What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 Nissan Sentra, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I have '01 Nissan Sentra. Over the years I kept having my car auto shut off while driving. My recent incident occurs on 2/17/22 while driving on a freeway at 70mph that left me stranded. I had it towed to the nearest auto mechanics. While the engines shuts down, the Service Engine Soon light came on followed by the Battery Icon and Oil Lamp Icon. In the past I had most if not all my catalytic converters and O2 sensors replaced but the problem persisted. Some mechanics stated it was electrical but offered no solution. I did had an oil changed and battery tested a week earlier but no issue was found. My most recent mechanic checked it out and told me it's not the battery nor the alternator, they're both still good. I had to leave my car over the weekends for a full diagnostic.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.

NEW MICHELIN HARMONY TIRES INSTALLED 1/07 BY REPUTABLE DEALER; TIRES REGULARLY CHECKED/ROTATED BY DEALER. DRIVING FINE, WAS PARKED, CAME OUT TO LEAVE AND CAR SOUNDED FUNNY...PULLED OVER ON SAME PARKING LOT AND DISCOVERED FLAT TIRE. TIRE DEALER REPORTS "BAD VALVE...THERE IS A SILENT RECALL". OTHER DEALER WHO INSTALLED THE TIRES FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE; HE'D NOT HEARD ABOUT IT...TOOK BAD TIRE OUT TO HIM, AND ALSO FOUND RECALL INFO ON LINE BY GOOGLING "TIRE VALVE RECALL". THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS SIDEWALL DAMAGE AND TIRE SHOULD BE REPLACED FOR SAFETY REASONS. ROAD HAZARD GUARANTEE NOT APPLICABLE DUE TO DETERMINATION THAT "TIRE WAS RUN FLAT". ONLY WAS DRIVEN ON PARKING LOT A ABOUT 100 YARDS AT MOST. INFO ON NET INDICATES TIRES COULD LOSE PRESSURE RAPIDLY AND IT WOULD NOT BE VISUALLY EVIDENT; DRIVING ON LOW PRESSURE WOULD CAUSE SUCH DAMAGE AS I HAD. NEVER WAS NOTIFIED BY TIRE RETAILER; DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS. HAD TO REPLACE TIRE AND ENDURE MUCH LOST TIME AND INCONVENIENCE AS WELL AS EXPENSE. SAW THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM PER ARTICLES ON CONSUMER REPORTS BLOG. ALSO PURCHASED NEW VALVES AND HAD THEM ALL REPLACES ON MY CAR...NAPA STORE SELLS SHRADER WHICH HAD BEEN MADE IN US UNTIL ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO I LEARNED. *TR

WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON PA ST RD 31, AT 45MPH, AROUND 6PM, NOVEMBER 10. 2014, A 2006 CHEVY MALIBU DARTED OUT FROM A SIDE STREET WITHOUT YIELDING IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. AS THE OTHER VEHICLE WHEN DARTING OUT FROM INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF MINE, THEREFORE WAS UNABLE TO STOP TO PREVENT CRASH. SWERVED RIGHT TO TRY TO AVOID COLLISION BUT WAS UNABLE TO AVOID CONTACT. CONTACT WAS MADE FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE, AS WELL AS THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED. THERE WAS NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH, THERE WAS A NOISE FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND VIBRATION WAS FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. A NHTSA RECALL # 01V174000 WAS FOUND ON THE MANUFACTURER'S WEBSITE, FOR THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER ARM. THE VIN # FELL WITHIN THE VIN NUMBERS FOR THE RECALL, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THE CONTACT OF THE RECALL REPAIR, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL.

THIS COMPLAINT HAS TO DO WITH THE FAILURE OF THE OIL STICK FOR THE 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN FOUR YEARS AND HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT OIL STICKS BREAK IN THAT TIME. THE FIRST TIME THE OIL STICK WAS BROKEN IT WAS EASILY REMOVED FROM THE STEM IT RESTS IN. ON THE LATEST BREAK IT HAS BECOME LODGED INSIDE THE STEM. FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER THE STANDARD FEE MOST MECHANICS AND DEALERSHIPS RANGE FROM $120.00 TO $300.00 FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE OIL STICK. THE PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE STICK IS THAT IT HAS A COMPLETELY PLASTIC HANDLE THAT EXTENDS FOR A WAYS BEFORE JOINING WITH THE METAL STICK. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE STICK BREAKS WELL ABOVE WHERE IT JOINS WITH THE METAL COMPONENT THEREFORE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE WITH A MAGNET. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED NUMEROUS TIMES ONLINE AND I SEE IT AS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN CONTINUES TO SELL THIS OIL STICK. FROM ONE ONLINE FORUM ALONE I CAME ACROSS OVER 60 REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING WITH A NISSAN OIL STICK AND ALMOST ALL OF THEM REFERRED TO EITHER A 2000 OR 2001 SENTRA. *TR
MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA GXE OIL DIP STICK BROKE WHEN I WAS PULLING IT OUT TO CHECK MY OIL LEVEL. I DID A SEARCH ONLINE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM

HELLO, I OWN A 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 3.5 YEARS AND DURING THAT TIME IT'S HAD AT LEAST 4-5 RECALLS. MOST RECENTLY I TOOK IT IN FOR THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE CASE HOLDER RECALL IN EARLY MARCH. THIS RECALL WAS TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER, I WAS ON THE ROAD SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I THOUGH THAT MAYBE I HAD IT IN GEAR AND I JUST RELEASED THE CLUTCH ON ACCIDENT, BUT IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON THAT TRIP. NOW I CONSTANSTLY HAVE THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN ON ME WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN SITTING IN IDLE. IT HAS HAPPENED DURING TURNS IN WHICH IT MADE IT VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AS THE POWER STEERING IS CUT OFF. I DID TAKE THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A BAD AIR FLOW METER. I DECLINED TO HAVE IT FIXED AS I THOUGHT THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I EVEN WROTE A LETTER TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, AND REQUESTED THEY FIX MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER THEY DECLINED. *AK

I HAVE HAD MY 2001 NISSAN SENTRA A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS AND WE HAVE HAD MANY RECALLS AND THE LAST ONE ON APRIL 13, 2004 THE DEALER LEFT A PIECE OF FOAM INSULATION AND MY AIR CONDITIONER ( DOES NOT WORK) AND HEATER WORKS NOW SINCE REMOVED THE INSULATION AWAY FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY WERE NASTY WITH ME WHEN I BROUGHT UP THAT THIS SHOULD OF BEEN COVERED UNDER BULLETIN # NTB00091 AND NTB00091B. IF THERE WAS A FAULTY AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM WHEN THE CAR FIRST CAME OUT THEN SOMEONE SHOULD OF BEEN TOLD. I AM VERY UPSET THAT THIS WAS NOT TOLD TO ME WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. *AK
