The defect: Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Hurricane and Windsport recreational vehicles. The driver and front passenger overhead cabinets may detach.
The risk: Overhead cabinets that detach while the vehicle is in motion can fall onto seat occupants, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The remedy: Dealers will inspect and reinstall the overhead cabinets, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 15, 2023. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000290.

The defect: Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Hurricane and Windsport motorhomes. The overhead cabinets located above the driver and front passenger seats may detach and fall onto the seat occupants, possibly causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The risk: A loss of vehicle control can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: TMC will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the overhead cabinets, and reinstall them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 29, 2021. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000208.

The defect: Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

The defect: Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018 Ace, Axis, Hurricane, Windsport, and Vegas motorhomes. The wiring for the trailer lights may have been inserted into the wrong locations of the trailer lighting socket causing the trailer lights to not function properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk: If the trailer lights do not function as intended, it can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Thor has notified owners and dealers will re-wire a new connector, free of charge. The recall began on November 21, 2017. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020. TMC's number for this recall is RC000148.

The defect: Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Challenger, Axis, Chateau, Four Winds, Hurricane, Miramar, Palazzo, Tuscany, Vegas, Venetian, and Windsport motorhomes. The cargo carrying capacity (CCC) label on these vehicles may indicate an incorrect water capacity for the water heater/fresh water tank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Tires and Rims for Motor vehicles over 10,000lbs."
The risk: If the water capacity information is incorrect and it causes the vehicle to be over loaded, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
The remedy: TMC will notify owners and send them corrected labels, free of charge. The recall began on November 15, 2017. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020. TMC's number for this recall is RC000147.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Trailer Hitch Receiver Structure May Crack and Separate

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation, PE24023, on August 14, 2024, to investigate allegations of Thor Motor Coach motorhome frame or trailer hitch structure cracking and separating. The hitch was manufactured by Lippert and installed by Thor as standard original equipment. ODI received eight Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) describing the hitch structure cracking. If not caught in time, a cracked hitch can fully fracture and separate from the vehicle. ODI sent information requests to Thor and Lippert on September 6, 2024 and September 27, 2024, respectively. Thor's full response was received October 31, 2024, and Lippert's full response was received December 6, 2024. ODI reviewed the responses and learned of improvements introduced to increase the overall strength of the system. The manufacturers reported 32 total incidents, and ODI is aware of 37 non-duplicative subject vehicle incidents in total, including four crash incidents where the towed vehicle separated and struck a roadside feature. The overall failure rate for all subject vehicles is low, and ODI isnot aware of any failures on vehicles produced in the last 30 months. Although a defect has not been identified, the manufacturers understand the seriousness of a potential hitch receiver structure failure. As a result, Thor, supported by Lippert, is conducting a customer satisfaction campaign that instructs consumers to inspect their hitch structure and informs what to look for and what to do if issues are found. If consumers areuncomfortable performing this inspection, Thor dealers can inspect the trailer hitch for them. The inspection and repair will be done at no expense to the consumer. ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) with this manufacturer action. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
