While the vehicle was being driven, the sunroof became inoperable, stuck in the tilt position. The motor could be heard running but the glass panel would not move in either direction. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before the failure. The dealership disassembled the sunroof and found that a spring on the passenger-side sunroof rail had broken, and that the broken spring damaged the rail itself. The dealer confirmed the failure matches Hyundai TSB 23-BD-003H-1, Sunroof Wind Deflector and Mechanism Replacement, issued April 2023. That bulletin applies to certain 2020-2022 model year Palisade vehicles equipped with a sunroof and produced before 5/4/2022, and describes the wind deflector malfunctioning and damaging the sunroof mechanism, leaving the sunroof inoperable. My vehicle falls within that range and experienced that failure. The dealership was able to move the glass panel into a fully closed, flat position, where it appears normal. However, because the rail is broken, the panel is not harnessed in the rail. It can be pushed upward by hand from the passenger side. The dealership stated the panel could move at highway speed and that the vehicle is not secure against entry in this condition. For that reason the dealership has kept the vehicle since 8/24/2026 and provided a loaner rather than returning it to me to drive. The technician documented no signs of misuse or outside damage and noted that the sunroof is rarely used. The vehicle and the broken component are available for inspection. The manufacturer was notified and declined goodwill assistance, citing the vehicle's time in service and mileage. The repair was quoted at approximately $3,500 and has not been performed. Mileage at diagnosis was 83,069.

Pressed button to open glass sunroof and glass panel crookedly began opening with one side opening farther than the other until it stopped midway with a loud grinding noise. It stopped crooked in the tracks. It would not open. It would not completely close and the rear was left protruding above the roof line. There was nothing holding the back of the glass panel to the tracks. I could lift the back freely. A strong gust of wind or a passing truck could lift the panel. If the glass panel were to separate from the vehicle, a displaced panel could increase the potential of a crash or injury to other road users. I did not feel it was safe to drive it on the highway and took it to the Hyundai dealer where it sat until repaired on 4/7/2026 with redesigned deflector attachments, carriage bars and driving wedges. Hyundai TSB 23-BD-003H-1 describes this cascading failure of the defective air deflector breaking apart and damaging the sunroof tracks and specifies redesigned parts but fails to take in consideration that the glass panel is not held firmly in place once the connection between panel and tracks have failed. Prior to the sunroof’s failure I was unaware that a TBS had been issued. I had only opened the sunroof about a dozen times and received no warning of the failure. Subaru has issued a vehicle recall 26V346 which also results in a loose glass roof as a recognized safety risk including crash, fire, health, injury. Please encourage Hyundai to recognize the safety risk of a potential crash or injury to other road users of a loose glass sunroof as Subaru has and not as a warranty issue.

reports

From owner reports, verbatim

I have been dealing with the oil consumption issues for this vehicle for about 2 years now. There are documented complaints and a class action lawsuit in California about this issue. Bottom line, the engine burns too much oil to be safely driven between oil changes without the owner checking and adding oil. My particular vehicle is burning just under 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. Hyundai’s owner manual suggests changing the oil every 7,500 miles, but the oil capacity is under 6 quarts. At the current rate, I would run out of oil before the suggested oil change interval. This is a severe safety issue as engines require oil to run correctly, not overheat, and lubricate all the moving parts. The previous generation Hyundai models also had similar oil consumption issues. Those vehicles had a NHTSA campaign which resulted in Hyundai being responsible to fix the engines. I believe a recall is proper given the safety concerns noted above. At a minimum, Hyundai should stand by their work and fix the issues as they arise.

While driving down the freeway my first row sunroof exploded. Insurance wouldn’t cover it because it is a manufacturer defect, but Hyundai wouldn’t cover it because it “isn’t a manufacturer defect.” The temperature outside when the sunroof exploded was 74 degrees and it was cloudy. Then less than 2 months later my engine got a rod knock even with oil changes every 5k miles. No warning signs for either and no lights on the dash. It just started when I started it to leave for work one morning.

reports

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving my 2021 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy AWD. The vehicle has experienced repeated engine and drivability problems and multiple breakdowns following replacement of the engine by Hyundai. The original engine developed excessive oil consumption and was ultimately replaced by Hyundai with a new engine. Following the engine replacement, the vehicle experienced numerous additional mechanical problems and repair attempts, including engine rattling/pinging, intake-manifold replacement, oil valve-seal replacement, multiple cylinder misfires, ignition-system problems and an ignition-coil failure. Most concerning are repeated incidents involving severe shaking/lurching, loss of engine power, stalling and failure to restart. During one incident following repairs, the vehicle ran extremely rough, stalled and would not restart after approximately 20 miles of driving and had to be towed back to the dealership. During another incident, the vehicle experienced heavy shaking on startup, stalled and had severely limited power. Diagnostic history showed misfires involving multiple cylinders. On June 29, 2026, at approximately 103,671 miles, I was driving at approximately 50 mph when the vehicle began to lurch and shake, lost power, stalled and would not restart. The vehicle had to be towed back to the Hyundai dealership. The unexpected loss of propulsion and stalling while traveling at approximately 50 mph created a serious safety concern because I could no longer rely upon the vehicle to maintain power in traffic. The dealership subsequently identified an ignition-coil short/failure and replaced an ignition coil. The vehicle has nevertheless continued to experience additional mechanical problems. The vehicle is currently again at the Hyundai dealership. It has generated diagnostic code P0430 for Bank 2 catalyst efficiency below threshold, and Hyundai has recommended replacement of both catalytic converter/manifold assemblies. Th

Component/system, available for inspection? Rear visibility system — AVN head unit's processing of the rear camera image. On shift to reverse, screen flickers, shows blinking green, or no rear image. Vehicle available for inspection. Original camera was replaced Jan 2026 and retained by the dealer, not returned. Safety risk? Daily driver used for school pickup. Failure is warm-restart dependent — engine running, repeated shifts into reverse — which is exactly the pickup-line condition. Rear visibility is lost while children move behind the vehicle. System works reliably only after 25+ minutes shut off. Reproduced/confirmed by a dealer? Yes. Crain Hyundai of Bentonville, RO H3CS1330630, 1/13/26. Camera replaced; failure persisted. Same RO then states the head unit "IS GETTING TOO HOT" and needs replacement. No further diagnosis performed. Inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance? Not directly. Hyundai Motor America reviewed (Cases 42288449 / 42326908 / 42619220) but relied solely on dealer diagnosis and confirmed in writing 6/22/26 that it does not audit dealer measurements. No police or insurance involvement. Warning lamps/symptoms, first appearance? First reported by my wife (primary driver) in June 2025; not reproducible on demand for some time, consistent with the intermittent warm-restart pattern later documented. No warning lamps, no DTCs in any accessible module. Only symptom is the display failure itself. 60+ structured tests logged 2/2–2/9/26 documenting the warm-restart pattern. Mileage 63,679 at service. Unresolved as of 8/3/26.

I am writing to formally request reconsideration of Hyundai’s denial of assistance for the transmission failure in my 2021 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that Hyundai vehicles are built to provide dependable transportation and that major components such as the transmission would last well beyond the current mileage and age of the vehicle. Unfortunately, I have experienced a significant transmission failure that has resulted in substantial repair costs. I have made every effort to properly maintain this vehicle and have acted responsibly as an owner. Given the relatively recent model year of the vehicle, I believe a transmission failure of this magnitude is unreasonable and may indicate a defect in materials or workmanship. I respectfully request that Hyundai review my case again and consider providing goodwill assistance, cost-sharing, or full coverage of the transmission repair. As a long-time consumer, I am extremely disappointed with the current outcome and hope Hyundai will stand behind its product. I would appreciate a written response explaining the reason for the denial and any options available for further review.

When driving at low speeds and going over bumps and speed bumps there is a thumping noise coming from the driver’s side rear. I’ve had the issue for quite some time now and there is a TSB on it for a faulty shock insulator. Between 2 different dealerships they have replaced it 3 times now and it’s doing it all over again. The last dealership has told me it is normal noise for the age and mileage of the vehicle.

My Palisade is burning oil at a rapid pace. I took it to the dealership and they said it was an acceptable level. I don't believe that to be correct. I have less than 100,000 miles on it.

NHTSA ID 11755709 · filed Aug 9, 2026

In May 2025, I contacted Hyundai regarding excessive oil consumption in my 2021 Palisade. In June, Hyundai directed me to take the vehicle to a dealership for testing. Under TSB 23-EM-008H ([XXX]), a failed oil consumption test requires engine replacement. My vehicle is covered under Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I have provided complete maintenance records and receipts for every oil change since purchasing the vehicle. Despite this, Hyundai has repeatedly denied my claim, citing maintenance issues and gross negligence without justification. Hyundai’s own guidance states that oil changes may be performed every 7,000 to 10,000 miles under normal conditions. The repeated testing process has worsened the engine condition. In addition, the dealership has returned the vehicle with missing bolts, oil-related issues, and damage resulting from an improper rear window film installation. I have made numerous attempts to resolve this matter and obtain the warranty coverage to which I am entitled, but Hyundai and the dealership have failed to do so. I am requesting one of the following remedies: (1) a full engine replacement in accordance with the warranty and TSB requirements, (2) a replacement vehicle of equal or greater trim level, or (3) reimbursement of all costs associated with leasing, purchasing, maintaining, and repairing this vehicle. We purchased this vehicle based on Hyundai’s reputation, ratings, and promise of “America’s Best Warranty.” We still like the vehicle itself, but the ongoing mechanical issues and Hyundai’s handling of this claim have been unacceptable. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rear Exhaust System How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Fire hazard as it was similar to a blowtorch, melted several rear panels, lights and trim while driving. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealership (Elyria Hyundai) requested a PA from Hyundai and it was authorized, but am having a very difficult time getting reimbursed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? I am not sure what the dealership did with the exhaust. At one point, I had requested to keep it for evidence. There are pictures. I suggested having the manufacturer look at it or at least Hyundai. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warnings. After a 2.5 hr trip, we got out; my children noticed the trim sticking out and melted off the rear right bumper. It was extremely hot to touch and the panels were bulging out from their normal position.

I originally brought the vehicle to the dealership for an unrelated infotainment system issue. While driving to the dealership, I noticed that the driver’s seat was rocking/moving, particularly while going downhill. I informed the dealership about the movement and asked them to inspect the seat while the vehicle was there. Upon inspection, the dealership determined that the driver’s seat frame had a weld failure. The vehicle had approximately 42,500 miles at the time. There were no warning lights or dashboard messages indicating a problem with the seat before I noticed the movement. This was not simply a cosmetic or comfort issue. The structural failure allowed the driver’s seat to move during normal vehicle operation. I am concerned that a failed weld in the driver’s seat frame could compromise the stability of the seat during normal driving and potentially during hard braking, an evasive maneuver, or a collision. The defect was identified and documented by the dealership. The vehicle has not been involved in an accident or other event that would explain the seat-frame weld failure. I reported the matter to the manufacturer and a case was opened. I am submitting this complaint because a structural weld failure in a driver’s seat at approximately 42,500 miles raises a safety concern and I believe NHTSA should determine whether similar failures are occurring in other vehicles. The vehicle/failed component can be made available for inspection if requested.

While vacationing in Myrtle Beach with my family the vehicle alarmed and then progressed to critical failure of safety functions while traveling at approximately 55mph on Friday April 3, 2026. The vehicle was brought to Myrtle Beach Hyundai where it was eventually diagnosed and repaired as an Alternator issue that I have found to be common with this specific vehicle. The issues I have experienced with this vehicle go far beyond a typical mechanical concern. Over time, the vehicle has exhibited repeated electrical system malfunctions, including: - False blind spot collision warnings when no vehicles are present - Intermittent failure of the crash avoidance system - Loss of cruise control functionality tied to system faults - A broader electrical failure event that triggered multiple warning systems simultaneously Most concerning, these failures have occurred while the vehicle was in motion, creating an unpredictable and potentially hazardous driving condition. The loss and unreliability of critical driver-assist and safety systems directly impacts driver awareness and vehicle control, which raises serious safety concerns. Despite multiple attempts to have this diagnosed through the dealership network while under warranty, no definitive root cause was identified, and the issue has persisted. This suggests the possibility of a systemic electrical defect rather than an isolated component failure. Additionally, I have found that similar complaints involving electrical system irregularities and cascading warning system failures have been reported by other owners of this model, further supporting the concern that this may represent a known or emerging defect pattern. Given these factors, I do not believe this situation should be categorized as routine. Instead, it warrants review under the lens of: - Vehicle safety risk - Potential defect trend - Failure of critical driver-assistance systems during operation This vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.

On August 4th 2023 we drove from home in Cedar Rapids to our daughter’s in Cottage Grove Wisconsin for a family event. Nearing Madison, somewhere in the area of Verona the Battery Warning Symbol came on in the instrument display. It was intermittent and we continued our journey to our daughter’s house in Cottage Grove. We called AAA and a “tow” truck came. The driver made a visual assessment of the condition of the battery and terminals and serpentine belt and looked at our multimeter readings of battery voltage. The alternator did cut in and the battery voltage went up. He advised that we continue driving it. It made a couple of two-mile trips to and from our hotel in Cottage Grove, with no display of the battery warning icon on the instrument display. On Sunday August 6 2023 we set off for home. The battery icon was not displayed. About 15 miles from departure while we were on the Madison Beltline Highway the following occurred without warning: •The central navigation display went blank •A number of different warnings came up on the instrument display •Power steering was lost •The emergency warning flashers and the direction indicators wouldn’t work •A lot of warning icons were displayed on the instrument display This was absolutely unacceptable and life shorteningly frightening. I won’t use curse words or s**t here but use your imagination. We were able to get to the hard shoulder without crashing. Surprisingly the engine was still running and we were very close to an exit (Fish Hatchery Road) so we were able to limp and wrestle it to a business’ parking area.

This is extremely frustrating as I am not able to use the tow capability that I paid for when purchasing this vehicle and according to the dealer, no fix has been provided. How do I complain? How do I get something done here? Thank you.
