What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 RAM 2500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Transmission stopped working temporarily after towing a trailer up a long hill, engine simply revved when i tried to accelerate at the very top just prior to descending the other side, after stopping for 3-4 minutes the transmission began to work again. Truck is available for inspection and has not been inspected by anyone The truck is equipped with both engine and exhaust braking and had the failure occurred going downhill with a trailer in tow then it would have created a safety issue. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to or after the incident to indicate there was any issues.
Complete engine failure at about 175000 miles, also transmission failure at about 125000 miles
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle was initially repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering) at a local dealer; however, after the recall repair was performed, the vehicle was unable to receive a front alignment. The contact requested that the welds be removed to perform the alignment; however, several dealers and independent mechanics refused to remove the welds. The dealer had spoken with the manufacturer, but neither had offered any assistance. The Mopar manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and the contact was given a case number. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000. The VIN was not available.
While driving down highway 65 mph, abs system activated causing right rear brakes to activate causing vehicle to activate steering control making truck head towards on coming traffic before able to control vehicle to shoulder of roadway. Would like to know if, when, and who and where any previous recall work has been performed to this vehicle, bought at a dealership in Oklahoma with check engine light on, told it was gas cap. Turns out it was not a gas cap, there was programming involved to remove the MIL function of brake system. ECM was sent to a 3rd party vendor and unlocked, afterwards the previous program was unlocked showing disabling of MIL functions for several functions. Vehicle is having issues with electrical radiator fan causing excessive heat in compartment, what was the fix for this by MFG? Was it to just program out the electric fan from coming on at high speed ? Now engine within 20 minutes of idling overheats truck( road construction/wrecks)
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
On two separate occasions, once in 2025 and again in July 2026, while pulling a travel trailer an emissions control fault in the EGR system caused the Cummins turbo diesel engine in the truck to lose power. At this reduced power, highway speeds could not be maintained, and even small hills were difficult to climb. This is a significant safety problem, and the dealerships could not provide a timely repair due to lack of parts availability. The manufacturer of software in the engine control system does not allow the use of aftermarket parts. This is monopolistic and anti-competitive. An emissions control fault Code should not deprive me of the use of my vehicle.
Mopar has discontinued parts for many Ram vehicles with a 6.4L Hemi motor including the exhaust manifolds. My exhaust manifold is currently cracked and has an audible leak. Exhaust enters the cab of the vehicle when starting, idling, or reversing. They have no indication of providing a fix for this and the parts are not available aftermarket either. This broken piece not only affects the performance and safety but renders my truck unusable per DOT guidelines and would be red flagged during a roadside DOT check. In my area I know of three other trucks with the same issue. I have tried to reach out to the manufacturer with no response and all the dealers I have tried to reach do not have a solution. This problem can affect trucks as new as 2019 and old as 2011.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Airbag light triggered and message center says service airbags system. Horn does not work and all steering wheel controls do not work. Traced to bad clock spring in steering wheel. Will not pass inspection. Self diagnosed. Warning light always on and message center says service airbags on every start up. Possible severe injury during a front end collision..

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.

MANUFACTURER VIOLATION OF FEDERAL TREAD ACT REIMBURSEMENT REQUIREMENTS Vehicle experienced ABS hydraulic control unit failure in September 2022 with warning lights and transmission shifting problems. Repairs cost $5651 addressing brake system hydraulic control unit defects. In November 2024, manufacturer issued Recall C7B/NHTSA 24E-100 for identical hydraulic control unit ABS defects affecting 2012-2018 Ram vehicles. Federal regulation 49 CFR 573.13 requires manufacturers reimburse pre-notification repairs reasonably necessary to correct recalled defects. Manufacturer FCA US LLC improperly denied reimbursement under case 92237530, claiming parts not covered under recall repair. This violates federal TREAD Act mandatory reimbursement requirements. Manufacturer referenced wrong recall campaigns in denial letters, demonstrating failure to properly evaluate claim under applicable federal regulations. Request NHTSA enforcement action to compel manufacturer compliance with federal reimbursement obligations. Manufacturer operates established reimbursement system but improperly applies federal requirements. Safety defect was present in 2022 and subsequently recalled, establishing federal obligation for pre-recall repair reimbursement. Wilson v FCA class action settlement demonstrates manufacturer previously paid identical hydraulic control unit replacement costs for same defect type.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
ABS speed sensor on. Replaced and it remains on. It causes my cruise control, traction control and most importantly 4WD to stop working. This happened right in the middle of a week where we had lots of snow and ice and freezing temperatures. I got lucky and discovered that the ABS light causes the four-wheel-drive to not work before I manage to take a bad road that I had been planning to take. Meanwhile because of work I haven't had time to fix it till recently so all this time I have not had four-wheel-drive very bad weather. A very stupid fail safe feature, disabling 4WD over a speed sensor.
10 months ago engine would die 1x/months Then 2x/months Then Weekly Titusville FL dealer changed ignition and wire harness, $865 & no change. 1x/months is now every mile. In Texas. This is dealer ripped me off.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
The high pressure fuel pump is disintegrating. It has been recalled in newer dodge rams But has not been recalled 4 2015 even though it is very similar and made of the same material. This has been confirmed with the dodge dealership as this is where it sits, so it is available upon request. We had a check engine light come on prior to the incident but was never Indicated when checked at the shop that this was the problem. As far as safety goes you never know when it is going to act up. It usually doesn't have power from the get go or loses power while driving, Putting people's safety at risk as it will slow down to almost stopping or not go at all. It also continually blows black smoke. It has been inspected by the dealership. It has been inspected by an insurance adjuster all confirmed the hype. High pressure fuel pump is the problem and there is shrapnel throughout the entire fuel system.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 2500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V021000 (STEERING) AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT CARL HOGAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (2335 US-45, COLUMBUS, MS 39705). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE WELDING OF THE NUT TO THE ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE WHICH CAUSED THE FRONT END TO BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PUMP WAS NOT REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEXT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF DUE TO THE WELDING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN ALIGNMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ACKNOWLEDGED KNOWING OF SIMILAR FAILURES AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.
Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 2500 equipped with Cooper Tires, Tire Line: Discover AT3, Tire Size: 285/75/R17, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact became aware that the sidewalls on all four tires were cracked. The vehicle was taken to a tire center, and the contact was informed that the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The tire mileage was 36,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 126,000
Both front tires separated near the rim lt275/70r18
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
Possible severe injury during a front end collision..
side impact collision and the side airbags did not deploy. i had a broken hand from the impact of hitting the door/window due to the force of the impact. The other drive ran a stop sign and hit me at approximately 45-50 MPH. Uploaded pictures show the damage to my truck, with the majority of the damage being the suspension/axle components. The point of impact on my vehicle was the driver's side front wheel.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
At 40/50 mph if you hit a bump the front end shakes violently and is hard to control the vehicle
FIRESTONE TIRES WITH ONLY LESS THAN 16000 MILES WORE OUT WHICH COULD CAUSE A WRECK IF I HAVE TO DRIVE VEHICLE IN BAD WEATHER OR RAIN. WE NOTICED AND EVEN SPOKE TO OUR DEALER AND MOPAR AND NOTHING WAS DONE. YOU BUY A NEW TRUCK AND PAY OVER 50,000 FOR IT YOU THINK THE TIRE WOULD LAST AT LEAST 3 TO 6 YRS OR AT LEAST 30,000 TO 60,000 MILES ANYWAY.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
At 40/50 mph if you hit a bump the front end shakes violently and is hard to control the vehicle
TRANSMISSION NEVER SHIFTED CORRECTLY FROM THE FIRST DAY I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW. DRAG LINK FEEL APART WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION HAS HAD A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED BUT STILL NEVER SOLVED ALL THE PROBLEMS. NOW THE "F"[XXX] SOLENOID NEEDS REPLACEMENT SHIFTING INTO 4TH GEAR WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. THIS HAPPENS VARIOUS TIMES. JUST AT THE HIGHER SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
Where the traction bar mount is welded to the frame sheered off the frame while driving on the freeway causing me to lose steering control. Was not in an accident but I found that recall Safety Recall R46 / NHTSA 15V-541 for the two previous years was an issue. I have photos of the damaged traction control mount and will show where the separation was the same as the recall on 2013 and 2014 Rams.
While my truck was parked and running (auto-started: FACTORY auto start), truck spontaneously burst into flames and burnt down before fire dept could get to it and put it out. TOTAL LOSS. Of note: fire dept was about 100yds away and responded as soon as we saw flames.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The first time I started to have issue was rear ABS sensor started going in and out got repaired and they said the wires going down the frame rail are getting pinched by the fuel tank in the frame rail then my backup camera went and same issue I was told by dealer and now my drivers side rear blinker is doing the same where starting to not work and from what I found the wires are being broke between fuel tank and frame rail from the factory they way the run the harness
AUTO LIGHTS SPORADICALLY WON'T TURN ON. HEATER CORE WENT OUT, JUST BLOWING COLD AIR.

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 MPH and hauling a trailer, the tailgate inadvertently lowered without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V486000 (Structure, Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall however, the failure occurred. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE CONTACT HEARD A BANG SOUND. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THAT THE TAILGATE FELL DOWN AND STRUCK THE TRAILER JACK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TAILGATE OPENED AT LEAST TEN TIMES SINCE OCTOBER OF 2018. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEN STOLER CHRYSLER/DODGE/RAM (1001 BALTIMORE BLVD, WESTMINSTER, MD 21157) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TAILGATE WAS FINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

RECALL COMPLAINT. SCHEDULED AN APT WITH DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS TWO RECALLS (17V-302, 17V-821). PARTS ARE EITHER NOT AVAILABLE OR THERE IS NOT A REMEDY. I AM SUPPOSED TO JUST KEEP CHECKING WITH THE STEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHEN THESES SAFETY ISSUES CAN BE ADDRESSED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 2500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING DID NOT RESPOND EVEN WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS MOVED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DROVE INTO A DITCH. THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO TIGHTEN AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WAS ONE INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SPORT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP (200 ECHESTNUT ST, FT BRAGG, CA), BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000. SEE ALSO ODI 11083519. *DSY

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET. IN PARK, MOTOR NOT RUNNING, KEYS NOT IN THE IGNITION. VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE NEARLY BREAKING IT IN TWO. THERE WAS A RECALL PERFORMED IN 2019 TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. A GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT THE RECALL DID NOT CORRECT ALL THE ISSUES. I CONTACTED FCA, THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT, I WAS TOLD BY THE INSPECTOR([XXX]) VIA PHONE THAT THE TRUCK WAS A ABLE TO BE SHIFTED FROM PARK WITH THE KEYS NOT IN THE IGNITION AND WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE. IT FAILED 2 OUT OF THE 15 OR 20 TIMES THAT HE TRIED. I WAS LATER CONTACTED BY FCA SAYING THERE WAS NO FAULT ON THE MANUFACTURER. THEY MADE NO OFFER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE EVEN AFTER THE INSPECTORS REPORT. THE INSPECTOR TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD NOT PUT HIS FINDINGS IN WRITING TO ME AND THAT I WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A COPY OF THE REPORT. HE DID SAY THAT IF HE WAS UNDER OATH HE WOULD TELL A JUDGE AND JURY WHAT HE STATED TO ME. THESE TRUCKS ARE NOT SAFE. THESE BUSINESS PRACTICES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
