1999 Mazda B-Series Truck Body & structure Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the body or structure system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Body & structure reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

FRAME IS RUSTED THREW AT REAR LEFT SPRING SHACKLE BRACKET ALONG WITH REAR SPRING SHACKLES. IS MAZDA ADDRESSING THIS AS TOYOTA DID? I UNDERSTAND THIS IS COMMON MAZDA TRUCKS AND FORD RANGERS.

MY FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I WENT TO GET THE TRUCK INSPECTED AND MY MECHANIC SAID THE FRAME WAS VERY THIN. HE SAID THAT IT MAY NOT EVEN LAST ANOTHER YEAR AND THAT NEXT YEAR IF HE DOES INSPECTION THE FRAME MAKE BREAK WHILE ON THE LIFT! I LIVE IN MAINE AND HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE TRUCK, WASHING IT REGULARLY. SEEMS LIKE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS UNSETTLING. THE TRUCK IS IS IN GREAT SHAPE OTHERWISE. I WISH I COULD GET MORE MILES OUT OF IT. SEEMS LIKE SUCH A WASTE.... .ONLY 97,000 MILES ON IT.

10 YEARS IN NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA HAVE CAUSED LITTLE TO NO RUST ON 3 OTHER FORD VEHICLES IN THE FAMILY, BUT MY TRUCK GOT HIT WITH AN EXTREME CASE OF RUST. NO MAJOR OFFROADING OR MUDDING, NO JUMPING/ABUSING THE TRUCK WHATSOEVER. TOYOTA RECALLED THE FRAMES OF THEIR PICKUPS, AND I *BELIEVE* THAT FORD GOT THEIR FRAMES FROM THE SAME STEEL MANUFACTURER. I SPECULATE THAT STEEL MANUFACTURER, AND/OR FORD, DID NOT "DIP" THESE FRAMES IN ANY ANTI-RUST FORMULA. FRAME RUST/ROT/CRACKING ON A 1999 MAZDA B4000 4X4 (THE TRUCK IS/WAS MADE BY FORD, 98% THE SAME AS A FORD RANGER). REAR LEAFSPRING SHACKLES FULLY CORRODED AND EXTREME RUST AROUND SPARETIRE CARRIER. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE LATE 90'S - EARLY 2000'S RANGERS. NEW REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES WERE ADDED IN PLACE OF THE ROTTED OUT SHACKLES. FRAME WAS WELDED ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AT REAR UPPER SHOCK MOUNT WHERE FRAME CRACKED. IT IS NOW CRACKED AGAIN. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN THROUGH ANY ABUSE. IT'S BEEN PRIMARILY A HIGHWAY VEHICLE IN THE FAMILY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 MAZDA B4000. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IN HIS VEHICLE WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE FORCED HIM TO PULL OVER WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. HE REMOVED THE BULBS. IN ADDITION, THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED, WHICH COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY WORN DOWN THE BATTERY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE HIS COMPLAINT, BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 148,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. UPDATED 05/14/09. *LJ THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY DOOR SWITCH.

WIND TUNNEL AFFECTS DRIVING AND RAIN IS COMING THROUGH DRIVER'S DOOR. TRUCK HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY DAMAGED AND REPAIRED, UNKNOWN TO THE OWNER--FENDER AND DOOR ARE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, AND THERE IS A GAP BETWEEN DRIVER DOOR AND BODY, ALLOWING RAIN AND WIND TO COME IN. HOOD HAS ALSO BEEN REFINISHED. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM, STILL EXISTS. *AK *ML

RIGHT FRONT DOOR DIFFICULT TO OPEN-IT STICKS FREQUENTLY, AND THEN RELUCTANTLY OPENS. I NOTIFIED DEALER DURING PREPURCHASE FOR REPAIR- AT TIME OF SALE WAS TOLD THEY LUDRICATED IT AND THAT IT WOULD GET BETTER AS THE VEHICLE BROKE-IN. THE PROBLEM INITIALLY DID GET BETTER, BUT NOW IT'S WORSE THAN BEFORE.

THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR ON THIS TRUCK DOES NOT SOUND TIGHT WHEN IT IS CLOSED. (I ORIGINALLY REPORTED LEST, WRONG DOOR.) THE DOOR DOES NOT SOUND "SOUND" WHEN IT IS SHUT. THE SOUND IS A TINNY SOUND, ALMOST AS IF INSULATION HADE BEEN LEFT OUT OR WHATEVER PRODUCT IS USED BETWEEN THE DOORS....

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
