Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Date of Incident: [XXX] On [XXX], my sister and I traveled from Maryland to Newport News, Virginia, to celebrate with family. Upon returning home to Maryland, my sister attempted to fasten her front passenger seat belt but was unable to do so. I went around to the passenger side of the vehicle to assist her, but I was also unable to properly secure the seat belt. Because I have a strict safety rule requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts, I instructed my sister to move to the back seat so that she could travel safely. The following day, I took my vehicle to Auto Obsessions, located at 20 Southway, Greenbelt, MD 20770, for an inspection. After inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic informed me that the passenger-side seat belt was locked in place as though the vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision. I was advised that the seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The mechanic sent a link to my phone so that I could order the replacement part through eBay. I subsequently ordered the part. Once it was delivered, I planned to schedule an appointment with the mechanic to have the replacement installed. While investigating the problem, I learned that certain Nissan Rogue models from multiple model years have been subject to safety recalls involving the Occupant Classification System (OCS) and airbag control units, including issues that can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. Because of the seriousness of the safety issue I was experiencing, I contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236. I spoke with a NHTSA representative and explained what had occurred. I provided my vehicle identification number (VIN). The representative informed me that, although there was a recall involving my vehicle's year and model, my particular VIN was not included in the recall. I was advised to contact Nissan directly and ask whether Nissan would provide a "goodwill" assistance offer: INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FO

It started when I purchased it in February 2025 Mileage was 99200 I noticed the seatbelt warning signs didn’t ding if I didn’t have my seatbelt on. And the sunroof not only was leaking but it is coming apart where it is held in place I’m afraid it will suddenly come down and strike me without notice while driving. Theee days ago I noticed the airbag light came on while I had the driver assist engaged so I stopped and turned the driver assistance light on and then off which caused the airbag light to turn off . But today with 1100 miles on the vehicle I was driving and the light. Came on as I was driving again. I tried turning off the drivers assistance button but the light stays on!!! I’m concerned about the safety while driving with the airbag light, the seatbelt not signaling when the seatbelt is not on it ding to remind me that someone doesn’t have their seat belt on. At lastly , I believe that I am going to be injured by the sunroof motor fulling down while I am driving causing a car wreck and or injuring me or a passenger. The OCS system in the 2015 model needs to be fixed before serious injury occurs.

The airbag sensor warning light remains constantly on once the car has been started. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection. I have taken it to the local dealership for repair and after 2 different visits have told me that they don't know exactly what is wrong and that I need to come back and pay another $1600 after the original $600 I already spent to have 2 different parts replaced and they will next replace two others and hope it solves the problem. I do not know if my car is safe and if my airbags will deploy when appropriate and not when it is not appropriate. The main problem is that they don't know why the sensor is constantly on and just keep "Trying" to replace things and hope it is fixed. I do not feel comfortable with hoping they are right when they can't tell me what is wrong. There has been no issues yet but not having your airbag sensor work properly is a significant problem. No police or other agency has looked at the car only the local dealership. I have contacted Nissan but they have not given me any answers except that they have noted my concerns and within my case. They need to be able to tell me if my vehicle is 100% safe to drive. If they can accurately diagnosis the cause, I don't feel they can assure me that everything is okay and safe. My second visit there (6/24/2024) They have replaced the drivers door satelite sensor and found DTC to still be present and will not clear. Now they recommend replacing drivers door harness and airbag control unit. The first visit (5/18/2024) they stated they found DTC 80093 for left hand sensor . they removed the left hand lower b-pillar cover to inspect sensor and wiring was in good condition. Per esm 1st tep is replacing the left had satelite sensor. It has been a month and I still don't know if my car is safe to drive and that the airbags will work, other than the dealership saying it will likely work. But come back and spend $1600 more and hopefully it will work.

I have 2015 Nissan Rouge Select for almost 9 year and I haven’t get in any accident with this car . But my air bag light keep turn off twice within a year . Last year it happened on driver side , I replaced it at dealership and the same issue happened just 10 months later . The passenger air bag is off this time . But the dealership said the reason that I can’t accept it. First the mechanic guy told me that the car is old and the way how we drive with the shaking on the road affect airbag wire and sensor . That’s unacceptable because we have an older car than this 2015 Nissan but it never have air bag problem . While we talk with their supervisor to see if there is any recall we miss and what cause the airbag keep going off , he said one thing made me could not believe that the manufacturer would not test the air bag before selling . Is it mean that i bought this Nissan car and I put my self and my family safety under risk while we are on the road ? …...and recently the car transmission failed….

Airbag warning light suddenly started flashing(on/off) constantly, regardless if anyone or any item is in passenger seat. After attempting to reset to no avail, taken to dealer for inspection. Dealer listed code b00a0-02(Occupant Sensor). Dealer stated only fix is to replace entire seat frame as the sensor is built into seat frame. Dealer stated failure to replace can cause airbag to activate inadvertently, or not activate when in a crash. The vehicle has never been involved in a crash.

I was traveling east bound and trash collection truck was parked on the shoulder facing east. I could not see the truck because of the position of the sun, and when I did see the parked trash truck, I swerved to miss it but struck the left rear of the parked trash truck with the right front of my vehicle going 35mph. Air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. I was tranferred to the hospital and sustained 4 broken ribs and an abrasion on my right elbow. Police department and EMS did see that air bags did not deploy. Police report shows code for the air bag and seat belt malfunctions. No warning messages etc of any kind showed up.

There is a recall for the airbag light coming on the dashboard. Took the car to the dealership to get the car looked at, was informed their is a recall for the airbag light. Was told it was fixed, a week later the light came back on. Went back to dealership, this time they said it would need a new driver side seat and electrical panel replaced to be repaired correctly and to know 100 % the driver side airbag works correctly. Nissan won't cover it because those aren't the current parts to fix it. I don't understand, the dealership tried twice to fix the problem with the standard parts that are allotted in the recall and it didn't work, now it needs to be fixed properly. I have a Nissan with a safety recall issue that Nissan refuses to cover the cost to fix it. It is very unsafe, dangerous and life threatening to have a vehicle with no working driver side airbag. We bought this car for our 16 year old son, only to have a severe safety violation in the car that won't get fix properly by the manufacturer. What if he is in a front on collision and the airbag doesn't work? Heaven forbid he get critically injured or even die from it. What does it take for Nissan to do the right thing and properly fix the recall. In the meantime our son isn't allowed to drive his new car much and not far from the house. How would they feel if it were their teenager in a car with no driver side airbag and the company with a recall refused to fix it correctly. I guess our son's life doesn't matter to anyone but us. All we want is for the recall to be fixed correctly ( which we knew nothing about) which is correctly working airbags. How would you feel? Hello, I bought my Nissan Rogue in 2015 and I’m the original owner. I had parked my car at Lowe’s and upon returning from store, my dashboard showed the Air bag alert sign that didn’t go away and remains turned ON my driver-side dashboard. I wasn’t in an accident or didn’t have other issues, and car was simply just parked when alert popped up and remained ON. VIN# [XXX] . Nissan dealership staff charges for such repairs but I feel this should be covered under warranty as it’s a major safety issue. Can your team please help me. Thank you. The occupant t sensor (OCS) is faulty, and keeps flashing nonstop for months. My passengers are unsafe. The dealer confirms the problem wants to charge $1,500, but I see it is a recurring problem. However, even though my vehicle is within the range of vehicles recalled (Rogue 2014 through 2017), my vin # is not showing a recall, and I would like to know why it was not included - as it should be. Please be advised that it might have to do with the model designation as "Rogue Select" instead of "Rogue". The Rogue Select is essentially the same vehicle as the 2014 Rogue , they just renamed it adding "Select" when they introduced the new design in 2015 because they could not have two vehicles with the same name. Please investigate.
