Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 Mitsubishi Caribbean Montero, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

(1) STARTED HEARING NOISES FROM BOTH FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY'S (FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS) (2) TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE STATION WHERE THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM - THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD GET WORSE IF I KEPT DRIVING IT, BUT AT THE TIME I COULD NOT AFFORD $312/PER BEARING PLUS LABOR = OVER $800 IN REPAIRS. I DROVE THE CAR 2 MORE DAYS AND THE WHEEL BEARINGS LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING - THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP, VEERED OFF TO THE LEFT OF THE ROAD... (3) I FOUND THE PARTS CHEAPER ON THE INTERNET ($233/PER HUB) AND HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC INSTALL THEM AND SAVED HUNDREDS. **WHILE SEARCHING FOR THE PARTS, I FOUND SEVERAL OTHER BULLETINS, NOTICES EVEN ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, AND PLENTY OF UNHAPPY 2001 MONTERO CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE HAD TO SPEND NEARLY $1,000 TO REPLACE BOTH HUB ASSEMBLY'S **I THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT THESE HUBS ARE GOING BAD FOR SUCH A NEW VEHICLE... WHY ISN'T THIS BEING RECALLED?????
