2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

2025 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE – UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND UNEXPECTED BRAKING I am reporting multiple intermittent safety-related problems with my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee, VIN [XXX], involving Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), unexpected acceleration, and unexpected braking. While driving on the highway with ACC activated, the vehicle has on multiple occasions behaved unpredictably. When another vehicle enters or cuts into my lane, my Grand Cherokee does not always reduce speed as expected. On some occasions, the vehicle has accelerated even though another vehicle was directly ahead or entering my path. One of these incidents occurred before a collision. I was traveling in my lane with the driver-assistance/ACC system activated when another vehicle crossed into my path. My Jeep continued traveling forward and did not automatically slow or brake sufficiently in response to the vehicle entering my path. When I manually applied the brakes, there was not enough distance remaining to avoid the collision. I have also experienced approximately two incidents on the highway involving unexpected aggressive braking. When I manually touched the brake pedal, the instrument cluster displayed a red warning and the vehicle suddenly applied extremely hard braking. The braking response was substantially more aggressive than the brake input I was providing. In addition, on one occasion while leaving my office at low speed, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated without my intentionally commanding the acceleration. The Adaptive Cruise Control and driver-assistance system were OFF at the time. This incident is particularly concerning because it occurred independently of ACC operation. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized Jeep dealership and I reported all of these conditions. The dealership advised me that because the problems are intermittent, if they cannot duplicate the condition they cannot determine what repair to perform. They proposed ext INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

The transmission fails constantly when we are accelerating - approxx 50-58 miles per hour the transmission freezes & the RMP's stay @ 4-5 thousand for 20-30 seconds - it fails to downshift. This is extremely dangerous at any time & can cause a major accident if the vehicle is stuck & you need to stop! We have have left the car several times for this issue & they keep telling us they cannot replicate the issue. (We are older & we are given looks like we are nuts)

The jeep is towed behind our camper. When the camper truck turns, the wheels on the jeep stay straight and drag the jeep through the turn sideways. On a highway off ramp with a curve at higher speed the jeep wants to pull the camper off the edge. Lane assist is off but I was forced to pick something below. The issue is with the jeep steering not tracking behind the camper causing a hazardous condition going on curves. The wheels turn with the steering wheel but not when being towed. All procedures to flat tow are being followed per the owners manual. There is a technical service bulletin published in May 2025 by Chrysler about “dragging” tires and it is not resolved.

I am having issues with the screen in my vehicle going black. The dealership repair facility keeps pushing me to Case Number S258A000007 and says that my rear camera and safety features are not impacted, but as you can see from the video and pictures, they are. I have tried contacting the manufacturer with no return call. The dealership repair facility said they will not touch my vehicle, so I am left with an intermediate safety feature issue.

Subject: Forward Collision Warning Plus and Advanced Brake Assist Failure – 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I am reporting a safety defect involving the Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus and Advanced Brake Assist systems on my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The vehicle does not provide forward collision warnings or apply assistive braking in situations where a collision is imminent. On multiple occasions, a vehicle in front of me slowed or stopped while turning into a driveway or parking lot. My Jeep provided no visual alert, no audible warning, and no braking assistance. I had to manually brake to avoid rear‑ending the other vehicles. I brought the vehicle to the dealership. During testing, the system could not be activated on my Jeep. We then tested another Jeep of the same model and year; its system also failed to activate until we were within approximately three feet of the vehicle ahead. My Jeep never activated at any distance. The dealership stated that because Adaptive Cruise Control slows the vehicle when active, the collision warning and brake assist systems must also be functioning. This explanation is inconsistent with how these systems are designed to operate, and it does not address the failure of the Forward Collision Warning Plus system to activate in real‑world or controlled conditions. This appears to be a systemic failure of the collision‑avoidance technology on this model, creating a significant risk of rear‑end collisions.

On multiple occasions, the transmission does not respond to gear changes such as moving from drive to reverse or park into drive. On those occasions, the D for drive would be blinking. More concerning and very dangerous is a lack of propulsion mid drive, the transmission would not go into gear. The engine would rev high, and it would not move forward, except by whatever momentum it originally had. This has happened to me on at least four occasions two of which I was in the left lane of three and four lane wide streets with cars passing me at high speed on the right. I needed to pull over turn the car off and then on again, which is the only way that the transmission would start working again. Sometimes the transmission would be jerky, especially after those incidents. crossing three and four lanes while people are going 50 and 60 miles an hour is a very dangerous situation when you have no power. The car is a new car. I have had it for only two months and it has been doing this intermittently the entire time. This has been at the dealer for service two times so far and has not been able to be replicated, however, I do have one incident on video. There were no warning lamps messages, and there are no error codes that are found by the dealer.

The current recall is unable to happen as it has to be over 50 degrees. This is the second major recall in under one year. I have had issues with the radio, apple car play, the engine dying while in park and idling. Additionally, the vehicle suddenly lost power while driving it at 65 mph on a major highway when trying to pass. The only answers I get is the lemon law. This vehicle is not safe, the dealer has only offered for me to trade out of it into something extremely higher of payment. I am requesting a dealer buyback due to major safety concerns. This vehicle should not even be on the market. The acceleration issues continue and I am DONE!

Vehicle engine shutoff while driving which led to no acceleration. No warning lamps prior to failure. It just completely shutoff and on the message center it stated how to start the vehicle as if it was not already started and running. I was in electric mode.

I recently had recall work done. I picked the vehicle up on December 23, 2025, and the vehicle is not charging properly or driving well. When plugged into the level 2 charger it took 10 plus hours to charge when it used to take 2.5 hours to charge. The vehicle is also not driving well now. As soon as you take your foot off the gas it’s almost like a major brake is being applied. It’s not safe to drive this way. I have contacted the dealer and will take it back on Monday, December 29, 2025.

My 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe began with an intense burning smell followed by the “Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle” warning light illuminating. After this, the vehicle experienced numerous electrical issues with the infotainment system, and the air conditioning failed. At one point, both the service and battery lights came on and the car lost all power, would not shift from park, and could not move. The service light continued to illuminate a total of eight times. During the seventh and eighth occurrences, the vehicle became unsafe: once while stopped, the electric and motor systems appeared to fight for power, and the next time while traveling around 55 mph, the car suddenly lost power and rapidly decelerated, creating a serious risk of a rear-end collision. This problem has been reproduced by the dealership, who attempted to replace the Module Control Module without success. Dealership and myself contacted the manufacturer and were told there is currently no fix and to “hang tight” until one is available. Due to the severity and ongoing nature of the issue, I have also filed a claim with NCDS USA for further support.

While driving vehicle goes into limp mode I lose acceleration but RPMs on dashboard jump into the red zone and various warning lights show up I coast off to the side and put vehicle in park and shut off engine. When I restart everything clears and vehicle is normal again. This happened 3 times so far and dealer had the car 12 days and cannot duplicate the problem saying no codes show up show up on the scanner.

*The AEB light comes on saying Limited Functionality Service required. We have Taken it to the dealer and they service department said no codes for that problem showed up and said if it did it again pull into any dealership and have them check it. It happens constantly so it happened right when in front of one of their dealership so we pulled in and they checked again and it did come up showing an electrical issue. They saw our pictures I was continuing to take of the dash showing how often it comes up. So I did just that and had a photo book, the size of a wedding album showing how it went off sometimes every two hours. *Then the lane depart doesn't work, it will not vibrate, which we have all the settings on and set to the highest setting. *The warning for cross traffic when in reverse doesn't always work sometimes it won't even go off when someone walks close to the back of vehicle. * On just a few occasion the rear door will not close when button is pushed, we have to physically close it. *Sometimes it will continually slam on the breaks when we try to back out of our garage, taken several times of me putting in park and trying again. *Also sometimes when backing out it won't drive when I put in drive, I have to put in park, then move it to drive. *It is currently in the dealership, they have had it for 4 days and cannot figure it out but acknowledge it is happening.

On multiple occasions now, my shifter starts blinking at me and the dash tells me to shift into park and then shift into desired gear. This is quite annoying is baffling and dangerous. Also, on multiple occasions the dash lights up it goes crazy beeping like crazy like it wants me to stop and there’s nothing in front of me for me to need to stop. This could be potentially very dangerous. I see others have had issues like this as well so I think we really need to do something about this for somebody does get hurt cause it locks up it doesn’t let you go anywhere until you put it in park and put it in gear Not safe

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my deep frustration and serious concerns regarding the repeated and dangerous failures I have experienced with the battery systems in three separate Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles – model years 2022, 2024, and now 2025 4xe. In each case, I encountered a complete battery failure within the first 3,000 miles of the car’s life. These failures have not only rendered the vehicles completely inoperable but have completely shut down all functionality while driving, leaving me stranded on the road an outright dangerous design flaw with zero warning or alert of malfunction. At first, I considered the possibility of coincidence or simple bad luck. Now, it is evident this is a systemic and known issue that Stellantis/Jeep has failed to address. It is absolutely unacceptable that a brand-new Jeep product could exhibit such a fundamental reliability defect, and even more troubling that no proactive support or acknowledgment has been provided to affected consumers like myself. This is disgraceful, inexcusable, and beneath the standards expected of any automaker, let alone one that charges a premium for its products. This situation also raises serious questions about the strategic direction the company may have taken under their former CEO, Carlos Tavares, whose well-documented focus on near-term cost-cutting and margin improvements appears to be manifesting in subpar quality control and dangerous engineering compromises. I demand to know what Stellantis is prepared to do in response to the severe design flaw and associated safety risks with the new battery and electrical systems in their Jeep products.

Traveling at around 55 MPH, slowed down for a stop light. Dash started flashing and beeping and stated "shift to park then shift to desired gear." Could not accelerate, had to put in park then back in drive to keep moving. No check engine light. 2 dealerships cannot fix because there's no code. Seems to be a common occurrence on Jeep forums. Afraid this will happen again on the interstate and I will get rear ended or not be able to get off the road. Major safety concern!

brand new 2025 jeep grand Cherokee less than 3 weeks old - I just got into an accident last night on the freeway my car began to decelerate and accelerator completely stopped working. I noticed an AEBS alert and engine light on the dash but came close to no other cars for this to have come on. Came to a complete stop and I look down and the car is in park. I was unable to put the car back in drive on the freeway. Put on my hazards and called 911 immediately, knowing how dire the situations was, while trying to find a way to get moving, and watched as I was rear ended by a pickup going full speed.
