Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Suzuki DL650A, DL650XA, GSX-R1000, GSX-R1000R, and 2018 GSX-S750 motorcycles. During installation, the fuel pump O-ring may have been twisted, reducing the sealing performance and possibly resulting in a fuel leak.
The risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump O-ring and the fuel tank inner vessel, free of charge. The recall began October 31, 2018. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 2A86-2A88.

The defect: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2017-2018 GSX-R1000, GSX-R1000A, GSX-R1000RA, and GSX-R1000RZA motorcycles. When upshifting between first and second gear, if the rider fails to engage second gear, a neutral condition will exist and may cause very high engine RPM. If the rider then shifts into second gear without disengaging the clutch, the motorcycle’s chain may stretch or break.
The risk: If the drive chain breaks, the motorcycle will lose power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Engine Control Module (ECM), and inspect and replace the drive chain and sprockets, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 25, 2018. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-572-1490. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 2A76 to 2A81.

IT APPEARS THERE ARE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ALREADY BUT THIS FIRST PART FOR THE BRAKES/STABILITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AREN'T CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL BUT INSTEAD THEY PUT IT AS A CUSTOMER CAMPAIGN. I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AT AN INTERSECTION, THEN THE BACK TIRE LOCKED UP UNDER BRAKING CAUSING THE REAR OF THE BIKE TO START SLIDING OUT WHICH ULTIMATELY MADE THE BIKE HIGH SIDE IN THE CORNER. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE A ISSUE WITH A LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE APON STARTING THE MOTORCYCLE, WHICH DISABLES THE ABS/STABILITY MANAGEMENT. I ENDED UP BREAKING MY ANKLE IN 3 SPOTS, TORN TENDONS, AND HAVE NERVE DAMAGE, THE DOCTOR SAID MY BOOT WAS THE ONLY THING KEEPING MY FOOT FROM BEING TORN OFF. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED PRIOR TO ANY KNOWN INFORMATION TO ME ABOUT A PROBLEM IN SEPTEMBER 2019. THE NEXT ISSUE HAS ALSO BEEN DOCUMENTED BUT AGAIN NO INFORMATION WAS GIVEN TO ME ABOUT IT AT ALL, I FOUND ALL THIS INFO OUT AFTER THE ACCIDENT. IN JANUARY 2020 GOT A CUSTOMER CAMPAIGN LETTER REGARDING THE ABS WHICH I STARTED LOOKING INTO AND FOUND OUT THESE ARE KNOWN PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP (BOB LANDPHERE MOTORCYCLE) LOCATED IN TIGARD OREGON CLAIMS TO HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE OF A MISS SHIFT/ FALSE GEAR SELECTION. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND WHICH WILL CREATE AN OVER REV SITUATION BECAUSE IT GOES INTO NEUTRAL INSTEAD OF 2ND GEAR WHICH IS DANGEROUS BY ITS SELF BUT IT GETS WORSE, WHEN THEN TRYING TO SELECT 2ND GEAR THE MOTORCYCLE CAN STRETCH/ AND SNAP THE CHAIN WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. MY BIKE HAS THIS ISSUE BUT AFTER LOOKING INTO IT, THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED TO FIX THAT BEFORE I PURCHASED THE MOTORCYCLE & SUZUKI CLAIMS MY BIKE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OUT OF POCKET SINCE ITS "ALREADY" BEEN REPLACED, MY CHAIN IS VERY STRETCHED AND I COULD ONLY IMAGINE ITS NEARING ITS STRETCH LIMIT AND WILL SNAP.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
