2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC Electrical Problems

I own a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC. My vehicle has multiple unresolved high-voltage battery safety recalls. Recall 25V050/MBUSA campaign 2025040005 concerns a potential internal battery-cell short circuit and fire risk. I had the BMS software update performed, but Mercedes later issued recall 26V073 because the software remedy was not considered sufficient for all affected vehicles. Recall 26V073 requires complete high-voltage battery replacement. Until that repair is completed, Mercedes instructs owners to park outside and away from structures and limit charging to 80%. My vehicle also shows recall 25V487/MBUSA campaign 2025070009 as pending. This recall concerns a battery busbar connection that could cause sudden loss of propulsion without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Despite the ongoing fire-risk and loss-of-propulsion concerns, I have not been provided a firm, VIN-specific date for the battery replacement. The safety restrictions significantly limit my ability to use and safely park the vehicle. I am concerned that the permanent remedy remains unavailable while I continue to make lease payments.

I am the owner of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB that has been identified as being affected by the current high-voltage battery safety recall. I recently contacted my authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer regarding the recall and was informed that the recall is currently pending for my vehicle and that the permanent remedy is not expected to begin until approximately December. I understand that the interim safety guidance associated with this recall includes limiting charging to 80% and parking the vehicle outside and away from structures. I have a significant concern regarding the parking instruction. My vehicle is normally parked in an attached garage at my condominium. The garage is connected to my residence, and my HOA does not permit me to park the vehicle outside. Therefore, I do not have a practical way to comply with the instruction to park outside and away from structures. I specifically raised this issue with the service department. I was told verbally that I could continue parking the vehicle in my garage “at my discretion.”

I am reporting a safety concern because my vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall 25V050, which identifies a risk that the high-voltage battery could fail internally and cause a fire while parked or driving. It is also subject to NHTSA Recall 25V487, which identifies a defect involving the high-voltage battery bus-bar connection that may cause a sudden loss of drive power without warning. A battery fire could endanger vehicle occupants and people or property near a parked vehicle. A sudden loss of propulsion while driving could increase the risk of a crash. I have not personally experienced a vehicle fire or a sudden loss of drive power. However, I am being asked to continue operating and making lease payments on a vehicle with identified high-voltage battery safety defects and no completed effective remedy available for my vehicle. The currently available guidance limits charging to 80%, which reduces the vehicle’s usable range and practical value. The vehicle’s recall status has been confirmed through NHTSA and Mercedes-Benz recall information. To my knowledge, no dealer repair has been completed that eliminates these safety concerns. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or an independent service center in connection with an incident because no crash, fire, or loss-of-power event has occurred. Before any failure, I have not observed a warning lamp, warning message, or other battery-related symptom. My concern is that Recall 25V487 describes a potential sudden loss of drive power without warning, and Recall 25V050 identifies a potential battery-fire risk, including while the vehicle is parked.

There is a recall associated with this model that causes catastrophic stoppage without any ability to drive. My vehicle VIN does not have a recall according to your site. Despite this, my vehicle catastrophically stopped multiple times. It was repaired at least three times and still stopped in the middle of the highway. My partner and I were stopped on I-85S with no ability to move, honk, put on hazards. Cars zoomed past at full speed. I called 911 as we braced for impact. We are lucky to be alive and now suffer from severe trauma. They eventually closed the entire highway and dragged the vehicle to the shoulder almost 30 min later. Mbusa was aware of this defect before rejecting my lemon law claim, but my vehicle was not included apparently. I feel more investigation is needed because it seems very likely my vehicle should be included in the recall. I appreciate your attention to this matter.

I am reporting a significant safety concern regarding my 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB. While my specific VIN has not been included in the current high-voltage battery fire risk recall (NHTSA Campaign 26V073000), my vehicle is a 2023 model that shares the identical high-voltage battery architecture, manufacturing window, and platform design as the approximately 12,000 EQB vehicles officially recalled due to an internal defect that causes sudden, unpredictable battery fires. As a vehicle owner, I am now experiencing deep, well-founded anxiety regarding the safety of this vehicle. Due to the proximity of my vehicle's design to those definitively identified as defective, I have lost confidence in the vehicle's safe operation. I can no longer park this vehicle in an enclosed garage or charge it with confidence, effectively limiting my ability to utilize the vehicle as intended. I received an official recall notice from Mercedes-Benz regarding my EQB due to a defect involving the high-voltage battery system. According to the recall notice, the battery may experience an internal failure that could potentially result in a fire while the vehicle is either parked or being driven. Mercedes-Benz has also advised owners to limit charging and park the vehicle outside due to the severity of the safety risk. At this time, Mercedes-Benz has not provided a permanent repair remedy or battery replacement. Because I no longer feel safe driving or storing the vehicle, I have left it at the dealership and am currently using a loaner vehicle while attempting to reach a fair and reasonable resolution with Mercedes-Benz. Given the serious safety concerns associated with this recall and the lack of an available repair, I do not believe the current offer being presented by Mercedes-Benz adequately resolves the situation. During my first conversation with Mercedes, I was clearly told that I had two options: trade into another lease or have Mercedes repurchase the vehicle at no cost to me. At no point during that initial conversation was I told that repurchase was unlikely or subject to higher-level approval. $7,500 does not address the core issue, which is that I am still left in a lease for a vehicle I do not feel safe driving or storing. This is fundamentally a safety and usability issue, not simply a financial inconvenience. I am simply asking Mercedes to stand behind its product and provide a reasonable resolution for a leased vehicle that has been deemed subject to a serious fire-risk recall without a current repair remedy.

Compounded Electrical Failures In addition to the battery defect, this specific vehicle has exhibited recurring electrical malfunctions, including: Total failure of the backup cameras and parking sensors. Intermittent failure of the HVAC system (Air Conditioning), critical in the Florida climate. Erratic Autonomous Braking: The vehicle has repeatedly engaged emergency braking while reversing without cause, nearly resulting in multiple collisions. Diminished Utility and Breach of Lease Expectations The "interim" instructions provided by Mercedes-Benz have fundamentally altered the vehicle’s functionality from the terms established at the start of my lease: Charge Limitation: The "MUST NOT exceed 80%" mandate reduces the vehicle's range and utility, failing to meet the deliverable of a fully functional EV. Parking Restrictions: The requirement to park outside for fear of a garage fire is an unreasonable burden that violates the expected use of a luxury vehicle. Failure to Remedy within a Reasonable Time (49 U.S.C. § 30120) Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, specifically 49 U.S.C. § 30120(c)(2), a manufacturer’s failure to remedy a defect within 60 days of a vehicle being presented or a notice being issued constitutes prima facie evidence of a failure to remedy within a reasonable time. The notice for Recall 26V073 was issued in March 2026. As of today, May 11, 2026, more than 60 days have passed without an actionable remedy or a definitive timeline for repair. There have been ZERO warnings or indications of the above mentioned.

Dear NHTSA Safety Team, I am submitting a formal safety-related complaint regarding my 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 250, which is currently under an active high-voltage battery recall. The recall imposes significant safety restrictions, including an 80% charging limit, a requirement to park the vehicle outside due to fire risk, and the inability to safely charge the vehicle at home. Additionally, I have been advised by my dealership that DC fast charging should not be used, further limiting the vehicle’s usability. Mercedes-Benz has informed me that the remedy requires a full high-voltage battery replacement, which may take many months (until at least December). In the meantime, the vehicle is not usable as a daily vehicle due to the combined safety and charging restrictions. I have attempted to work with Mercedes-Benz USA to obtain an appropriate remedy for this loss of use, but I have been told that only minimal options are available, and my request for executive-level review has been denied. Currently this is my only means of transportation and I do not feel safe at all driving it. I contacted Mercedes Benz for a buyback or loaner. No one senna to be concerned. The fire risk puts me and my children life in danger. I rent my house and have renter’s insurance but a vehicle fire will not be covered if damage occurs

The high-voltage battery cells in my vehicle, supplied by Farasis Energy, are prone to internal short circuits that can cause thermal runaway and vehicle fire. This defect poses a serious risk of fire while the vehicle is parked or in operation. Mercedes-Benz USA has acknowledged this defect through three separate recall campaigns (25V050, 25V894, and 26V073). The first two remedies — software updates — failed to prevent fires, including post-repair fires reported in Europe. Mercedes-Benz subsequently committed to full battery replacement as the only effective fix, but has not made repair scheduling available until approximately December 30, 2026. In the interim, Mercedes-Benz has instructed owners to: (1) park and charge exclusively outdoors, (2) limit charging to 80% of battery capacity. These extraordinary restrictions confirm that the vehicle remains a fire risk and is currently unfit for safe normal use.

I am writing to formally notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that Mercedes-Benz USA has failed to remedy a known safety defect within a reasonable amount of time, pursuant to 49 U.S.C. § 30120. This notification is submitted in relation to the recall issued under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act regarding the high-voltage battery cells in the 2023 EQB. The manufacturer has acknowledged that an internal short circuit within the battery cells may lead to a vehicle fire while driving or parked. Despite this, a timely and effective remedy has not been provided, leaving me to manage the following severe burdens: • Safety and Psychological Distress: Every time I operate this vehicle, I experience significant anxiety. My primary concern is the safety of my grandchildren; I am constantly haunted by the question of whether I could safely extricate them from the vehicle should it ignite while in motion. • Property and Liability Concerns: I am currently forced to park the vehicle away from other cars and structures to mitigate the risk of a conflagration. I am deeply concerned about my legal and financial obligations should the vehicle ignite and cause damage to third-party property or result in personal injury. • Diminished Performance: The vehicle currently exhibits a decreased mileage range, failing to meet the performance specifications promised at the time of lease. • Breach of Lease Terms: I am required to make full monthly lease payments as per my agreement. However, Mercedes-Benz is failing to uphold their portion of the contract by providing a vehicle that is safe, functional, and fit for its intended purpose. I request that the NHTSA investigate Mercedes-Benz’s delay in providing a definitive remedy and hold the manufacturer accountable for the loss of use and the inherent dangers posed by this defect. A car that "potentially could ignite into flames" at any moment is not a "remedied" vehicle under the law.

There has been fire hazard due to manufacturer defect (high voltage battery). It has been under recall since Feb 2025, and till date, no battery replacement has been provided despite of fire hazard. The instructions to keep car outside isn't practical to follow for more than year now! It is electric car whose charger is mounted inside garage. Besides there are car theft risk of parking outside. Manufacturer has been providing unreasonable instructions for long duration of time than resolving the problem, particularly when there is recall for fire hazard even when parked or driving. It is life safety issue for entire family and we cannot continue to use this vehicle

The vehicle experienced multiple electrical and safety-related malfunctions while driving. On several occasions the instrument cluster and vehicle screens suddenly went black while the vehicle was in motion, causing loss of critical driving information such as speed and warnings. In another incident the vehicle displayed a “High Voltage Malfunction” warning while driving and the vehicle shut down shortly after. This resulted in a sudden loss of propulsion and created a dangerous situation on the road. The vehicle has also displayed a “Coolant Too Hot – Stop Vehicle” warning which required replacement of the coolant pump at the dealership. In a separate event the vehicle lost battery charge unexpectedly after indicating a full charge and had to be towed to a charging station. The vehicle is also subject to Safety Recall 26V073 involving the high-voltage battery. According to the recall notice, the battery may fail due to an internal short circuit which could lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving. The manufacturer currently does not have a repair available and advises owners to limit the battery charge to 80% and park the vehicle outside when not in use due to the potential fire risk. These repeated failures combined with the unresolved safety recall raise serious concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. The issues began around September 2024 and have continued through multiple repair visits into March 2026.
