What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2017 Kia Sedona, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

When driving at night all of the lights on the vehicle go out, but the engine continues to run normally. After 10 -15 seconds the lights come back on and the display has the low tire indicator illuminated. This has happened multiple times. Since the same year I bought my 2017 kia Sedona L which was [XXX], from Orlando Kia North, Longwood florida; I have been having an electrical safety issue. The wipers turn on by themselves front and rear and I can't turn them off. In addition to this problem I've been having for almost 5 years now, the highbeam will also at different times do the same thing, turn on by itself. My headlights have also turned off on one or two occasions as well. In around August of 2019 I first took my vehicle in with the complaint and several times afterwards. The first 2 times they couldn't duplicate the issue so nothing was done. After that they said they found a short and replaced the clock spring then after that it was a short in the multifunction switch. Neither of these replacements have resolved the issue. I believe the owner before me had the same problem and this is the reason why they traded the vehicle and Kia never fixed the problem and just resold it as is, without notifying me of the issue. Also in this time period I started noticing water getting into the rear gate. On [XXX] the grommet was replaced, I took it back again and the washer line was replaced. Til today I still have the same problem. I gave up hope with Kia after speaking to supervisors and managers, I called their headquarters spoke with Melissa Hyatt I was given a case # which I still have on file, but all she did was redirect me back to the dealership. I also filed a complaint with you (NHTSA) and still have my complaint # 11337324 within my files, but didn't receive any response. I am still paying for this vehicle and would love some assistance with my safety problems that many others seem to be dealing with as I have noticed the same complaint for this same vehicle have been submitted. Look forward to hearing from someone soon. Thank you and sorry for such the long explanation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My 2017 Kia Sedona has has regular oil changes about every 3000 miles. I was not due for an oil change quite yet and a ticking noise coming from the engine started to occur. I made an appointment at the Kia dealership right away. Just a few days before my appointment there was no warning light for the oil or engine until the engine failed, went limp and I lost power steering control, the brakes went stiff and all of the lights came on at once. It was very scary for me and my two children to lose that control of the vehicle. It can be inspected at Berlin City Kia where it currently sits and is in need of a replacement engine. After much research I have seen that this is a known issue for Kia engines and for some reason the 2017 Sedona is not included in any extended warranty's. Please investigate this. I did ask Kia for help in covering the replacement engine but was denied by the woman who I spoke to on the phone. I still put in a claim online anyway. It has been inspected by Berlin City Kia and they said there was "significant rod knocking". They are quoting me $9880 to replace the engine. After regular oil changes for the time that I have owned this vehicle and especially after I has the oil pressure sensor leak addressed as well over the last few years, it should not have died prematurely as it did. I am worried that the oil leaking so badly at that time may have pooled in the back of the engine which could have led to the rods wearing which in turn led to them knocking in the future. What else could cause this to happen? And so many other customers have complained about this exact issue. Please investigate this.
We noticed coolant leaking. We took it to a dealer and they replaced coolant control assembly/ temperature control piece. Also the O-ring that connecting to the engine was leaking. However, this is the 2nd time we are replacing the piece in 3months (not the o-ring). We did that. And spent $900 on it. As soon as we drove it 11miles home, there was oil and coolant leaking again. Took it right back. And there was fluid in the engine. Guy believes it's the head gasket. Out car isn't running. We don't know if we should replace, or junk it and have a loss of money. We are so frustrated. We have 125,000 miles. There were no warnings, no lights, just us noticing the coolant leaking, and the reservoir being full. We have pictures and have taken it to multiple mechanics and dealers.

I PURCHASED A 2017 KIA SEDONA FROM A KIA DEALER IN QUEENS, NY, IN 2017 WITH 50 MILES. I HAD AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION AT AROUND 65,000 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH A RELATIVE AND MY CHILDREN ON NEW YEAR'S EVE 12/31/20. WHEN I INITIALLY STARTED THE CAR, I HEARD A RATTLING SOUND, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER; HOWEVER, AS I DROVE OFF AND DROVE FURTHER AND APPROACHED THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE. AFTER THE CAR DECELERATED, THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IN A PANIC, I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE. I HAD TO REPEAT TURNING THE CAR ON, THE CAR SHUTTING OFF AND DECELERATING, TURNING THE CAR ON, AND DRIVING TEN MILES TO RETURN HOME. THE VERY NEXT DAY, 1/1/2021 THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT HANDLED MY LEASE BUYOUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXHIBITED PROFESSIONALISM AND OFFERED EXCEPTIONAL SERVICES TO ENSURE THAT I UNDERSTOOD THE REPAIR PROCESS. HE INFORMED OF CHARGES THAT WOULD BE INCURRED IF KIA DID NOT COVER THE WARRANTY. KIA WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT RECEIPTS WERE REQUIRED TO DOCUMENT OIL CHANGES PERFORMED ON THE 2017 KIA SEDONA. SERVICE RECEIPTS FROM KIA DEALERSHIPS WERE PROVIDED; HOWEVER, ADDITIONAL RECEIPTS WERE REQUIRED. I CONTACTED THE KIA CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE CUSTOMER SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE EXHIBITED PROFESSIONALISM AND ADVISED ME TO GET RECEIPTS OF OIL PURCHASES FOR ANY OIL CHANGES DONE OUTSIDE OF A SERVICE SHOP. DUE TO LIMITATIONS IN RETRIEVING RECEIPTS WITHIN A CERTAIN TIMEFRAME, I AM UNABLE TO PRODUCE ADDITIONAL RECEIPTS. I AM WITHOUT MY CAR FOR ONE AND A HALF MONTHS, I AM RENTING A CAR WHILE PAYING MY MONTHLY FINANCE BILL, AND KIA WILL NOT HONOR MY WARRANTY BECAUSE OF A LACK OF RECEIPTS OF OIL CHANGES, ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY CAR SERVICED IN NOVEMBER 2020 AT A KIA DEALERSHIP.
