem with the ICCU.

While driving on [XXX] , I heard a 'pop' towards the rear of the car. A dashboard warning appeared notifying me of an electrical fault. The car went into 'limp' mode, which allowed me to drive no faster than around 25 mph. Fortunately, I was within a half mile of my home, so I was able to do a U turn and return home. I called a tow truck, which towed the car to the local Hyundai dealer in Lebanon, NH. This was a Saturday in February, 2026, so dealer inspection did not occur until the following Monday. I was driving on the highway when the car suddenly flashed a “check power supply” warning and then immediately shut down. I was traveling approximately 55 mph when the car came to a sudden stop and I was almost rear-ended as a consequence. I was not rear ended because I had a wide shoulder to immediately pull over onto, but if this had happened in a location without a shoulder, it likely would have caused an accident.

I was driving my vehicle on a freeway with 3 passengers when i heard a muffled pop or thud from behind me. A rear passenger confirmed that it came from beneath the rear seat towards the left side of the car. The vehicle speed immediately dropped to less than 40 mph and a warning message appeared on the dash "Check electric vehicle system". I later noticed a red battery icon appear on the left of the dash. I pulled over after leaving the freeway and attempted to resolve the issue by turning off the car, then restarting it. The notice and red battery icon still appeared. I feel that this sudden reduction in speed is a safety issue because I could have been driving at a higher speed (65-70 vs 45-50). Following cars may not have been able to stop in time, or I cuold have been forced to attempt to get off the road by entering lanes with vehicles travelling at a much faster speed. I was about 5 miles away from home on the start of a 400 mile trip so decided to turn around. Back at home I discovered that a new DTC code had been thrown during or after this event - P1A9096. I transferred to another person's cart to complete the trip, and on return arranged for the car to be transported to a manufacturer recommended dealership to check the issue. The Dealership service department conducted diagnostic tests and determined that the issue was caused by an ICCU failure. The have placed an order for a replacement ICCU unit and fuse. Prior to this event there had been no dash light warnings or trouble codes thrown.

Car charged as scheduled overnight 3/28/26 but was dead the morning of 3/29/26 and when it was jumped gave error "Battery overheated, please stop and exit vehicle" and "check electrical system" - vehicle has been in shop for 16 days, no diagnosis except that it "probably" needs a HV battery.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed after just 7400 miles on 2-6-2026. The vehicle would not drive faster than 25 miles per hour and had to be towed to the dealership for repair, where it took approximately one month to be returned to me. There was a "Check electric vehicle system" message on the dashboard.

For the HYUNDAI Ioniq 5 XRT, the ICCU, fuse and perhaps hybrid battery malfunctioned. We were in a disabled car on a 4 lane highway with traffic: On February 10, 2026, as we drove out of our home we heard a loud pop. As we got out onto a large 4 lane road near our house, the notice “Check Electrical System” came on and the car’s power was drastically reduced. We made a U turn and drove (20 mph) back to our driveway. We were fortunate that this was mid-day and the road was relatively clear. Normally this is an extremely busy road with traffic moving at 40-50 mph and we would have had great difficulty even pulling out to the side -- as there is only marginal side space on this road. Hyundai has confirmed to us that the ICCU and a related fuse failed. They also think the hybrid battery is also involved and they are testing to confirm that. We had no warning at all -- except for the electrical warning that came on as the car's power was reduced. The car had charged normally and had had no warning signals/signs at all.

COMPONENT FAILURE: The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed on a 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 AWD Limited with fewer than 3,000 miles on the odometer. The ICCU controls AC onboard charging and DC-DC power conversion. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. SAFETY RISK: The ICCU failure caused a complete loss of vehicle propulsion, rendering the vehicle fully undriveable. Warning lamps and system fault messages appeared on the instrument cluster prior to full failure. The vehicle lost all ability to be driven or charged. A sudden loss of propulsion in a battery electric vehicle poses significant safety risk to the driver and others on the road. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER CONFIRMATION: The failure was confirmed and inspected by the selling Hyundai dealership. Hyundai Motor America (the manufacturer) reviewed the case and issued a formal written determination in February 2026 concluding the defect was unrepairable, accepting a Lemon Law repurchase under Washington State RCW 19.118. This constitutes manufacturer confirmation that the ICCU failure is a non-repairable defect. WARNING SYMPTOMS: Multiple warning lamps and fault messages appeared on the vehicle’s instrument cluster and infotainment display prior to the vehicle becoming fully undriveable. These warnings preceded the total loss of propulsion. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Despite issuing a written Lemon Law repurchase acceptance in February 2026, Hyundai Motor America has failed to execute the repurchase for over 23 days past document submission, missing their own stated resolution deadline. This complaint is filed to create a federal record of both the ICCU safety defect and HMA’s failure to honor an accepted Lemon Law repurchase in a timely manner.

The manufacturer (Hyundai) identified a failure in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Despite a formal 'Notice to Cure,' the manufacturer refused to replace the 12V battery which was stressed during the failure, potentially leading to a repeat high-speed power loss event. The vehicle exhibited charging failures on multiple occasions over the course of several days after being connected to a Level 2 home charging unit overnight. On repeated mornings, the high-voltage battery was found to have not charged. The vehicle also exhibited intermittent slow charging behavior during this same period. Approximately six months prior to the charging failures, the 12-volt auxiliary battery was found to be completely discharged. During this same period, the vehicle was started on one occasion to find that every warning and alarm indicator on the dashboard had triggered simultaneously. The vehicle was completely inoperable at that time. After several minutes, all warning indicators cleared and normal operation resumed without any intervention. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Hyundai dealership on March 6, 2026, where the technician diagnosed the root cause as a failed Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The ICCU is responsible for managing both high-voltage battery charging and maintaining the 12-volt auxiliary battery; a failure of this component can result in loss of charging capability, auxiliary battery drain, and potentially a complete and sudden loss of vehicle operability. As of the date of this report, the vehicle is awaiting parts with an estimated repair time of approximately one week. The repair is expected to be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. This failure occurred with fewer than 10,000 miles on a 2025 model year vehicle. Based on publicly available owner reports and online forums, ICCU failures appear to be a recurring issue across multiple Hyundai IONIQ model variants.

While driving, car displayed a check electrical vehicle system warning light. The 12 volt battery completely died and could not maintain charge resulting in slower and then complete loss of propulsion. Towed to dealer and the following Monday determined it was an ICCU failure. Part is back ordered but verbally told on 2/24/2026 that part would be delivered in two weeks. We'll see!!! If this issue occurred while driving on an interstate at full speed with traffic it seems this might result in an accident since the max speed dropped to 25 MPH and then 12MPH after warning before being able to safely pull over.

On [XXX] while driving the car on a city street in Northhampton, MA, I heard a loud "pop" and there were multiple warning lights, beeps and messages indicating there was a problem with the electrical system. The car slowed dramatically and I was unable to drive at a safe speed to keep up with traffic. The car slowly lost power and I was able to pull over to the side of the road. The temperature was 15 degrees F - very cold, no heat and I had to stay with the car in freezing cold temperatures to await transport via tow to the local dealer. The tow service required that someone be with the vehicle in order to receive a tow. The dealer diagnosed the car with a failed ICCU - a well-known, increasingly common issue with these cars - and said there were already 10 Ioniqs on the lot awaiting replacement ICCUs. Drove 50 miles. Charged car at a supercharger. Unplugged car normally. Pushed start normally. Heard a light “pop” sound. Car would drive but with low acceleration. Warning lights came on. Then bright “stop now” lights and beeping. Then it died in the parking lot and would not start at all.

My Ioniq5 experienced a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) while driving. There was a loud "pop" noise from the back seat that occurred while driving, and afterwards the car experienced an unexpected braking/deceleration and was unable to maintain a speed over ~30MPH. After the "pop" noise -- a "Check electric vehicle system" alert appeared on the dash, and an alert that the car had entered a limited power state also appeared a few minutes later. My safety was put at risk due to the car unexpectedly decelerating and then losing the ability to maintain speed while driving on a busy highway. Other's safety was put at risk due to my limited ability to maintain speed and not impede traffic. There was no warning's prior to the sudden failure to indicate there was anything wrong with the vehicle. The car needed to be towed to the dealer due to the limited state the car was put in. It was confirmed at the dealership that the ICCU had failed and needed to be replaced. It was also confirmed at the dealership that the replacement part was the same as what had failed, which is concerning for mine and other safety that this is at risk of occurring again.
