Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full
Data refreshed
Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows
Our database holds 6 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2001 Mitsubishi Caribbean Montero. Each one is a report filed by an owner or driver and published by NHTSA without most of them being verified. A complaint is not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. Narratives are shown exactly as filed.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

(1) STARTED HEARING NOISES FROM BOTH FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY'S (FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS) (2) TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE STATION WHERE THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM - THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD GET WORSE IF I KEPT DRIVING IT, BUT AT THE TIME I COULD NOT AFFORD $312/PER BEARING PLUS LABOR = OVER $800 IN REPAIRS. I DROVE THE CAR 2 MORE DAYS AND THE WHEEL BEARINGS LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING - THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP, VEERED OFF TO THE LEFT OF THE ROAD... (3) I FOUND THE PARTS CHEAPER ON THE INTERNET ($233/PER HUB) AND HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC INSTALL THEM AND SAVED HUNDREDS. **WHILE SEARCHING FOR THE PARTS, I FOUND SEVERAL OTHER BULLETINS, NOTICES EVEN ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, AND PLENTY OF UNHAPPY 2001 MONTERO CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE HAD TO SPEND NEARLY $1,000 TO REPLACE BOTH HUB ASSEMBLY'S **I THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT THESE HUBS ARE GOING BAD FOR SUCH A NEW VEHICLE... WHY ISN'T THIS BEING RECALLED?????

THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES. ALSO, SHE STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT COMPLETELY DEPLOY. Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
