1995 Mitsubishi Galant Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE GAS PEDAL IS STIFF. UPON QUICK ACCELERATION, THE THROTTLE IS STUCK WIDE OPEN, MAKING THE ENGINE RACE TO MAXIMUM RPM'S AND THE CAR CAN REACH IT'S MAXIMUM SPEED. THE GAS PEDAL HAS TO BE KICKED REPEATEDLY, TO GET THE CAR TO DECCELARATE. THIS HAS OCCURED MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS, BUT WE COULD NEVER DUPLICATE ON DEMAND. I CAN NOW DUPLICATE IT ON DEMAND. I WONDER IF ANY ONE ELSE HAS REPORTED THIS PROBLEM WITH 1995-1998 GALANTS ?*AK

WHILE ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY, THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED (IT WAS NOT TURNED ON) AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UP TO 80+ MPH. I PRESSED THE OFF BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL, BRAKED AND TRIED OTHER MEASURES BUT NOTHING WAS SLOWING THE CAR DOWN. I PUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL TO TRY AND SLOW THE CAR DOWN BUT THAT JUST MADE A LOUD NOISE AND CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. I FINALLY HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, IT AGAIN TOOK OFF AND STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN.*AK
