2008 Nissan Altima Suspension Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the suspension system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Suspension reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Suspension and steering issues purchased many new tires throughout the yrs to find out it had suspension issues. There are 4 recalls listed on my insurance policy that describes exactly what's been wrong with my car since purchased. When calling nissan and checking your data base my vin # has never had any recalls for these issues but is obvious this make and model has been affected as well. Please look into this some more car is not safe and we were sold a lemon from day 1. Going back and forth to dealership lies and mechanics to find out it's always been a suspension issue I don't know the exact terms but suspension and some type of electric issue just as the recalls stated on my insurance policy description. Please advise or help Nissan make this right to keep our streets and cars safe while on the road. I need to gather all documents from places I've gone in for these very same issues of recalls shown. Financially this has been a burden investing in a used car to just have to fix right away with these same exact issues of recalls listed but to say our vehicle was not affected by those recalls is ridiculous it's obvious I been dealing with the same exact issues. Please help. Thank you for listening and hopefully you can help make a difference with this safety issue. I bought the car during covid year and been having issues since then but today's date on incident because I'm not sure of an exact date 4-5 yrs ago when issues started. Dealership lied to us I'm sure they were experiencing same issues with suspension that lead to issues with steering wheel control arms into motor mounts and tires getting bald fast and always having to change out front tires not straight or balanced out of control all the time.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while making a left turn into a parking at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side tire detached from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that each of the lug nuts had sheared off the wheel. The wheel was underneath the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to his home. The contact then called the manufacturer and was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V363000 (Suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. PURCHASED 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA ON MARCH 6, 2021 FROM THE CAR HOUSE IN BUTLER, NJ. SINCE THE MOMENT I DROVE OFF THE LOT, MULTIPLE LIGHTS TURNED ON WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE ALTERNATOR AND MULTIPLE 02 SENSORS. THE NEXT DAY I HAD A GARAGE DO AN INSPECTION AND IT TURNED OUT THE CAR NEEDED A REAR CONTROL ARM, SHOCKS, BRAKES AND ROTORS IN ADDITON TO THE LIGHTS. THE DEALER SAID THAT I HAD A 90 DAY WARRANTY BUT WHEN I CALLED THE COMPANY THEY HAD NO RECORD OF THE CONTRACT. THE DEALER FIXED THE SENSORS AND ALTERNATOR SUPPOSEDLY, BUT HAVEN'T CONTACTED ME BACK ABOUT FIXING THE OTHER ISSUES AND EVERY TIME I CALL THEY HANG UP.

MY SPRINGS ON BOTH REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER BROKE INTO PIECES AND POPPED MY TIRES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THERE WAS NO WARNING I JUST HAD BRAKES AND INSPECTION DONE A FEW MONTHS AGO, AND LAST WEEK WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY MY TIRE BASICALLY BLEW APART, WHEN EXAMINING WE NOTICED THE SPRINGS HAD BROKEN AND RUBBED AGAINST THE TIRES CAUSING THEM TO POP. IM LUCKY I SLOWED DOWN IN TIME WE COULD'VE HAD A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT AND IM SO UPSET ABOUT IT.

THE FOLLOWING HAD TO BE FIXED ALL ON ONE VISIT: MY ALTERNATOR REPLACED; TOP MOTOR MOUNT REPLACED, BRAKE SENSOR REPLACED, BATTERY REPLACED, AND HAD AN OIL COOLER LEAK FIXED. ALL WAS COVERED WITH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY ($858 OTHERWISE). IT HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 4 BATTERIES, 2 ALTERNATORS, 2 MANNA FOLDS (A RECALL), NEW SHOCKS AND STRUTS (I PAID FOR) AND MY TRANSMISSION WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES. (THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER RECALL TO THE FUEL TANK BUT CAN'T REMEMBER ANY SPECIFICS). I TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY CAR, HAVE IT MAINTAINED REGULARLY, AND ONLY USE QUALITY GAS. THIS IS MY FOURTH NISSAN AND I AM GREATLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY. I AM DEBATING AS TO WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD TRADE IT IN. *TR

I WENT TO HAVE MY FLUIDS CHANGED AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE REAR SWAY BAR ON MY CAR WAS SNAPPED. I CHECKED ONLINE AND IT LOOKS LIKE MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT IN THE PART THAT NISSAN SHOULD FIX. THIS SHOULD PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. THANK YOU *TR

I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SWAY BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS BROKEN. HE SAID THAT IT HAD TO HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR AWHILE BECAUSE THE ENDS WERE RUSTED AND THEY NORMALLY DO NOT CORRODE THAT QUICKLY. HE SAID THAT IT WAS A CLEAN BREAK. UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS NOT COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2007 MODEL. WELL, MINE WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2007. I AM A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER AND I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SO IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME WHY THE PART WOULD BREAK UNLESS IT WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR

THE LEFT REAR TORSION/ANT-ISWAY BAR SUSTAINED COMPLETE FRACTURE AT THE END. NOTHING HIT IT. IT APPEARED TO BE DUE TO CORROSION. IT WAS INSPECTED BY CONYERS NISSAN SERVICE AND THE ADVISOR AGREED THIS WAS PROBABLY DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR

I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM HANLESS HILLTOP NISSAN, RICHMOND, CA FOR MYSELF ON MARCH 30, 2008. I DROVE THE CAR ONE DAY AND RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER TO INQUIRE AS TO WHAT VEHICLE WAS GIVEN TO ME, BECAUSE IS WAS NOT THE VEHICLE THAT I TEST DROVE, I WAS TOLD BY MY SALE PERSON THAT IT WAS THE VEHICLE THAT WAS TEST DRIVEN. THE REASON I WENT BACK TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE VEHICLE WAS BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE CAR DROVE. BASICALLY, THE CAR DRIVES LIKE AN OLD BEAT UP 1955 VEHICLE. THE CARS STEERING IS ALL OVER THE ROAD, IT FEELS UNSAFE. THE CAR BOTTOMED OUT SEVERAL TIMES, EVEN AFTER I HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY ANOTHER NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT.. WELL, AFTER MY CONTINUED COMPLAINTS, HANLESS NISSAN FINALLY AGREED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, THE SUSPENSION HAD BASICALLY COME APART. THEY REPLACED TWO BOLTS AT THE DIRECTION OF NISSAN.. WELL, THIS DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE A DAY AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BOLTS, THE CAR BOTTOMED OUT AGAIN WHILE GOING OVER A SAFETY ROAD BUMP. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE HANLESS NISSAN, BUT THEY SAID, BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT RECREATE THE EXACT PROBLEM, NISSAN WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY, IF THEY WERE TO REPLACE THE SHOCK OR DO ANY OTHER WORK ON THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THEM FIRST AGREEING TO THE WORK ORDER. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE WAYNE NEVILLE AT 866.799.1690 EXT 1442 ALL THE WHILE, I WAS DISCUSSING THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I THOUGHT NISSAN HAD MY BEST INTEREST AT HEART, BUT NOW I SEE IT WAS ALL AN ACT, BECAUSE HE HAS NOT RETURNED ANY OF MY PHONE CALL ABOUT THE CONTINUED PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION OF MY VEHICLE.. I STRONGLY BELIEVE I SHOULD BE GIVEN ANOTHER CAR. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS SUSPENSION PROBLEM, THAT I BELIEVE ONE DAY WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CAN NOT BELIEVE NISSAN IS NOT CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE BUYERS. *TR

I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM BAKER-JACKSON NISSAN, HOUSTON, FOR MY DAUGHTER ON MAY 21. MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR ONE DAY AND RETURNED IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN HER CITY OF ARLINGTON, TEXAS. THIS DEALERSHIP, DON DAVIS NISSAN, INFORMED US THEY DON'T KNOW HOW WE WERE SOLD THIS CAR, BECAUSE THE REAR SUSPENSION HAD BASICALLY COME APART. THE STUDS HOLDING THE STRUTS WERE MISSING AND BROKEN OFF; ONE MISSING COMPLETELY AND THE OTHER SHEARED OFF. THEY INDICATED MY DAUGHTER WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE ARRIVED IN ARLINGTON SAFELY WITHOUT A MAJOR ACCIDENT OCCURRING. I HAVE ASKED NISSAN TO REPLACE THE CAR WITH AN EXACT MAKE/MODEL/STYLE, BUT TO DATE THEY HAVE NOT AND ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE PLANNING TO REPAIR THE CAR. THEY SENT A NISSAN ENGINEER OUT TO THE ARLINGTON DEALERSHIP TO REVIEW, AND HE INDICATED TO THE SERVICE SHOP PERSONNEL, THE STUDS WERE NOT TORQUED PROPERLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE PLACED A CLAIM WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, I HAVE TALKED TO BAKER-JACKSON NISSAN TO REPLACE THE CAR----TO DATE, I AM ONLY GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM BOTH. WE HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THE CAR 1 DAY AND HAVE BEEN INCONVENIENCED FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS NOW. I THINK NISSAN MAY BE TRYING TO COVER UP A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I'M READY TO GO PUBLIC WITH THIS AND AM CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTIONS. CAN SOMEONE FROM THIS OFFICE PLEASE CALL ME AND DISCUSS MY OPTIONS. I DON'T TRUST THIS CAR, EVEN IF IT IS REPAIRED---WHAT ELSE COULD BE WRONG WITH IT. WE ARE VERY DIS-SATISFIED, UNHAPPY AND FRUSTRATED CUSTOMERS. BAKER-JACKSON NISSAN, HOUSTON, IN MY OPINION DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE IN BUSINESS--IF THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT CUSTOMERS. NISSAN'S ATTEMPT TO COVER UP A DEFECT SHOULD BE REVEALED AS SUCH. I ONLY WANT TO REPLACE THE CAR AND MAKE SURE NISSAN FIXES THIS PROBLEM FOR OTHER CONSUMERS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. I UNDERSTAND, MANUFACTURERS MAKE MISTAKES, BUT THEY NEED TO DO THEIR DUE DILIGENCE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
