2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC Fuel system Problems

There is a recall associated with this model that causes catastrophic stoppage without any ability to drive. My vehicle VIN does not have a recall according to your site. Despite this, my vehicle catastrophically stopped multiple times. It was repaired at least three times and still stopped in the middle of the highway. My partner and I were stopped on I-85S with no ability to move, honk, put on hazards. Cars zoomed past at full speed. I called 911 as we braced for impact. We are lucky to be alive and now suffer from severe trauma. They eventually closed the entire highway and dragged the vehicle to the shoulder almost 30 min later. Mbusa was aware of this defect before rejecting my lemon law claim, but my vehicle was not included apparently. I feel more investigation is needed because it seems very likely my vehicle should be included in the recall. I appreciate your attention to this matter.

The permanent remedy is replacement of the high-voltage battery pack. However, my Mercedes-Benz dealer has informed me that the replacement parts will not be available until 2027. That means I am being asked to operate a vehicle with an acknowledged fire risk, under charging and parking restrictions, for roughly 18 months or more, with no remedy currently available. I am requesting that NHTSA document this lack of an available remedy and the extended timeline. A delay of this length leaves owners exposed to the safety defect the recall was issued to address.

MB recall is since Feb 2026 and they neither ready to fix it not ready to provide a proper compensation . The vehicle is currently unusable for the following reasons: 1. Safety Catch-22 (Fire vs. Theft): Due to the fire hazard associated with the current battery recall, I cannot safely charge or store the vehicle in my garage. However, the local Township Police have explicitly advised against keeping the car outside due to high theft risks in the area. Mercedes-Benz has essentially provided a vehicle that is neither safe to keep indoors nor secure to keep outdoors. 2. Home Charging Restrictions: I typically charge the vehicle at night; however, the current recall guidelines necessitate monitoring the charge to ensure it does not exceed 80%. I have no practical way to monitor this throughout the night, making home charging a safety liability. Public Infrastructure Failure: The EVgo charging network has blocked the Mercedes-Benz EQB model from their network due to these safety concerns. This further eliminates my ability to use the vehicle for standard commuting or travel. 3. Lack of Support and Loaner Access: Despite these documented safety risks, my local Mercedes-Benz dealer has refused to provide a loaner vehicle, stating they are awaiting specific instructions from corporate. This leaves me without a safe mode of transportation while I continue to pay for a vehicle I cannot use. 4. Financial Loss: I am currently paying monthly insurance premiums of approx $300, car payments of $529, and have recently invested in new tires for a vehicle (~$1200) that is sitting idle. The car is subject to a NHTSA recall 26V073. Mercedes has scheduled warranty repair for December 31, 2026, or more than 9 months from now. Our dealer advises that the scheduled date is just a holding date; there is no assurance that the repair will occur on or before that date. Mercedes has also said in writing that "the battery replacement remedy is not yet available" and that we should complain to NHTSA if Mercedes does not fix this problem in a reasonable time. In the meantime, we are instructed to park the car outside and not to charge it more than 80%. (We've programmed it not to charge over 80%.) Even still, we are at risk that the car will burst into flames, potentially while we are in it, possibly with our grandchildren in the back seat. The other solution Mercedes has is that we should lease a different model at three times the cost of our present lease, thereby shifting the cost of this warranty issue onto us.

In December 2024, I brought my 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB to Mercedes-Benz Beverly Hills for scheduled service. They told me the vehicle had a recall and booked me for a future appointment, but I was unable to attend because I was out of town. I called the dealer multiple times afterwards to reschedule, but they never told me the reason for the recall or explained the safety risk. I recently checked my VIN myself and discovered that the recall is related to a high-voltage battery defect that may cause sudden loss of power and battery fire. I was never properly informed by Mercedes-Benz about this serious safety hazard. I rely on this vehicle to transport my two young children. This is an electric vehicle with a battery fire risk and possible loss of power at highway speeds. Mercedes-Benz has not provided a remedy, repair, loaner vehicle, or timeline. I am requesting NHTSA assistance to ensure Mercedes-Benz addresses this safety recall or provides a safe replacement or loaner vehicle until repairs are available.

Mercedes performed a recall and stated the charging would increase only by 10-15 minutes. For my vehicle it is now exceeding 30-45 minutes to get to the same state of charge at a fast charger such as electrify America. Mercedes refuses to do anything about this, instead they want me to drive around with a defective battery which still has a potential to catch on fire.
