FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP ON 2006 GSXR 1000, CAUSING FRONT END OF MOTORCYCLE TO SLIDE OUT. FRONT BRAKE PISTONS AND PADS DID NOT RETRACT AS SUPPOSED TO PRIOR TO CRASH, CAUSING MORE DRAG AND HEAT BUILD UP. WITH MORE HEAT BUILT UP, THE BRAKE FLUID AND ANY TRAPPED AIR, EXPANDED AND CAUSED THE CALIPER PISTONS AND PADS TO ENGAGE THE ROTOR SUDDENLY AND CAUSED BRAKE LOCK UP. RIDER WAS EJECTED FROM THE MOTORCYCLE AT AROUND 30 MPH AND ROLLED FOR AROUND 50 FEET. BIKE SLID ON ITS SIDE AND HAD EXTENSIVE BODY AND CONTROLS DAMAGE. RIDER WAS TAKEN TO ER AND UNDERWENT SEVERAL HOURS OF TESTS, XRAYS, CTSCANS, ETC. RIDER SUFFERED DEEPLY BRUISED/HAIR-LINE CRACKED RIBS AND SEVERE ROAD RASH ON KNEES. RIDER WAS WEARING ALL APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE RIDING GEAR INCLUDING FULL FACE HELMET, RIDING BOOTS, RIDING JACKET, GLOVES, AND JEANS. *TR

I HAVE AN 06 GSXR 1000. MY BIKE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE 07 RECALL WHICH IS: "DUE TO IMPROPER SHAPE OF THE INTERNAL MECHANISM THAT MOVES THE ISC VALVE, THE VALVE MAY REMAIN IN THE OPEN POSITION INSTEAD OF MOVING TO THE CORRECT START-UP POSITION. THIS CAN RESULT IN NO-LOAD ENGINE IDLE SPEEDS AS HIGH AS 5000 RPM THE NEXT TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IF THE RIDER CHOOSES TO OPERATE THE MOTORCYCLE IN THIS CONDITION, THE RIDER MAY HAVE DIFFICULTY OPERATING THE MOTORCYCLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH." I CALLED SUZUKI TO TRY AND SEE IF I COULD QUALIFY FOR THE 07 RECALL, BUT THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR ME. THIS BIKE IS 5 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 20K, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE TYPES OF ISSUES. IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS AND ITS ALREADY BEEN PROVEN THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IN THIS LINE OF BIKES. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM SUZUKI MOTORS ABOUT MY 06 GSXR 1000. THE RECALL IS FOR THE FRAME CRACKING UNDER STRESS. I TOOK THE FRAME TO A LOCAL SUZUKI DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE FRAME HAD A HAIRLINE CRACK IN IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THE FRAME WAS ON THE RECALL LIST AND THAT IT MOST LIKELY SHOULD BE REPLACED. HE SENT PHOTOS OF THE FRAME TO SUZUKI MOTORS ALMOST A MONTH AND A HALF AGO. THREE WEEKS INTO THE PROCESS THEY HAD A SERVICE REP FROM THE DEALER COME TO MY HOUSE AND TOOK PICS OF THE OTHER PARTS OF MY MOTORCYCLE. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS ALL SUZUKI NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS. THEN ANOTHER WEEK WENT PAST AND I STILL GOT NO RESPONSE BACK FROM THE DEALER SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER GAVE ME A CHECK LIST SUZUKI HAD EMAILED HIM AND TOLD ME THEY NEEDED MORE DETAILED PICS. I WENT DOWN THE CHECK LIST AND TOOK ALL THE PICS THEY REQUESTED. ITS NOW TWO WEEKS LATER AND STILL NO ANSWER FROM SUZUKI MOTORS. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HE SHOULD BE GETTING AND ANSWER FROM SUZUKI BY THIS WEEK. I DON'T THINK SUZUKI HAS RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER AND I AM VERY FRUSTRATED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUZUKI GSX-R1000. WHILE RIDING OVER A BUMP AT 95 MPH, THE MAIN FRAME UNDERNEATH THE FUEL TANK SNAPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO DRIVER ERROR AND NOT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CONTACT, HOWEVER, BELIEVES IT WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,000.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
